- GENERAL 1.1 SUMMARY

g. Paging Horns h. Master Clock i. Program Sources 1.2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. Design Requirements

1. The facility intercommunication system shall be a low voltage system that utilizes a copper cable infrastructure to distribute a user-defined input in a single or bi-directional manner.

The system shall be capable of multiple, simultaneous conversations on separate channels throughout the facility through telephones and loudspeaker assemblies. A programmable master clock with correction of secondary clocks shall also be included as part of the overall system. The system shall be microprocessor based and be fully compatible with the telephone system installed within the facility. In addition, the system must be expandable to meet the user’s future expansion needs and be programmable from a computer terminal located at the facility.

B. Performance Requirements

1. Fully interconnect with the facility telephone system.

2. Rack/Cabinet mountable equipment

3. Announcement distribution from a central location to zones, individual classrooms, groups or all facility speakers

4. Broadcast of user defined input (radio signal, compact disc, aux input, etc.) to zones, individual rooms, groups or all facility loudspeakers

5. Emergency cut-in to all speakers in an emergency situation from a central location 6. Two-way intercommunication between the central rack, any call-in location or any

selected two-way speaker location

7. Hands free communications by means of a loudspeaker or speakerphone used as a transducer or speaker/microphone combination

8. Visual and audio monitoring of all intercommunication system activity

9. Volume and level controls for all centrally located intercommunication system equipment 10. Adjustment and correction of building-wide clocks relative to a centrally located master

clock

11. Tone distribution based off the master clock that can be partitioned into zones 12. Capability to tie into any auxiliary sound system throughout the facility

13. High priority call-in from any telephone in an emergency situation 1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data

1. Submit equipment prints, panel diagrams, full electronic wiring diagrams and

specifications sheets for items included herein. Provide a tabulation of the specification clearly comparing the submitted items with the items specified. Specifications shall be submitted for all items

B. Shop Drawings

1. Shop drawings detailing integrated electronic communications network systems including the built-in station arrangement and equipment cabinet arrangement.

2. Wiring diagrams detailing power, signal and control.

3. Typical connections for all types of equipment.

4. A riser diagram for the system showing all connections, interconnections and all provisions available for future expandability.

C. Samples

1. Provide a sample of all equipment and components that will be installed in a typical classroom.

D. Quality Assurance/Controls Submittals 1. Test Reports

a. Calculations, charts and test data for the system demonstrating full functionality 2. Certificates

a. A certificate of completion of installation and service training.

3. Manufacturer’s Instructions

a. User’s Manual shall be provided and adhered to in all circumstances unless approved by the authority.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Qualifications

1. All items of equipment including wiring and cable shall be designed by the manufacturer to function as a complete system and shall be accompanied by the manufacturer’s complete service notes and drawings detailing all interconnections

2. The contractor shall be an established communications and electronics contractor that has had and currently maintains a locally run and operated business for a minimum of five years. The contractor shall utilize an authorized distributor of the equipment supplied for this project location with full manufacturer’s warranty privileges.

3. The contractor shall show satisfactory evidence that the supplier maintains a fully equipped service organization capable of furnishing adequate inspection and service to

the system. The supplier shall maintain at his facility the necessary spare parts to properly service the equipment.

B. Regulatory Requirements

1. Electrical Component Standard: Provide work complying with the applicable requirements of NFPA 70 “NEC” including, but not limited to:

a. Article 250, Grounding b. Article 300, Wiring Method

c. Article 310, Conductors for General Wiring d. Article 725, Remote Control, Signaling Circuits e. Article 800, Communications Systems

2. EIA Compliance: Comply with the following Electronics Industry Association Standards:

a. Sound Systems, EIA-160

b. Loudspeakers, Dynamic Magnetic Structures and Impedance, EIA-299-A c. Racks, Panels and Associated Equipment, EIA-310-A

d. Amplifiers for Sound Equipment, SE 101-A e. Speakers for Sound Equipment, SE 103 C. Certifications

1. The installing contractor must be a certified by the manufacturer on the equipment being installed.

2. Installation and start up of all systems shall be under the direct supervision of a local agency regularly engaged in installation, repair, and maintenance of such systems. The supplier shall be accredited by the proposed equipment manufacturers and be prepared to offer a service contract for system maintenance on completion of the guarantee period and provide the names, locations, and size of ten (10) recent successful installations in the area

3. The agency providing equipment shall be responsible for providing all specified equipment and mentioned services for all equipment as specified herein. The agency must be a local authorized distributor of all specified equipment for single source of responsibility and shall provide documents proving such. The agency must provide written proof that the agency is adequately staffed with factory-trained technicians for all of the specified equipment. The agency must have established business for and currently be providing all services for the equipment to be provided for a minimum of 20 years.

D. Pre-Installation Meetings

1. The Contractor shall visit the sites and familiarize himself with the existing conditions and field requirements prior to submitting a proposal.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Conditions for Consideration of "Or Equal" Products: Where products are specified by name and accompanied by the term "or equal”, the proposed "or equal" product will be considered when the following conditions are satisfied. If all the following conditions are not satisfied, Design Consultant will return requests without action, except to record noncompliance with these requirements:

1. Proposed product does not require extensive revisions to the Contract Documents.

2. With the exception of the product name or number and manufacturer's name, proposed product conforms with requirements indicated on the Drawings and in the Specifications in every respect and will produce indicated results.

3. Proposed product t is fully documented and properly submitted.

4. Proposed product has received necessary approvals of authorities having jurisdiction.

5. Proposed product is compatible with AND has been coordinated with other portions of the Work.

6. Proposed product provides specified warranty.

7. If proposed product involves more than one contractor, proposed product has been coordinated with other portions of the Work, is uniform and consistent, is compatible with other products, and is acceptable to all contractors involved.

8. Submission is accompanied with detailed comparison of significant qualities of proposed product with those named in the Specifications. Significant qualities include attributes such as performance, weight, size, durability, visual effect, and specific features and requirements indicated.

9. Submission is accompanied with a list of similar installations for completed projects with project names and addresses and names and addresses of design consultants and authorities, if requested.

10. Submission is accompanied with proposed product's Manufacturer signed written statement on Manufacturer's letterhead, certifying that manufacturer complies with requirements in the Contract Documents.

B. Mockups: provide a working example of the system for the owner to review prior to system-wide purchase and installation

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Packing, Shipping, Handling and Unloading

1. Deliver products in factory containers to the site.

2. Handle carefully to avoid damage.

B. Storage and Protection

1. Store in clean, dry space in original containers. Protect products from fumes and construction traffic.

1.7 WARRANTY

A. Special Warranty

1. On-the-premise maintenance shall be provided at no cost to the purchaser for a period of two (1) year (parts and labor) from date of acceptance unless damage or failure is caused by misuse, abuse, neglect, or accident. The warranty period shall begin on the date of acceptance by the authority/design consultant.

2. Products and systems are covered by a five (5) year (parts only) limited warranty from the date of acceptance. The warranty period shall begin on the date of acceptance by the authority/design consultant.

1.8 COMMISSIONING

A. In-Service Training

1. The contractor shall provide a minimum of eight hours of in-service training with this system. These sessions shall be broken into segments that will facilitate the training of

individuals in the operation of this system at the site. Operators Manuals and Users Guides shall be provided at the time of this training.

2. All passwords and codes necessary to operate and maintain the system must be given to the owner prior to commissioning of the system.

3. The installer shall provide a minimum of 2 electronic and 2 hardcopies of the operation and maintenance manuals during commissioning.

1.9 MAINTENANCE A. Extra Materials

1. The contractor shall guarantee availability of all specified equipment from an authorized distributor of all equipment specified under this section.

B. Maintenance Service

1. The contractor shall guarantee availability of local service by factory-trained personnel.

2. The contractor shall, at the authority’s request, make available a service contract offering continuing factory authorized service of the system after the initial warranty period.
