Overview

1.1

Document Purpose

This document provides the future research and development goals for the 2013 and 2014 releases of the Venza Group Learning Management System.

1.2

Background

The Venza Group Learning Management System is a feature-rich, online learning management system that requires only a standard web browser to create, track and manage all of your training initiatives. A Learning Management System (LMS) is a fully customizable pre-packaged, user-friendly learning portal that allows learners instant access to trusted, targeted content.

1.3

Documentation

Product documentation is available in the support section of the Venza Group website. You can access these using the following link: LMS User Guides. To view Venza Group product documentation in .PDF format, use Adobe Acrobat Reader (available at www.adobe.com).

1.4

Licensing

Licenses that you receive for Venza Group solutions are specific to the domain of your web environment. If you change the name of your domain or change IP addresses, you need to notify the Venza Group of the impending change. Each license of the Venza Group LMS is limited to one instance of the application whether it’s local or hosted.

2.0

What’s Next for Development

2.1

Pagination Update

This feature will provide a new and improved pagination function for all pages that require pagination.

2.2

Credit to Monetary eCommerce Update

This feature will remove the code / credit eCommerce functionality and replace it with a monetary system. This will allow for prices with decimal (i.e., $50.95). Upgrading this feature will also help optimize the eCommerce database table structure, decreasing the entries at a minimum of 100:1 ratio.

Version 1.0.0 Page 4

2.3

External Facing Landing Pages

This feature will allow for outward facing LMS landing pages that happen before the user has to sign on. Instead of waiting for the sign on credentials to determine the skins, the public user will see the skin before logging in.

2.4

Training Status Report

This report will provide the managers or administrators the ability to see all training or learning paths a user has not started, started, completed or failed.

2.5

Learning Paths / Roles

This feature will provide the ability to create learning paths and roles in the system. Learning paths can be attached to specific job roles or stand alone. Course will be tied to learning paths that a user must follow in order to get credit for that path. Curriculums will still house various courses, but the learning paths will allow a manager or administrator the ability to shape a particular path.

2.6

Open Enrollment by Group

This feature will allow the course open enrollment policy to be controlled at a group level as well as the course level. A whole group can be mandated to request enrollment even though the course has open enrollment.

2.7

Course Completion Automated Email

This automated email will send an email to the user once they have completed a course or have had a course manually completed for them.

2.8

Manual Complete or Override Status of Course

This feature will allow an administrator the ability to manually complete or override the status of a course. The course can be completed, “comped” or the status overridden.

2.9

Curriculum/ Courses by Group

This feature will allow group administrators to create their own courses and curriculum. They will be able to add courses that their group has access to into their new curriculum and assign access to their groups.

1.0

What’s Next for Research

1.1

Assignment of Super Admin Rights to Other Users

This feature would provide the ability to assign the Super Admin role to other users. This role is between the Super Admin and Admin roles. This role has the same rights as a typical admin, but they also have the ability to see and control all users for every group regardless of hierarchy. A normal admin can only see those within their hierarchy and below.

1.2

Certificate Customizations

1.2.1

Certificate Orientation

This update will offer the option for a portrait or landscape certificate in the Certificate Editor.

1.2.2

Multiple Signature Option

This update will provide the ability to have multiple signatures in the system for use in the certificates. Current functionality only allows multiple backgrounds.

1.3

Course Activity Report

This new report would show all course activity to include launching, taking, retaking, reviewing, and completing a course. The filters of this report would include by user, group, course, curriculum, date, etc.

1.4

Course Editor Customizations

1.4.1

Attachment Option in Course Editor

This update would allow a file attachment when uploading and creating courses or events. This attachment would be available to the user when they launch the course in the LMS API.

1.4.2

Instructor Assignment

This update would allow an Administrator to assign courses to an existing user in the system as the Instructor. This instructor would have the ability to run reports on this course, download rosters, and assign /unassign users of the course.

1.5

Course Rosters

This update would allow an Administrator or Manager/Instructor to download course rosters for each course or event. .

(6)

Version 1.0.0 Page 6

1.6

Curriculum Pricing and Enrollment

This feature would allow the Super Administrators or Administrators to add a price for each curriculum. A check box would be provided to determine if the curriculum price is a sum of all the prices of its

courses or is a custom price. A user could then enroll into a curriculum at that price. A manager or Administrator could assign curriculum at that price.

1.7

Discussion Board

This feature would give the ability for users to post a discussion and have other users post comments to that discussion. These discussions would be course and group based. Users enrolled in specific courses, would be able to see comments and posts related to those particular courses only. User of specific groups would be able to see comments and posts related to those groups only. Course based discussion boards would be available from the course API on the left-hand navigation when a course is launched.

1.8

Email Notifications and Templates

This feature would give the ability for a manager or administrator to create a template email and send it out to specific groups that report to them only. These email templates could be saved for future use. The Super Admin or Administrators at higher levels could create templates that can be saved and used by lower administrators. These custom emails could be added to the automated email blast schedule to help make communication automated.

1.9

Event Customizations

1.9.1

Event Survey / Test

This feature would give an option to attach a survey or test to an event to determine completion. These surveys or tests would be created using the course or survey editor.

1.10

Group Activation / Deactivation

This update would add a check box next to each Group so that the Administrators can de-activate or activate a group as needed. Each user in that group would be de-activated if the Administrator un-checks the box. It would also add an expiration date and/or number of days for expiration on the groups in the Group Manager. When the expiration date or days runs out, the group de-activates and all of the users are de-activated as well. When the expiration date or day is coming up, it would send an email to the Super Administrator and the Administrators of that group stating that de-activation of the group is pending.

1.11

Group Specific Information Pages

This feature would allow group Administrators to make information pages specific to that group.

(7)

Version 1.0.0 Page 7

groups cannot see these pages. The Administrators for each group could determine if the pages were available to each sub-group as well.

1.12

Module Toggling

This update would give the ability to toggle modules or features on/off using settings (ie. eCommerce, communication, etc.). All features in the LMS should be dynamic enough to toggle on/off without breaking the system.

1.13

Permission Customizations

1.13.1

Combine Permissions on One Page

This update will allow the permission settings for groups and/or users to be configured from one page instead of the 4 pages that are now broken into Administration, Manager, User, and Guest.

1.13.2

Custom Permissions for Individual Users

This update will allow detailed permission settings for individual users that override the default user group settings. The default permissions would be set on the Role level, but the administrators could go into the permission screen on an individual basis and give a specific person more or less permissions to the system.

1.14

User Activity Report

This new report would show LMS activity for users. The data available for this report would include: • Log-in activity by user(s) filterable by groups

Last log-in or all log-in (ie. by user, group, course, curriculum, etc.)

Amount of time spent in each session (ie. by user, group, course, curriculum, etc.) Total amount of time spent overall (ie. by user, group, course, curriculum, etc.).

1.15

SCORM 1.2 Compliance

This update would allow the importation of SCORM 1.2 courses.

1.16

Surveys

This feature would be based on the current test creator. An Administrator would use the new survey editor to create these surveys. The LMS would keep record of all answers and allow for download of results in report section. These surveys would be available to link to courses or events within the system and could be made mandatory for completion.

(8)

Version 1.0.0 Page 8

1.17

Unlimited Group Hierarchy

This update would provide the ability to create as many groups and subgroups (levels) as needed in the Group Manager.

1.18

Web 2.0 GUI

This update would give a gel-like interactivity (Adobe Flex-like qualities) to the LMS interface.

1.19

Writeboard / Internal Webinar

This feature would provide a collaborative writeboard feature similar to that found on Basecamp. The internal webinar feature would be similar to Adobe Connect / WebEx. The event creator would have the option of using internal web feature or outside link.
