Background

The Item Level Nutrition initiative is to provide Brand Owner

validated product nutrition information for protecting brand

integrity and ensuring consumer trust

Implementation Phases:

o

Phase 1 – B2B exchange of data

o

Phase 2 – Publish data to third party providers

(i.e.: Canadian Celiac Assoc, Heart & Stroke)

o

Phase 3 – Global interoperability

(Phases 2 and 3 require approval by the GS1 Canada Grocery Sector Board).

Phase 1 was approved by GS1 Canada Grocery Sector

Board in late 2011. Future phases TBD.

ECCnet Item Certification system was launched in March

2013 and it is a centralized industry solution for Brand

Owners to validate product nutrition data
