MEDITERRANEAN SARDTNES AND ANCHOVIES

The

Council

agreed

to a

Commission

proposal

to

extend

for

one

year

from

1

January

198l the

derogation provided

for

in

Regulation

2204/84, under

the

terms

of

which

individual

producers

in

Greece

can

benefit

from

the special

carry-over

premium

in the

absence

of

producer

organizations.

HERRING

The

Council

took note

of a report

from

the

Commission

concerning

the current situation in the herring

market,

and

in particular of the satisfactory

growth

in

Community

production.

It invited the relevant

lrlorking

Party

to further

examine the

report

and

in particul-ar

measures

which

might

prove

necessary

in a

growing

market.

At the

same

time

the

Council

decided

to

replenish

the

,

exj.sting

tariff

quota

for herring

and

to

extend

its validily

from

Jl

December

1984

to I4

February

1985.

GUIDE PRICES FOR 1985

The

council

adopted

two Regulations

fixing

guide prices

for certain fishery

products

for

1985.

The

Council

also

fixed

the

Community

producer

price for

tuna

intended

for the

canning

industry for the

t9B5

fishing

year.

The

progress

made

during

the first

round

of

consultations

between

the

community

and

the

Faroe

rslands

held

on

5/6

November

1984. The

councir,

recognising

the

need

for a

speedy

conclusion

of

these

negotiations,

invited the

permanent

Representatives

cornmittee

to

fo1low

up

work on

this

matter.

FRENCH GUYANA

-The

couneil

took note

of a

statement from

the

commission

with

regards

to i-ts intention to

submit

in the

near future

a

proposal

concerning

non-community

fishing in the

waters of

French

Guyana

after

1 January t985.

The

Commission

was

asked

to

take

into

account

the

views expressed

at this

meeting when

formulating

its

proposal.

REEMENT

The

council,

recognizing

the interest for

community

fishermen

of

concruding

fisheries

agreements

in Bartic

waters,

agreed

to

re-examine

this

question

in

January

l9B5

on

the

basis of a report

from

the

Commission.

THIRD COUNTRY hIATERS

The Council-

took note

of a

statement

by

the

Commission

concerning

the

measures

it

intends

to

take

to

improve

the

exehange

of

information

between

certain third

countri-es,

and

in particular

Norway,

and

the

Commission

on quota

utili

z,ation

by

vessels

of

member

states in third

country

waters.

The

Council

instructed a

Working

Party

to

examine

this

question

further in the light of

comments made

during

the

meeting and on

the

basis

of either

a

working paper

or a

formal

proposal,

whichever

the

Commission

feels it

most appropriate

to

submit.

TECHN]CAL CONSERVATION MEASURES

The

Council agreed,

in the

absence

of sufficient scientific

advice

to

postpone

until

1

July

L987

the decision

concerning

the

increase

in

minimum mesh

size

applicable

in the

English

channel.

The

Council

also

agreed

to

reexamine

the other

provisions

proposed

- in particular the

question

of

beam-trawling

- after

further

examination

at the technical leveI.
