Two-Dimensional Design I is an introduction to principles and tech- niques in drawing. Students will gain a working knowledge of line, shape, perspective, volume, and composition as it relates to life drawing. Various media and techniques will be explored throughout the semester, with special emphasis on graphite, charcoal, pen and ink, pastels, and colored pencil. Students will be taught and encour- aged to explore creative solutions to problems presented and they will be motivated in every exercise through historical and student visual examples. Students will be introduced to art criticism meth- ods and will be expected to participate in class critiques. Finally, aesthetic questions and lateral thinking exercises will be incorpo- rated to enhance critical thinking skills.

Three-Dimensional Design I is an introductory course to traditional sculpting methods. Traditional materials include wood, wire, paper, and clay (hand-building). Students will be encouraged to explore creative solutions to problems presented and they will be motivated in every exercise through historical and student visual examples. Students will be introduced to art criticism methods and will be expected to participate in class critiques. This choir will perform with the concert choir, honors choir, and by themselves several times during the year. The Wando Singers meet for one block in the fall and one block in the spring for rehearsal.
DANCE

This introductory course provides conditioning, flexibility, and en- durance to supplement dance techniques. This class focuses on the development of the body/mind through the use of specific yoga postures, stretches, mental and relaxation exercises to obtain greater concentration, self-discipline and improved physical, mental and emotional health. Students will be required to dress out every day. Grades will be determined by class participation as well as class projects. There is not a performance requirement for this course. Students who wish to skip Introduction to Dance and go directly into Dance I must audition for placement.

This class focuses on technique and students will study ballet, mod- ern, jazz, and history. Students will be required to dress out and participate every day. All students who wish to take Dance 2 must complete Dance 1. Students who wish to skip the Introduc- tion to Dance class and go directly to Dance 1 must audition for placement.

Students in Dance 2 will study ballet, modern, jazz, and history. Students will also study improvisation and choreography. Dance students are graded on performance, class participation, choreography projects, and test. Students are responsible for appropriate costumes for perform- ances and recitals.
