Notes
When creating appliqués in BERNINA Quilter, you are designing appliqué patterns for stitching by hand or by sewing machine, not in an embroidery hoop on the embroidery machine. If you wish to add embroidered appliqués to your quilt top, digitize them in Designer Plus and use Embroidery Window to insert the appliqué file.
Creating Appliqués
Open the BERNINA Quilter program. Select Layout. Select rectangular format, one block across and one block down, 10” square. Add a 2”
mitered border. Press OK. Select Show All.
Open the Fabric Library. Select a fabric for the block and fill the block.
This will be the base/background fabric for the appliqué.
Select the Load Picture icon from the Edit toolbar. Select Samples 1>Heartpin3.bmp. Open.
Left click on a corner control point; drag the point diagonally to rescale the picture to fit the block. With the picture selected, hold down the Ctrl key, select the block and align the centers.
Each area of the heart will be assigned a different fabric. The ruffled edges and the lace insert will be eliminated.
From the Fabric Library, select the first fabric you will use in the appliqué. Select the Draw Appliqué tool. Click points to set the boundary around one of the shapes. (Right clicks set curves, left clicks set corners, backspace erases the last point.) When you have finished setting points around the first boundary, press Enter. Press Enter again to complete the shape. Repeat for each section of the appliqué.
Click the Show Picture tool to remove the picture from the view screen.
If necessary, reshape the boundary lines of the applique pieces.
Using the Paintbrush tool, select a fabric from the Library and fill the borders of the quilt.
Save the project. Print the appliqué pattern pieces and quilt templates.
Select File>Close.
