Expectations
Students should arrive to school prepared with pens, pencils, paper, and appropriate workbooks for class.
Virtual students should be prepared as well during their
virtual meetings. Log in on time to each Google Meet. Students should have a pen/pencil, paper,
workbook, and other required materials during the meet.
*Mr Hodge requires that students bring their workbook everyday to his class
Both face-to-face and virtual students are required to participate. .

Attendance
vRequirements for attendance is that students cannot miss more than 10 days from school. This includes all unexcused absences and suspensions.
vParents or guardians may be fined up to $100, or
imprisoned for up to 30 days, or may be ordered to do community service if their child misses more than 10
unexcused school days.
Truancy protocol was provided to you at the beginning of the school year.

Requirements
❑State Policy (The Georgia Department of Education requires eighth graders to score on the proficient level (level 3) on the Georgia
Milestones End of Grade Assessment)
❑Local Policy (The local board policy requires eighth graders to pass ALL of their core
subjects (math, ELA, science & social studies) with a grade of 70 or better in order to be

Levels
The four achievement levels on the Georgia Milestones are Beginning
Learner, Developing Learner, Proficient Learner, and Distinguished Learner. The general meaning of each of the four levels is provided
below:
oBeginning Learners do not yet demonstrate proficiency in the
knowledge and skills necessary at this grade level/course of
learning, as specified in Georgia’s content standards. The students
need substantial academic support to be prepared for the next
grade level or course and to be on track for college and career readiness.
oDeveloping Learners demonstrate partial proficiency in the
knowledge and skills necessary at this grade level/course of
learning, as specified in Georgia’s content standards. The students
need additional academic support to ensure success in the next
grade level or course and to be on track for college and career readiness.
oProficient Learners demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge
and skills necessary at this grade level/course of learning, as
specified in Georgia’s content standards. The student are prepared for the next grade level or course and are on track for college and career readiness.
oDistinguished Learners demonstrate advanced proficiency in
the knowledge and skills necessary at this grade level/course of learning, as specified in Georgia’s content standards. The students
are well prepared for the next grade level or course and are well
Lexile Levels
By the end of the year, an 8th grade student should have a Lexile Level of
at least 1185 or better and upon graduating, the Lexile Level should be at least 1385.
The higher the Lexile measure the higher the student’s reading level.

Georgia Milestones
End of Grade Test

8th Graders will be
administered ELA, Math, Science, & Social Studies
❖All students will take the EOG online.
❖Terrell County testing window is April 19th – April 30th
Media Fines
•If media fines are not paid by the end of the school year (Middlegrade 8), students will not be able to register for the upcoming year at the feeder school in the system nor will records be released.
•Returning Your Chromebook: Students must return mobile
device and all accessories at the end of the school year or when transferring out of a school or district. Mobile device and all
accessories must be in good working order and free from physical damage. If you are missing any part of the mobile device package (including the cards), you will be assessed a replacement fee of
$100 for the Dell device package or $200 for the HP device
package. These fees will assist with the repairs for the
device. Payments accepted in cash, money order, or cashier check.
Individual Graduation Plans (IGP)
oAll 8th graders must complete a graduation plan prior to entering the 9th grade.
oThis plan consists of the courses your child will take in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade.
oDue to the Pandemic after each student complete their IGP they will receive a copy in their school assigned email account.
oThe plan your child creates will be a provisional plan therefore their plan my change each year.
oBefore completing their graduation plan 8th grade students will complete an aptitude
assessment in which we will use their results to assist students in picking a CTAE pathway.

vWhat is dual enrollment?
The purpose of the Dual Enrollment program is to promote and increase access to postsecondary educational opportunities for Georgia high school students while increasing high school graduation rates, preparing a skilled workforce, and
decreasing time and cost to postsecondary credential completion.
