Inserting and Formatting SmartArt Hands On Activity 4.3

What You Will Do Terry Blessing, president of First Choice Travel, has asked you to prepare a document containing information on the organizational structure of the company and a graphic that illustrates the services provided by First Choice Travel.

1

Begin with 4-FCTStructure-4-3-HOA open.

2

Move the insertion point a double space below the heading ORGANIZATIONAL CHART and then create the organizational chart SmartArt graphic shown in Figure 4.1. To begin, click the Insert tab and then click the SmartArt button in the Illustrations group.

3

At the Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box, click Hierarchy in the left panel and then double-click the first option in the middle panel, Organization Chart.

This displays the organizational chart in the document with the SmartArt Tools Design tab selected. Use buttons on this tab to add additional boxes, change the order of the boxes, choose a different layout, apply formatting with a SmartArt style, and reset the formatting of the organizational chart SmartArt graphic.

4

If a Type your text here window displays at the left of the SmartArt graphic, close it by clicking the Text Pane button in the Create Graphic group.

You can also close the window by clicking the Close button in the upper right corner of the window.

5

Delete the bottom right box in the graphic by clicking the border of the box to select it and then pressing the Delete key.

Make sure that the selection border that surrounds the box is a solid line and not a dashed line. If a dashed line displays, click the box border again to change it to a solid line.

6

With the bottom right box selected, click the Add Shape button arrow in the Create Graphic group on the SmartArt Tools Design tab and then click Add Shape Below.

Your organizational chart SmartArt graphic should contain the same boxes as shown in Figure 4.1.

7

Click the [Text] placeholder in the top box, type Terry Blessing, press the Enter key, and then type President. Click in each of the remaining boxes and type the text as shown in Figure 4.1. (Figure 4.1 shows the organizational chart as it will appear when all formatting has been applied.)

8

Click inside the SmartArt graphic border but outside any objects in the graphic.

This deselects the shape in the SmartArt graphic but keeps the graphic selected.
