From the Principal…
Dear Parents/Carers
This is the last newsletter for the term. Report cards will come home at the end of the term. Take the opportunity to talk to
your child/ren about their results and the next steps in their learning. The effort result is as important as the achievement result. Enjoy the two weeks rest and be safe.
Attendance
With the colder weather and the importance of staying home when unwell, our attendance is lower than usual. The average attendance for the whole year is 90.5% with almost 8.8% of students in the lowest category of attendance. Beside illness, students must be at school every day. Attendance is a predictor of academic achievement. Our data below shows the daily attendance. Monday and Friday appear to be the days with the most absenteeism. Your child’s attendance indicator will be emailed along with their report card at the end of Term. Every day counts.
Student achievement
Congratulations to Iverson for his selection in the Metropolitan rugby team competing in the State Championships. We wish him all the best.
Sports Days
Next Monday, Tuesday (Senior) and Thursday (Junior) we will be holding the Senior and Junior sports days. Parents are welcome to attend. All students must remain with their teachers and in their houses. Students are asked to wear their sports-coloured shirts for the events.
Uniforms
Again, I bring to your attention the correct wearing of the school uniform. Hoodies, coloured jumpers, and coloured shoes are not part of the school uniform. Over the school holidays, please ensure that your child/ren have the correct uniform. Follow the link to the website for all the details: https://runcornss.eq.edu.au/SupportAndResources/FormsAndDocuments/Documents/2020/Unif orm%20Policy.pdf#search=uniform.
Parent Workshops
Each Term we offer parent workshops based on the priorities of the school. To date we have had workshops on reading, speech language development, inquiry, code of conduct and student leadership. Thank you to our very engaged parent community who join us for these sessions. The conversations and questions are thought provoking.

Events Calendar on Page 5
I encourage more parents to come to our information sessions. They are announced in the newsletter ahead of time. Thank you to the presenters.
School Annual Report
The 2020 annual report is now published on the school website. School Opinion Survey
The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted in Term 3 and will close on 30 July 2021. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5, 6, 8 and 11) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.
An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one Parent/Caregiver per family in the week beginning 5 July. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2021. Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone.
Parents/Caregivers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to complete their survey online at the school. School computers/tablets will be available.
Religious Instruction - Islam
From Term 3, we wish to advise that we will be offering Islamic religious instruction. Classes for Christianity, Bahai’i and Sikh will continue as per usual. These classes take place on Mondays, 2:00pm. If you have indicated Islam as your nominated religion on your child’s enrolment form, they will be most welcome to attend. If you have any queries, please contact the school office. Well Done Strings
From the Deputy Principal…
Runcorn State School Introduction of Schoolzine
If you have not already, please return the green Third Party Consent for Schoolzine form to school. We are introducing a new electronic communication platform called Schoolzine. This platform is responsive across mobile devices, tablets and desktops and will provide the school with an increased number of features to improve our electronic communication to a greater number of families.
This platform will enable the school to: • Send email and SMS
• Build, publish and distribute eNewsletters that include links to photos, galleries and video links
• Custom eForms for Camps and Excursions with digital signatures • Dynamic calendar and events
• Send spot polls and surveys
• Google translate - 100 languages at the click of a button
• Integrate with social media, school portals, payment portals and more.
PLEASE BE AWARE that the Schoolzine platform will replace the current newsletter distribution system and so those that do not give Third Party Consent for Schoolzine will need to access the school newsletter from the website.
Roberta Matlock
From the Teaching & Learning Coach…
Semester One Report CardsAfter a busy semester of learning, teachers are currently assessing and writing our end of semester report cards. Semester One report cards will cover the achievement and effort of all learning areas. These reports will also include an overall and behaviour comment.
The overall achievement in each learning area studied in the reporting period will be awarded a level of achievement from the following range:
✓ Applying/Very High/A: Evidence in the student's work typically demonstrates a sophistication of conceptual understanding and skills from the standard that are able to be transferred to new situations.
✓ Making Connections/High/B: Evidence in the student’s work typically demonstrates a developing sophistication of conceptual understanding and skills from the standard and these are beginning to be transferred to new situations.
✓ Working within/Sound/C: Evidence in a student's work typically demonstrates that they have developed the required conceptual understandings and skills to meet the standard and are able to apply them in familiar situations.
✓ Exploring/Developing/D: Evidence in the student's work typically demonstrates that they are still developing the required conceptual understandings and skills from the standard and that they are beginning to be applied in familiar situations.
✓ Becoming Aware/Support Required/E: Evidence in the student's work typically demonstrates that the student has not yet developed the required understanding and skills to meet the standard and that they can only apply them in scaffolded situations.
All report cards will be sent home electronically via email in the last week of this term. Please make sure your most current email address has been updated with the front office to ensure your child’s report card is sent to the correct place.

From the Admin Team…
Cashless SchoolThe school is now a cashless school. Our preferred methods of payment are BPoint and Direct Transfer.
Student Resource Scheme (SRS) 2021
Thank you to those parents who have already sent through payments. If you participate in this scheme, your students will receive resources provided by the school and they will have access to these for the school year. If you wish to pay the scheme in instalments, please contact the office to arrange a payment plan. If you do not wish to participate in this scheme, forms still need to be signed and returned and parents will need to provide the necessary items.
Medical Conditions
If you have indicated upon enrolment that your child has certain medical conditions, the school will require prescribed medication as well as an accompanying health action plan tailored to the child. If you require any further information, please contact the school office.
Administering Medication
If your child requires to receive medication during school hours, our First Aid staff are happy to assist, however due to Departmental procedures, we will require medical authorisation from a prescribing health practitioner (ie doctor, dentist, optometrist but not a pharmacist), including those medicines bought over-the-counter (including paracetamol or alternative medicines). Also, the form “Administration of medication at school record sheet” Section 1 must also be completed and signed by the parent/carer and submitted with the medication.
The medication container must have a valid pharmacy label which includes the name of the prescribing health practitioner, to confirm that it is prescription medication. The student must have received a dose at home without any ill effects prior to the school staff administering the medication.
For a copy of this Departmental procedure or for more information, please speak with our friendly office staff.

Food Trucks will provide a range of food and drinks for sale.
We warmly invite students and their families to join one of our 3 stages on the night to share their cultural dance, instrumental or singing performances to celebrate our wide cultural diversity. Instrumental Music Recruitment
The selection process for the 2022 Strings (2022 Year 3s) and Band (2022 Year 4s) Program is commencing shortly for our current Year 2 and Year 3 students. This process includes an aural aptitude test held in Music class (Selmer Listening test), Expression of Interest and consultation with classroom teachers.
Places are always limited for our Instrumental Music program and are based on allocation numbers from the Department of Education and vacancies after our Year 6s leave for High School. If there is interest in starting an instrument it may be a good idea to discuss at home the commitment it takes in regard to practice and discipline. An information evening will be held in Mid-Term 3 and the date will be advised once confirmed.

N rman’s News
Thanks so much to everyone who has made me feel so welcome at Runcorn and who has been so understanding as I discover many new sights, sounds and students around the school. I always go home from my new job very tired and my family hear me snoring all night long! There’s just so many interesting things to learn when you’re a puppy.
Over the next few weeks I will continue to come into school for just a few hours at a time. Please always ask Mrs Schooth if you can pat me, hopefully that will be okay. I am starting to feel comfortable with you all, but Mrs Schooth will just need to make sure that there’s not too many people reaching out to touch me as that might make me feel a little bit scared. I have been very lucky to have been offered some veterinary support from Vetlove Kuraby and I am grateful that they will be looking after me and making sure I am always healthy and ready for work! Thank you also to Paws Only Grooming Salon Spa & Boutique who have also kindly offered to keep me looking my best. I will be going to Puppy Preschool with them during June and July and I hope to make some more friends there too!
I will look forward to seeing you around school and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask Mrs Schooth. With much tail-wagging,
Norman

Events Wrap UpWe are running a Coffee and Cake stall for the Junior Sports Day Thursday 24 June 2021. This

contact Ashley via email [email protected]
To purchase your membership, please follow this link: https://www.entertainment.com.au/orderbooks/223k202. 20% of each sale will go towards improving our amazing school.

Student Banking…
The Queensland Government has decided to discontinue school banking programs in Queensland government schools from 31 July 2021. As a result, the CommBank School Banking program will no longer operate at our school after the end of this term. If you are unsure of other methods of depositing to your child’s account, please feel free to contact the Bank’s general enquiries hotline on 13 2221 or alternatively visit your local CommBank branch.

PCYC
Outside School Hours Care
The PCYC are the approved providers at our school. OSHC operate in the school premises both morning and afternoon. Our enrolment process is all online and we use QK enrol. If you are interested in enrolling your child, please email the service the following information: your full name, home address and mobile number. From there, the Coordinator puts through this information into QKenrol, a link will then be sent to your email address and you will need to fill out an enrolment form for each child and submit them. Once this is completed and the Coordinator accepts the enrolment, the booking process will begin. Once booked in, the service will then ask you to come in for an orientation before your first session. After you have been booked in, you can use the app ‘MyFamily lounge’ to control your bookings and to make casual bookings.
We are licenced for 75 children before and after school care. This availability also varies depending on staffing arrangements. During Vacation care we are still licenced for 75, however numbers are capped depending on the demand for the day.
We currently do not have a waiting list. Waiting lists are put through QKenrol. If you were on a waiting list, you would remain on the waiting list until a permanent spot opens for your desired session. Once one does, the service will accept the booking and you will be notified via email. The waiting list is prioritised by first in first served
.
