About Australia

Australia is a safe and welcoming country with

one of the highest standards of living in the world.

Approximately 25% of the population of Australia was born overseas and 17% of Australians speak a language other than english at home, making it one of the most multicultural countries in the world. Australia is home to a diverse range of religions, and the Australian Constitution protects an individual’s right to freely practise their religion.

Australians love their arts as much as they love their sport. As an international student studying at CSU, you can enjoy access to a variety of cultural activities whether you’re living on one of our regional campuses or studying at locations in Canberra, melbourne or Sydney. Art galleries, sporting matches, food and wine festivals, historic museums, theatres, music, animation and film festivals are just some of the cultural activities you can experience.

Australia may be a young country but its indigenous inhabitants, the Australian Aborigines, have one of the longest-surviving cultures in the world. CSU’s regional campuses are located within the area occupied by nSw’s largest Aboriginal group, the wiradjuri. CSU acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which its campuses are located, paying respect to the elders, both past and present, and extending that respect to all indigenous Australians. travel opportunities within Australia are endless. from the tropical rainforests in queensland to the vast open deserts of the northern territory and the Snowy mountains of southern nSw, the Australian landscape has much to offer. due to its physical isolation from other countries, Australia is also home to many plants and animals that are not found anywhere else in the world, such as the

well-known kangaroo, which can often be seen in the grounds of CSU’s regional campuses.

"Living on campus has been fun, meeting new people. It’s great when I come home feeling really tired and seeing happy faces just lifts my mood. It’s also really convenient when you have an essay due and you're only 10 minutes' walk from all the resources. “I feel like my course is preparing me for the workforce. The lecturers are committed, friendly and very approachable, which makes studies a lot easier. We often have guest lecturers who share with us their experience in the dietetics field, giving us a broader understanding of what dietitians do.

"My first clinical placement provided me a great learning experience and it helped me know that I was on the right track. This has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life. I would truly recommend it.”

On campus accommodation

living on campus means living in a specially designed and managed residence on or near the campus. few universities in Australia can match the range of accommodation available at CSU's campuses. most of the University’s accommodation has the advantage of being situated close to your classes and campus facilities. living on campus at CSU offers all the facilities of a small village with the community spirit to match, helping you meet lots of new friends.

for more information, visit: www.csu.edu.au/

oncampus/accommodation/on-campus Catered (full-board)

Comfortable, single study-bedroom accommodation is available in the halls of residence. All full-board students can dine in a central dining room, or enjoy the flexibility of accessing meals at other outlets on campus. Student bedrooms are clean and comfortable, and all have telephone and internet access to allow you to communicate with the world from your room.

Semi-catered

the meal plan fee is included in the semi-catered accommodation package. the semi-catered plan includes five or 10 meals per week (depending on your package), 14 weeks per session. Students can choose different meal packages at multiple outlets across campuses.

Self-catered

if you need a little more flexibility, self-catered rooms are also available. these bedrooms are located in buildings that include a central common room and kitchen and other student-occupied bedrooms. Self-catered accommodation is popular with CSU students because the kitchen facilities allow students to prepare meals of their choice, according to their budget.

the Bathurst and wagga wagga campuses have their own mini-markets offering basic grocery items, or you can catch a bus into the campus city to go shopping. Students in self-catered accommodation are also welcome to buy meals in the central dining facilities, and there is a range of meal package options available.

what will be in my room?

you will have your own bedroom on campus, furnished with a bed, desk, chair,

cupboards, drawers and shelves. Bed linen, doona and pillows are also provided, with a linen exchange on a weekly basis. you may bring your own linen and launder it yourself if you prefer. you will also have a private telephone and data point in your room. rooms in self-catered accommodation have a bar-sized refrigerator.

what do I need to bring?

All self-catered areas have kitchens fitted with separate cupboard space for each resident, an oven or microwave, or a convection/microwave oven, a kettle and toaster. you will need to bring your own crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, pots and pans, tea towels and washing up items. in catered residences, where meals are provided in the dining hall, there are small kitchens with a kettle, toaster, fridge and microwave. what other facilities are available?

Common rooms are furnished with lounge chairs and a television, and some are connected to pay tv. All common rooms, kitchens and bathrooms are cleaned regularly. washing machines, dryers and clotheslines are available in every residence. All machines are operated using your student id card, and the cost is covered by the washing machine levy.

Moving to a country where the culture is different and you don’t know anybody

can seem a little overwhelming. One way of making this transition a little easier is

to choose to live on campus. You will be immersed in student life and will soon

make friends and feel at home.
