Division 2.2 Strength in fire § 2.2.1 New structures
Article 2.8
1. A structure to be built has a load-bearing structure which is such that in the event of fire the structure can be left and searched during a reasonable period of time without the risk of collapse.
2. In so far as regulations for a functional unit are prescribed in table 2.8, for that functional unit the requirement of the first paragraph is complied with through application of those regulations.

Reference time of collapse
Article 2.9
1. An ultimate limit state of a load-bearing structure of which collapse will render a smoke-free escape route unusable, is not exceeded during 30 minutes at the special combinations of actions that can occur in a fire, determined according to NEN 6702.
2. Without prejudice to the first paragraph, an ultimate limit state of a main load-bearing structure prescribed in table 2.9.1 is not exceeded during the period of time indicated in that table at the special combinations of actions that can occur in a fire according to NEN 6702.

3. In deviation of the second paragraph, the period of time prescribed in table 2.9.1 is reduced by 30 minutes, if the permanent fire-load density according to NEN 6090 of the structure of which the main load-bearing structure is part, does not exceed 500 MJ/m2 and no floor of a habitable space is higher than 7 m above ground level.
4. Without prejudice to the first paragraph, an ultimate limit state of the main load-bearing structure of a functional unit of which a floor of a habitable space is higher than 5 m above ground level is not exceeded during 90 minutes at the special combinations of actions that can occur in a fire according to NEN 6702.
5. Without prejudice to the first paragraph, an ultimate limit state of a main load-bearing structure prescribed in table 2.9.2 is not exceeded during the period of time indicated in that table at the special combinations of actions that can occur in a fire according to NEN 6702.

6. In deviation of the fourth and fifth paragraphs, the fire resistance period is reduced by 30 minutes, if the permanent fire-load density according to NEN 6090 of the structure of which the main load- bearing structure is part, does not exceed 500 MJ/m2.
7. Dependent on the intended use and layout of a structure, an ultimate limit state of a main load- bearing structure is not exceeded at the special combinations of actions that may occur in a fire determined according to NEN 6702, during such a period that in the event of fire the structure can be left and searched within a reasonable time without the risk of collapse of the main load-bearing structure.
Determination method
Article 2.10
The period during which an ultimate limit state of a load-bearing structure is not exceeded, as referred to in article 2.9, is determined according to:
a. NEN 6069. b. NEN 6071, c. NEN 6072 or d. NEN 6073.

5.
