IBM Customized Image
IBM custom image enables on-line platform management, including:
– Updating and configuring firmware – Platform diagnostics
– Enhanced hardware alerts
IBM custom image provides CIM providers and drivers from:
– Broadcom – Emulex – Brocade – LSI
With the customized image IBM ToolsCenter UpdateXpress System Packs
Installer can be used to upgrade ESXi system, or to update firmware of IMM,
uEFI, pDSA and FPGA. IBM ToolsCenter Dynamic System Analysis can be
used to get information of the IBM IMM and other hardware devices.
Image Use Cases
Optimized for IBM System x Servers IBM image
– Can be downloaded from the IBM Site
– Can be purchased with an IBM USB key (preloaded w/ the IBM customized image) – Can purchase the IBM blank USB key and download the customized image or use
their own image
– A new image is released for every update (ex: 4.1u3), minor version (ex: 4.1.x) and major version (ex: 5.0).
IBM Providers
– IBM developed providers for each version are delivered via FixCentral after each delivery of an image
– IBM Providers can be added to an existing ESXi server IBM Patch
– IBM releases a Patch for the IBM image quarterly if required Image URL: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/x/os/vmware/

IBM Upward Integration
Module
IBM Upward Integration for VMware vSphere is a plug-in for the VMware vSphere management environment.
IBM Upward Integration for VMware vCenter enables powerful platform management for IBM System x, BladeCenter, and Flex System servers through VMware vCenter
UIM Provides an integrated entry for IBM servers in VMware vSphere management environment. Customer can continue to use familiar VMware vCenter as their management console.

1. IBM Upward Integration Installer
2. IBM Upward Integration License Installer
For VMware vCenter 5.1 and above, you can choose to access the plug-in with vSphere client or vSphere Web client (Recommended)
IBM Upward Integration License Installer
The License Installer allows users to perform the license registration process on
management servers in your Infrastructure. Which provides all premium IBM Upward Integration functionality that is only available to licensed users after 90 day trial expires.
The License Installer comes with a command-line Windows utility that performs the primary licensing functions after installed, which are:
– adding a license entitlement to the local management server.
– querying the current license entitlement state of the local management server – removing a license entitlement from the local management server

Cluster Level Management
Cluster Overview
Collects and analyzes cluster inventory information and health status to assist with the operation and management of the hosts and the cluster
• Provides a snapshot view of the cluster including the total number of IBM hosts and non-IBM hosts, overall health status of the IBM hosts, resource usage of disk, memory, cpu etc.
• Provides basic information of the cluster hosts, host access status and IMM access information
IMM discovery
Provides out of band (OOB) management of your IBM servers using IMMv2 on the vSphere web client
Rolling System Update
Non-disruptive system update which automate vMotion driven host evacuation prior to installing the update to avoid workload downtime:
1. Put the system in maintenance mode and evacuate all VMs to other available hosts in the cluster via vMotion
2. Update firmware and restart to take effect
3. Take the host out of maintenance mode to accept VMs
4. Process is repeated for the next system until all systems have been updated. vCenter API virtual machine virtual machine virtual machine vCenter/UIM

Firmware update
RAS integration
Automate workload evacuation in response to Predicted Failure event via vMotion
A physical system hosting VMware virtual servers issues a predictive failure analysis event which is received by UIM
UIM responds with an admin defined automation plan for the affected virtual servers
The plan automatically migrates the virtual servers from the failing server by calling vMotion ESXi virtual server ESXi virtual server ESXi virtual server PFA vCenter/UIM vCenter API

Host Level Management
Dashboard
The Dashboard displays an overview of the host status including:
• Basic System Information • System Health Summary
Collects system diagnostic data
System Information (Dynamic System Analysis)
Dynamic System Analysis collects and analyzes system information to aid in diagnosing system problems, collected information includes:
• Hardware inventory
• Vital product data and firmware information • Installed applications and hot fixes
• Device drivers and system services • Network interfaces and settings
Events & Alerts
The Events and Alerts function collects System Health information and displays hardware events and power throttling alerts:
• Support all hardware events including PFA • Support power throttling alerts
Firmware update
The firmware update function applies firmware updates to your ESXi system:
• Support online firmware update
• Support both IBM UXSP and individual firmware update • Support firmware update from IBM site and local repository
Power & Cooling management
The Advanced System Settings provides the ability to view and change the current system settings on the host :
• Monitor the power consumption, thermal, and fan speed and show trending information • Power capping sets the upper limit of power consumption
• Power throttling allows you to receive warning or critical alerts when power consumption exceeds the values you set
Predictive failure management
Automate relocation of virtual workloads in response to predicted host system failures without disruption:
• Support setting management policy based on predictive hardware failure • Support 4 predictive failure alert coving power supply, hard disk and sensor
• Automatically evacuate VMs from the server in response to predictive failure to protect workload • View predictive failure alerts from the server and the triggered policy history
Advanced System Setting
The Advanced System Settings provides the ability to view and change the current system settings on the host :
• Support online system setting
