Worship Notes
If you are tuning in to Cherry Creek, welcome and thank you for worshiping with us on this Sunday morning. Music for some songs are available to print at the end of this bulletin.
All Saints Sunday! As Christians from a Protestant heritage, especially on the heels of Reformation Sunday, we may be reticent to celebrate this his- toric day in the Church calendar year. We might be fearful that cele- brating saints who have gone before us verges on either a veneration or a mediation reserved for Christ alone (1 Timothy 2:5). But several thoughts should set us at ease.
First, the Bible urges us to be an historically-rooted people, aware and appreciative of our past and our heritage. The book of Deuter- onomy, as a whole, is just one place we can turn to find that.
Second, Scripture itself spends time remembering those who have gone before us in the faith. He- brews 11 is, in many ways, the Bible’s “hall of fame” of saints.
Third, we’ve probably inflated what
“saint” means beyond how the Bi- ble uses it. In Scripture, the term
“saint” is part of the same word- group as the words “holy” and
“sanctify.” “Saint” merely means,
“holy one,” or “one who is set apart.” As followers of Jesus, we all can say we are “saints,” not in the sense of being perfect or “holier-than- thou,” but in the sense of being set apart by God due to His grace and good pleasure.

Call to Worship & Invocation - from Rev 7:9-12
Leader: I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could number.
They were from every nation, tribe, people and language.
They were standing before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.
And they cried out with a loud voice:
People: Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!
Leader: All the angels fell facedown before the throne and worshipped God, saying:
People: Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever. Amen!

What is ordination all about? To some, ordination seems like a mere formality—a procedure accom- plished similar to what happens in business when someone is promot- ed to a higher position or when a politician is sworn into of-
fice. However, ordination is much more than ritual and symbolism.
The word “ordain” means, most simply, to authoritatively order something to happen. By saying that a minister is being “ordained”
into office, we are communicating that God has already set apart this person for the unique responsibility of being His representative to His people under Christ, the only Lord and Head of the Church. We also acknowledge that something pro- found occurs when elders lay hands on an individual to set him or her apart for such office. Let’s commit to pray for our newly installed minis- ter as well as all of our other or- dained clergy who have been set apart.

Prayer for the Week
As we lift up our leaders and our nation to the Lord, the following prayer by Fran Pratt expresses our hope and trust in this season:
Maker of All Things, we invite You now
into our feelings of discomfort, confusion, anger, fear, and worry over How Things are Going to Be.
We are reminded:
That Jesus did not resist the political regime of his time, but instead preached the Kingdom of God.
That Jesus did not condemn or punish,
but instead healed, fed, traveled, talked, and ate meals with people.
That Jesus did not worry,
but instead prayed when he was troubled.
We acknowledge that human leaders are flawed.
We acknowledge that human systems fall short.
We acknowledge that hardship is always present this side of eternity.
We acknowledge that Jesus will save the world.
Not a politician. Jesus.
Not a judge. Jesus.
Not a celebrity or even a pastor. Jesus.
We acknowledge that Jesus has already begun that work;
In us, with us, through us, Jesus is saving the world.
We acknowledge that the Kingdom of God is expanding, unstoppable.
We ask for Your Gracious Love.
We ask for wisdom and compassion.
We ask for strength and courage to do our best work for Your kingdom, work that will last.
We ask for goodness and mercy to follow us all the days of our lives.
We ask for our faith to grow.
We set aside worry; instead we take up grace and peace, which You offer abundantly.
We put our hope in Jesus Christ, and in His kingdom.
We give thanks that our future is safe in Your hands.
Amen

Songs for Worship
Psalm 62
Verse 1
My soul finds rest in God alone, my rock and my salvation;
A fortress strong against my foes, and I will not be shaken.
Though lips may bless and hearts may curse and lies like arrows pierce me, I'll fix my heart on righteousness; I'll look to Him who hears me.
Chorus
O praise Him! Hallelujah!
my Delight and my Reward, everlasting, never-failing:
my Redeemer, my God.
Verse 2
Find rest, my soul, in God alone amid the world's temptations.
When evil seeks to take a hold, I'll cling to my salvation.
Though riches come and riches go, don't set your heart upon them.
The fields of hope in which I sow are harvested in heaven.
Verse 3
I'll set my gaze on God alone and trust in Him completely;
with ev'ry day pour out my soul, and He will prove His mercy.
Though life is but a fleeting breath, a sigh too deep to measure, My King has crushed the curse of death and I am His forever.
Bridge
O praise Him, O praise Him, hallelujah, hallelujah!
Rock of Ages
Verse 1
Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood, from thy wounded side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure, save from wrath and make me pure.
Verse 2
Not the labors of my hands can fulfill thy law's demands;
Could my zeal no respite know, could my tears forever flow, All for sin could not atone; thou must save and Thou alone.
Verse 3
Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling;
Naked come to thee for dress, helpless, look to thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die!
Verse 4
While I draw this fleeting breath, when my eyes shall close in death, When I soar to worlds unknown, see Thee on thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, et me hide myself in Thee.
He Will Hold Me Fast
Verse 1
When I fear my faith will fail Christ will hold me fast
When the tempter would prevail He will hold me fast
I could never keep my hold Through life's fearful path For my love is often cold He must hold me fast
Chorus
He will hold me fast He will hold me fast For my Savior loves me so He will hold me fast
Verse 2
Those He saves are His delight Christ will hold me fast Precious in His holy sight He will hold me fast He'll not let my soul be lost His Promises shall last Bought by Him at such a cost He will hold me fast
Verse 3
For my life He bled and died Christ will hold me fast Justice has been satisfied He will hold me fast
Raised with Him to endless life He will hold me fast
Till our faith is turned to sight When He comes at last
Show Us Christ

You were their rock, their fortress and their might;
You, Lord, their captain throughout the well-fought fight;
And in the darkness drear, their one true light.
Alleluia! Allelu

O blest communion, O fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle, but they in glory shine;
Yet all are one, Lord, in your great design.
Alleluia! Allelu
Verse 4
But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day;
The saints triumphant all rise in bright array;
The King of Glory passes on His way.
Alleluia! Allelu
Verse 5
From earth’s wide bounds and ocean’s farthest coast, Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, Singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost:
Alleluia! Alleluia
