Driver Activation/Deactivation
J1939 Multiplexing is Cummins INSITE™ service tool activated and will allow for switches and sensor to be multiplexed.
Once setup properly the ECM will receive switch status and sensor values from the datalink and not from discrete wires.
Interaction with other Features and Parameters
The J1939 Multiplexing feature only enables and prepares the ECM to receive the switch status and sensor values from the datalink. The feature that actually uses that switch or sensor must still be enabled. For example: The Cruise Control switches can be setup in the J1939 Multiplexing feature to be multiplexed, but the Cruise Control feature must be enabled for the switches to function properly.

Make sure that the associated features are enabled and setup properly before adjusting anything in J1939 Multiplexing feature.

A switch or sensor is hard-wired directly into the vehicle electronic control unit. The vehicle electronic control unit then sends out, across the datalink, messages that contain information regarding the status or value of the switch or sensor.
The ECM will receive the messages through the datalink and react appropriately.
