W ELCOME TO THE O LDEST C HURCH
IN THE D IOCESE OF F ALL R IVER
This church opens wide its doors to you. We hope that you feel at home and among friends. Our wish is that you might find your time among us prayerful, inspiring and uplifting.
If you are visiting, we are glad that you have joined us for worship. Enjoy your stay and come back soon! If you plan to make this area your permanent home, we ask that you make arrangements to formally register in the parish. Just speak to the pastor at the front door after Mass and he will welcome you personally.
If you have been away from the practice of the Faith, we rejoice that you have decided to be with us today. If you are a separated or divorced Catholic, especially know that you belong here just as much as the rest of us, no matter what you may have heard. Even if you are remarried, the Church may be able to annul your first marriage. Your present marriage can then be easily validated under most circumstances. If there is any way we
can be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to call upon the Parish Priest.
If you have no church family to call your own and are interested in this one, we are prepared to help you make that important decision.

PASTOR’S COLUMN Dear Friends:
It’s never too early to be thinking about Christmas! So in the spirit of the Season Saint Bernard’s Parish is hosting a trip to
New York City on Wednesday, December 11th. We will depart the church parking lot at approximately 7:00 a.m. making our way into the Big Apple for late morn- ing. We would aim for Rockefeller Plaza to see THE TREE and have lunch.
The highlight of the trip would be a 2:00 p.m. per- formance of the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular, then we would make our way over to St. Patrick’s Cathedral to view the newly renovated cathedral and to attend the 5:30 p.m. Mass.
We’d board the bus approximately 6:30 p.m. for an arrival back in Assonet between 11:30—midnight. The cost per person is $140.00 which includes the ticket for the show and bus fare. There are 50 seats availa- ble. Call the Parish Office for sign ups
Hope you can join us!

You are invited to take part in our Giving Tree Program once again this year. Tags will be on the tree beginning November 23

clothing, or a wish list of toys (the lists are merely suggestions and you may decide to purchase one or multiple items on the list). Follow the directions on the tag as to wrap or not wrap your gift.
We will also collect new baby
items for Birthright of Greater New Bedford. Please return all items with the tag attached no later than Sunday, Dec.8
that 11:30 am, so that we have time to inventory, sort and distribute them. This is always a popular activity during Advent and well supported.
We thank you in advance for your generosity. Any questions, please call KATHY at 508-644-3063.

On Wednesday November 27th at 7:00 p.m. all are invited to a PARISH FAMILY MASS OF THANKSGIVING. Wherever I’ve been assigned I have had the custom of inviting the parishioners to gather the eve before the holiday to celebrate the Eucharist before the busyness of football, pealing vegetables and setting tables. During the Mass some of our youngsters will dress up as “Pilgrims and Indians” to assist in the gath- ering of food items that you will be invited to bring to Mass. The food offerings will be given to Marie’s Place.
The Confirmation Class will assist in the Gospel narration of the
“Ten Lepers” - the Gospel for the Thanksgiving Mass. Also...breads will be blessed and distributed for your tables at home for your Thanks- giving meal. Then let’s plan to gather for coffee and goodies down in the hall to wish each other a Happy Thanksgiving. I’LL NEED HELP!!!
Some seamstresses to assist with costumes...some to wrap breads on that Wednesday. Please speak to me if you can help!!!- Fr. Jim
