POSITION PURPOSE
• The position will provide instructional design and educational technology support to faculty using the learning management system Desire2Learn (D2L) for online classes, faculty using D2L to enhance on-campus classes, and faculty/staff using D2L for training and other applications, such as advising.
• The position will provide faculty and staff with training in the learning management system D2L and in other educational technologies related to D2L and online teaching; the position will also develop appropriate training materials.
• This position will serve as back-up administrator of the campus learning management system, currently
Desire2Learn (D2L), and will work closely with the BSU lead D2L administrator and other back-up administrators and the MnSCU Office of Information Technology staff to support D2L.
• The position will provide supplementary support to students and the Information Technology Services Helpdesk staff on D2L-related issues.

1. The position will provide instructional design and educational

a. Assist faculty in adapting traditional courses to the online environment using instructional design strategies based on learning theory.
b. Assist faculty and staff in creating effective environments in D2L for their online classes, web-enhanced classes, advising, and training.
c. Work with faculty to apply “best practices” in online education. d. Make recommendations concerning use of multimedia and
other technologies to enhance the learning environment in D2L.
e. Provide regularly scheduled office/department visits to provide support for faculty on campus
f. Provide guidance to faculty and staff interested in using D2L for university activities outside of the academic class. g. Facilitate, monitor, and expand orientation course in D2L for

Tasks
• Manage the process for the training lifecycle, from initial needs analysis through delivery, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement
• Provide ongoing training & support for:
o Course Management System (Desire2Learn)
o Course development tools such as Respondus,
Captivate/Camtasia, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Sound Recorder, Skype, web-conferencing, etc.
• Conduct research for and facilitate workshops on emerging technologies and online teaching strategies
• Provide regularly scheduled training workshops in the eLearning Center and online

This position will serve as back-up administrator of the campus learning management system, currently Desire2Learn (D2L), and will work closely with the BSU lead D2L administrator and other back-up administrators and the MnSCU Office of Information Technology staff to support D2L.

NATURE AND SCOPE RELATIONSHIPS:
This position works in many capacities supporting and assisting faculty with the design and development of online and web-enhanced courses and for other activities involving the University learning management system (D2L). This position will consult with colleagues from eLearning Support, Center for Extended Learning, Information Technology Services, the Academic Technology Center, and with other individuals who provide support to faculty and staff using D2L
REQUIREMENTS
• Master’s degree in the field of Education completed by date of hire; including course work in Instructional Design, Online Learning, and Educational Psychology and Learning Theory
• 2 or more years of work experience in online higher education using a learning management system, such as Desire2Learn
• Administrative experience in a learning management system, such as Desire2Learn
• Instructional design experience in both face-to-face and online learning environments in higher education
• Experience developing training materials and facilitating effective training experiences in higher education
• Experience conducting educational research and making application of findings in higher education
• Excellent time/project management skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to contribute effectively in a team environment
• Advanced computer knowledge and troubleshooting skills (e.g., MS Office)
• Knowledge of current educational technologies, and an interest in and willingness to learn emerging technologies DESIRED SKILLS
Experience with:
• Instructional design tools such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Captivate/Camtasia, Respondus, Adobe Connect, as well as print-based software such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Professional
