Installing NTP Package

In order to use the NTP server function on Redhat Enterprise Linux, the ntp package must be installed.

Name ntp

Version 4.2.0.a.20050816

Service Name ntpd

Daemon Program /usr/sbin/ntpd

Configuration files /etc/ntp.conf

Automatic Launch of Service

After installing the ntp package, the service is not launched automatically for security reasons. Therefore, set the service to launch automatically using chkconfig.

8.3

NTP Server Operation Settings

Modify /etc/ntp.conf for full-time connection environment setting, which allows communi-

cation with higher level NTP servers continuously. Make the basic settings for ntpd since full-time connection environment allows the ntpd to request to the higher level NTP servers at any time. The following shows an example of /etc/ntp.conf for full-time connection environment.

Fax Server

The fax server the scanner supports is "RightFax".

The fax function of this scanner sends the scanned data as an attached file to the send mail server (SMTP) based on the information set with the "Fax Server" screen of administrative function. When RightFax accesses the receive mail server (POP3) on a regular basis and detects the sent mail, the data is analyzed and sent by fax. Thus, SMTP server and POP3 service must be set before using RightFax with this scanner.

For SMTP server and POP3 service settings, refer to "Chapter 3 Mail Server" (page 23). This chapter describes the fax server settings using Windows 2003 as an example.

Installing RightFax

For information on installing RightFax, refer to a manual that describes RightFax installation. This scanner uses RightFax E-mail Gateway functions for SMTP/POP3 (henceforth referred to "E- mail Gateway").

The E-mail Gateway monitors specified mailboxes of a mail server. If an e-mail is received, it is accessed by using POP3, imported to the RightFax server, and sent by fax. For e-mail routing, the scanner uses a method for specifying a fax number in the e-mail address description-area. (It is not necessary for customers to be aware of the description area.) Using this e-mail routing method les- sons need to make changes to the mail server settings.

For details about E-mail Gateway, refer to "Using RightFax E-mail Gateways" and "Simple mail- box with description-area fax information" in the "RightFax Administrator’s Guide".

Hereinafter, "RFAX" account is used as an example to explain how RightFax uses POP3 to moni- tor a mail server mailbox to access an account.

E-mail Gateway Settings

The following shows the procedure for setting E-mail Gateway.

1. Create a POP3 mailbox for E-mail Gateway.

Create a POP3 mailbox to be used exclusively for the E-mail Gateway. E-mail Gateway monitors the mailbox regularly for e-mails to be sent by fax.

2. Add and configure E-mail Gateways.

1. Run the E-mail Gateway configuration program.

Run the E-mail Gateway configuration program in one of the following ways.

• If you did not add an e-mail gateway during the RightFax server installation, you can open the E-mail Gateway configuration program from Windows Control Panel.

• If you already have one or more e-mail gateways configured, you can open the E- mail Gateway configuration program by double-clicking the RightFax E-mail Gateway service in Enterprise Fax Manager.

⇒The "E-mail Configuration" dialog box opens. 2. Add a new E-mail Gateway.

For "E-mail delivery direction", set "Both", "Outbound with Notifications", or "Outbound without Notifications".

For "Server address", specify the mail server name (check if the RightFax mail server name can be set beforehand), or the mail server IP address.

For "FROM message", specify the RFAX mail address.

For "Default username", specify "DEFAULT", or the user ID of the user sending the fax.

For "POP3 mailbox name", specify "RFAX".

For "Mailbox password", specify the RFAX password.

Check that the checkbox for "Send through DEFAULT user when e-mail sender is unknown" has been selected.

HINT The following explains the available settings for "E-mail delivery

direction".

• "Both"

Sending and receiving with notification

• "Inbound Only"

Receiving with notification

• "Outbound with Notifications" Sending with notification

• "Outbound without Notifications" Sending without notification

When sending, an e-mail is sent by fax.

When receiving, a fax or image is received as an e-mail attachment. Notifications result of sending/receiving transmissions, which are sent as e-mails.

When using the scanner, to send e-mail data as a fax, it is necessary to set "Both", "Outbound with Notifications", or "Outbound without Notifications".

If you have two mail servers (one dedicated to SMTP and one dedi- cated to POP3), create two equivalent SMTP/POP3 E-mail Gateways and set one to perform only inbound messaging and the other to per- form only outbound messaging in the following way.

Press the [Add Gateway...] button, and set the following.

• SMTP server

In "Server address", set the SMTP server name or SMTP server IP address. For "E-mail delivery direction", set "Inbound Only".

• POP3 server

In "Server address", set the POP3 server name or POP3 server IP address. For "E-mail delivery direction", set "Outbound without Noti- fications".

3. Set the SMTP server and the fax server e-mail address in the scanner.

• Set the SMTP server.

Enter the value set in "Server address" from Step "2. Add a new E-mail Gateway." (page 65). For more details, refer to "3.6.6 Setting the e-Mail Server" in the "Network Scanner fi-6000NS Operator’s Guide".

• Set the fax server e-mail address.

Enter the value set in "FROM message" from Step "2. Add a new E-mail Gateway." (page 65). For more details, refer to "3.6.7 Setting the Fax Server" in the "Network Scanner fi-6000NS Operator's Guide".
