docLAB is an International Design Summer School initially realized in 12 July - 13 Aug 2010 in the main gallery of santralistanbul. All of the five courses offered by .docLAB were accredited by Ecole cantonale d'art de Lausanne (ECAL) with ECTS. Courses offered were as follows; Data Visualization, Media and Architecture , Animation and Interactive Projection, Generative Design: A Dynamic Collection, Beyond the Facade: Designing Interactive for Public and Corporate Buildings. This project was supported by prestigious institutions like, ECAL, Ars Electronica.

Visual Communication Design Dept. is the first one in Turkey to be established in this field. VCD, in the last twelve years, as a design school within İstanbul Bilgi University, gained a cult status and became a brand not only as a school but also as a cultural institution supporting the development of new media and related issues as well as avant-garde ways and movements in photography and design. This support does not only consist of encouraging theoretical research but also providing physical requirements for hands-on research and production.

Unique pioneering curriculum relied solely on end product oriented computerised design processes. In the VCD curriculum, emphasis is put mainly on the end product culminating well-known Annual Student Exhibitions titled TRACK Series from 2001 to 2010. VCD still holds the position as the only professional/academic group invited to the prestigious Ars Electronica Festival (Linz, Austria) so far from Turkey (Retrotracks 2005 Ars Electronica, Linz, Austria).

Future Lab of Ars Electronica, Media Lab of Helsinki Design University, are a few among the various institutions that currently employ VCD graduates in their research departments which clearly signify the international prospect of the curriculum. Student works were exhibited throughout Europe in cities such as Paris, Nantes, Linz, Cologne, Liege etc.
