Recent Changes to CIS Program
1) Remove CSC 104 Intro to Computer Programming as a co-requisite for the CSC 202 Database Systems course.
2) Re-Number/Rename CSC 104 Intro to Computer Programming course to CSC 217 Computer Programming.
3) Remove the course CSC 235 Help Desk Internship from the CIS curriculum.
4) Students must take one 200 level CSC elective. They can choose one course from the following three CSC electives. Csc 215 Web Design and Programming or Csc 221 Intermediate Computer Programming or Csc 240 Networking II.

Difference between the CIS Degree and the Computer Science 2+2 degree
Computer Information Systems A.A.S. Degree (CIS)
The CIS degree is a broad based, hands on degree which covers a variety of different topics including the following:
• Computer Applications
• Computer Operating Systems
• Computer Hardware
• Database systems
• Computer Programming
• Computer Networking
Students who complete a degree in CIS would be qualified to work as entry level computer programmers, computer hardware repair technicians, network technicians, or custom software application designers. Although CIS is an A.A.S. degree we do have an articulation agreement with RIT. We also have pending articulation agreements with Canton, and Morrisville State College.
Computer Science 2+2 degree
The computer Science 2+2 degree is a much more focused than the CIS degree. It is also much more theoretical. Students will focus mainly on computer programming. Students will learn a variety of different programming languages. Students who complete this degree program will receive an A.S. degree in Liberal Arts Math & Science from CCC before they transfer over to SUNY Plattsburgh. After completing their four year degree at SUNY Plattsburgh these students will be qualified to work as computer programmers. Students in this degree program will be required to take several math classes such as Discrete Math I, Discrete Math II, Calculus I and Calculus II. Students who pursue this degree should have excellent math skills.
