I Turn to You, Lord, in Time of Trouble,

And You Fill Me with the Joy of Salvation.

There is a particular preface (the prayer before we sing Holy, Holy, Holy)

that we can choose when we celebrate mass and are offering the mass for

various needs that is entitled, "Jesus Who Went about Doing Good."

Lately I have been inclined to use this beautiful preface when I

contemplate the gospel and think of the mercy of Jesus and his closeness

to us in our daily lives. There is a part that reads:

He always showed

compassion for children and for the poor, for the sick and for sinners, and he

became a neighbor to the oppressed and the afflicted. By word and deed he

announced to the world that you are our Father and that you care for all

your sons and daughters. I think that these words echo the actions of Jesus

in last week’s gospel and in this Sunday’s gospel.

There is no doubt "Jesus is merciful and He is with us." The almighty hand

of Jesus is upon us; he takes us by the hand and raises us up. He has the

power to heal us and restore our lives. If he did it for those who were in need

during biblical times, he is doing it for you today, for all of us. His mercy

sustains us.

Today's psalm is the plea of those who seek God's help in time of trouble. It

is a plea made in faith with the total certainty that he listens and stretches

out his powerful hand to rescue us. We have this faith in our heart. We are

those who come to him as the leper did in the gospel and request that he

heal us, free us, save us. He is not deaf to our cry and he will answer

mercifully. So let us come to his presence and as a faithful community let us

praise him and give homage to him, offering with generosity what we are

and have.

Jesus we trust in you!

May the Lord and the Blessed Mother bless you and keep you in his love

and grace.
