Eurostat hat die Aufgabe, den

Informa-tionsbedarf der Kommission und aller am

Aufbau des Binnenmarktes Beteiligten

mit Hilfe des europäischen statistischen

Systems zu decken.

Um der Öffentlichkeit die große Menge an

verfügbaren Daten zugänglich zu machen

und Benutzern die Orientierung zu

erleichtern, werden zwei Arten von

Publi-kationen angeboten: Statistische

Doku-mente und Veröffentlichungen.

Statistische Dokumente sind für den

Fachmann konzipiert und enthalten das

ausführliche Datenmaterial:

Bezugs-daten, bei denen die Konzepte allgemein

bekannt, standardisiert und

wissenschaft-lich fundiert sind. Diese Daten werden in

einer sehr tiefen Gliederung dargeboten.

Die Statistischen Dokumente wenden

sich an Fachleute, die in der Lage sind,

selbständig die benötigten Daten aus der

Fülle des dargebotenen Materials

auszu-wählen. Diese Daten sind in gedruckter

Form und/oder auf Diskette,

Magnet-band, CD-ROM verfügbar. Statistische

Dokumente unterscheiden sich auch

optisch von anderen Veröffentlichungen

durch den mit einer stilisierten Graphik

versehenen weißen Einband.

Veröffentlichungen wenden sich an eine

ganz bestimmte Zielgruppe, wie zum

Beispiel an den Bildungsbereich oder an

Entscheidungsträger in Politik und

Ver-waltung. Sie enthalten ausgewählte und

auf die Bedürfnisse einer Zielgruppe

abgestellte und kommentierte

Informa-tionen. Eurostat übernimmt hier also eine

Art Beraterrolle.

Für einen breiteren Benutzerkreis gibt

Eurostat Jahrbücher und periodische

Veröffentlichungen heraus. Diese

enthal-ten statistische Ergebnisse für eine erste

Analyse sowie Hinweise auf weiteres

Datenmaterial für vertiefende

Unter-suchungen. Diese Veröffentlichungen

werden in gedruckter Form und in

Daten-banken angeboten, die in Menütechnik

zugänglich sind.

Um Benutzern die Datensuche zu

erleich-tern, hat Eurostat Themenkreise, d. h.

eine Untergliederung nach Sachgebieten,

eingeführt. Daneben sind sowohl die

Statistischen Dokumente als auch die

Veröffentlichungen in bestimmte Reihen,

wie zum Beispiel „Jahrbücher",

„Kon-junktur", „Methoden", untergliedert, um

den Zugriff auf die statistischen

Informa-tionen zu erleichtern.

It is Eurostat's responsibility to use the

European statistical system to meet the

requirements of the Commission and all

parlies involved in the development of the

single market.

To ensure that the vast quantity of

ac-cessible data is made widely available,

and to help each user make proper use of

this information, Eurostat has set up two

main categories of document: statistical

documents and publications.

The statistical document is aimed at

spe-cialists and provides the most complete

sets of data: reference data where the

methodology is well-established,

stand-ardised, uniform and scientific. These

data are presented in great detail. The

statistical document is intended for

ex-perts who are capable of using their own

means to seek out what they require. The

information is provided on paper and/or

on diskette, magnetic tape, CD-ROM. The

white cover sheet bears a stylised motif

which distinguishes the statistical

docu-ment from other publications.

The publications proper tend to be

com-piled for a well-defined and targeted

public, such as educational circles or

political and administrative

decision-makers. The information in these

docu-ments is selected, sorted and annotated

to suit the target public. In this instance,

therefore, Eurostat works in an advisory

capacity.

Where the readership is wider and less

well-defined, Eurostat provides the

infor-mation required for an initial analysis,

such as yearbooks and periodicals which

contain data permitting more in-depth

studies. These publications are available

on paper or in videotext databases.

To help the user focus his research,

Eurostat has created 'themes', i.e. subject

classifications. The statistical documents

and publications are listed by series: for

example, yearbooks, short-term trends or

methodology in order to facilitate access

to the statistical data.

données sont présentées à un niveau très

détaillé. Le document statistique est

des-tiné aux experts capables de rechercher,

par leurs propres moyens, les données

requises. Les informations sont alors

disponibles sur papier et/ou sur disquette,

bande magnétique, CD-ROM. La

couver-ture blanche ornée d'un graphisme stylisé

démarque le document statistique des

autres publications.

Les publications proprement dites

peu-vent, elles, être réalisées pour un public

bien déterminé, ciblé, par exemple

l'enseignement ou les décideurs

politi-ques ou administratifs. Des informations

sélectionnées, triées et commentées en

fonction de ce public lui sont apportées.

Eurostat joue, dès lors, le rôle de

conseil-ler.

Dans le cas d'un public plus large, moins

défini, Eurostat procure des éléments

nécessaires à une première analyse, les

annuaires et les périodiques, dans

les-quels figurent les renseignements

adé-quats pour approfondir l'étude. Ces

publications sont présentées sur papier

ou dans des banques de données de type

vidéotex.

Vorwort

Diese Veröffentlichung von Eurostat enthält statistische Daten über Eisenbahngüterverkehr, ermittelt durch die

Mitgliedstaaten in Durchführung der Richtlinie 80/1177/EWG, für das Jahr 1996.

Das Ziel dieser Richtlinie ist, detaillierte Statistiken über Eisenbahngüterverkehr mit einer Untergliederung nach

Gütergruppen sowie nach Herkunft und Ziel zur Verfügung zu stellen. Diese Statistiken beziehen sich auf das

Haupteisenbahnnetz in den Mitgliedstaaten, wie sie unter "Quellen" aufgelistet sind.

Entsprechend der Richtlinie 91/440/EWG zur Entwicklung der Eisenbahnunternehmen der Gemeinschaft, ist die

europäische Eisenbahnindustrie in den vergangenen Jahren weitgehend reorganisiert worden. Zusammen mit

anderen Faktoren hat diese Reorganisation einige Schwierigkeiten bei der Übermittlung von Statistiken an

Eurostat verursacht. Das Ergebnis ¡st, daß die Tabellen für 1996 im Vergleich mit früheren Ausgaben dieser

Veröffentlichung sehr unvollständig sind (siehe untenstehende Tabelle). Eurostat überarbeitet die Richtlinie von

1980 mit der Absicht, ein verbessertes System für Eisenbahnverkehrsstatistik zu entwickeln, das an die neue

Industriestruktur und die aktuellen Bedürfnisse der Benutzer dieser Statistiken angepaßt ist.

Eurostat macht diese Statistiken ebenfalls in der Datenbank New Cronos zugänglich, die die vollständigste und

aktuellste Version dieser Datensammlung zur Verfügung stellt.

Eurostat möchte allen Personen und Organisationen in den Mitgliedstaaten danken, die daran mitgewirkt haben,

Rechtliche Grundlagen

Richtlinie 80/1177/EWG des Rates vom 4. Dezember 1980 (ABI. L350 vom 23.12.1980, S. 23).

Anwendungsbereich

Die Mitgliedstaaten erstellen Statistiken über den Güterverkehr auf den in ihren Hoheitsgebiet dem öffentlichen

Verkehr dienenden Haupteisenbahnnetzen.

Diese Richtlinie gilt nicht für den nachstehend genannten Eisenbahngüterverkehr: Dienstverkehr für

nichtgewerbliche Zwecke, mitgeführtes Reisegepäck und im Autoreisezug mitgeführte Kraftwagen, Postgut der

Postverwaltung.

Art der Verladung

Wagen- oder Ganzzugladung: Gütersendung, einschl. Sammelladung von Stückgut, für welche die

ausschließliche Verwendung eines Güterwagens oderZuges berechnet wird, auch wenn die Ladekapazität nicht

voll ausgenutzt wird.

Stückgut - Sonstige Gütersendungen, einschl. Expreßg'uJ und sonstige Pakete.

Großraumcontainer

Container 6,1 m (20 Fuß) äußerer Länge oder mehr.

Gewicht bei kombiniertem Transport

Soweit nicht anders angegeben, schließt das genannte Gewicht das Gewicht des Containers oder des

Straßenfahrzeugs ein..

Durchgangsverkehr

Unter Durchgangsverkehr versteht man Durchgangsverkehr ohne Umladung.

Allgemeines

In den Tabellen 1A und 1B werden Ganzzugladungen und Wagenladungen sowie Stückgut aufgeführt; die

anderen Tabellen enthalten nur Ganzzug- und Wagenladungen.

Weil nicht alle Mitgliedstaaten Daten für das Jahr 1996 ermittelt haben, stehen die Eur-15 Tabellen nicht zur

Verfugung.

Preface

In this publication, Eurostat makes available statistics on the transport of goods by rail, which are supplied by

Member States according to Council Directive 80/1177/EEC, for the reference year 1996.

The objective of this Directive is to provide a detailed set of statistics on the transport of goods by rail, with a

breakdown by type of goods as well as by origin and destination. These statistics refer to the principal railway

network in each Member State, as listed under "Sources".

In recent years, there has been extensive reorganization in the European railway industry, following the principles

outlined in Council Directive 91/440/EEC. This reorganization, together with other factors, has caused some

difficulties with the transmission of statistics to Eurostat, with the result that the tables available for 1996 are very

incomplete, compared to previous editions of this publication (see table below). Eurostat is reviewing the 1980

Directive, with the intention of developing an improved system for rail transport statistics which is adapted to the

new structure of the industry and to the current needs of users of these statistics.

Eurostat is also making available these statistics in the New Cronos database, which provides the most complete

and up to date version of this dataset.

Eurostat wishes to thank all the people and organizations in Member States who have worked to provide the data

for this publication.

Council Directive 80/1177/EEC of 4 December 1980 (OJ L 350, 23.12.1980, p. 23).

Application

Member states compile statistics on the carriage of goods on the main railway networks in their territory open to

public traffic.

The Directive does not apply to the carriage of goods by rail as service traffic for non-commercial purposes, as

passenger-accompanied luggage or cars, or as mail on behalf of postal administrations.

Type of consignment

Consignment by full wagon or full trainload - consignment of goods, including consignment of small packages,

for which the exclusive use of a wagon or train is charged, whether or not the load capacity is fully used.

Consignment of small packages: other consignment of goods, including express and other parcels.

Large container

Containers 6.1 m (20 feet) or more in external length.

Combined transport weight

The weight indicated includes the weight of the container or road vehicle, except where otherwise indicated.

Transit

Transit means transit without transhipment.

General note

Tables 1A and 1Β referto full trains and wagons together with consignments of small packages. The other tables

refer only to full trains or wagons.

Since not all Member States provided data for the year 1996, the EUR-15 summary tables are not available.

Préface

Dans cette publication, Eurostat met à disposition des statistiques sur le transport des marchandises par rail, qui

sont fournies par les États membres selon Directive 80/1177/CEE du Conseil, pour l'année 1996, relative au

relevé statistique des transports de marchandises par chemin de fer dans le cadre d'une statistique régionale.

L'objectif de la présente directive est de fournir un ensemble détaillé de statistiques sur le transport des

marchandises par rail, avec une ventilation par type de marchandises et également par origine et destination.

Ces statistiques font référence au réseau de chemin de fer principal dans chaque État membre, comme décrit

dans les sources.

Ces dernières années, il y eu une réorganisation importante dans l'industrie européenne de chemin de fer,

d'après les principes décrits dans Directive 91/440/CEE du Conseil, relative au développement de chemins de

fer communautaires.

Cette réorganisation, ainsi que d'autres facteurs, ont présenté certaines difficultés dans la transmission des

statistiques à Eurostat, avec comme résultat, que les tableaux disponibles pour 1996 sont très incomplets,

comparé aux éditions précédentes de cette publication (voir le tableau ci-dessous). Eurostat examine la

directive de 1980, avec l'intention de développer un système amélioré pour les statistiques de transport

ferroviaire, mieux adapté à la nouvelle structure de l'industrie et aux besoins actuels des utilisateurs de ces

statistiques.

Eurostat met également à disposition ces statistiques dans la nouvelle base de données New Cronos, qui fournit

la version la plus complète à ce jour de cet ensemble de données.

Eurostat souhaite remercier toutes les personnes et organisations dans les États membres qui ont travaillé pour

fournir les données pour cette publication.

Notes méthodologiques

Base juridique

Directive 80/1177/CEE du Conseil, du 4 décembre 1980 (JO L 350 du 23.12.1980, p. 23).

Champ d'application

Les Etats membres établissent des statistiques sur le transport de marchandises sur les réseaux principaux de

chemin de fer situés sur le territoire et ouverts aux trafic public.

La directive ne s'applique pas au transport de marchandises par chemin de fer suivants: trafic de service effectué

à des fins non commerciales, bagages et voitures accompagnant les passager ainsi que courrier pour le compte

des administrations des postes.

Type d'envoi

Envoi par wagon complet ou train complet: envoi de marchandises, y compris le groupage d'envoi de

marchandises, y compris le groupage d'envoi de détail, pour lesquel l'usage exclusif du wagon ou du train est

taxé, que la capacité d'un wagon soit utilisée en totalité ou seulement en partie.

Envoi de détail: autre envois de marchandises, y compris les collies express et autres.

Grand conteneur

Conteneur 6,1 m (20 pieds) ou plus de longueur externe.

Poids de transport combiné

Le poids indiqué comprend le poids du conteneur ou du véhicule routier, sauf indication contraire.

Transit

Par transit, en entend transit sans transbordement.

Note générale

Les Tableaux 1A et 1B portent sur les trains et wagons complets ainsi que les envois de détail; les autres

tableaux portent uniquement sur les trains et wagons complets.

Quand ne pas tous les Etats membres ont donnée les data, les tableaux EUR-15 ne sont pas là dans cette

publication.
