●If the merchant swipes initially the
chip card through magnetic stripe
reader instead of inserting into the chip reader, the terminal will display the following messages: Error - Use
chip reader and Press a Key.
Insert the card into the chip reader located in the bottom of the terminal.

●The terminal will read the chip card and some messages will be displayed.
●In the top of the terminal screen will be displayed the options available in the customer’s card for processing the transaction (Ex. VISA, M/C, VISA Debit, Maestro, etc.). If more than one option is presented, the customer will select the choice of preference. It may be the chip card has only one option of processing. The options will depend on how the chip card was issued by the financial institution. ●The transaction processing will continue as usual.
●In this example the transaction will be processed as debit.

If no state tax applies, press number zero (0) key and ENTER.

●If the processing option selected was debit, the customer will enter the PIN number on the terminal or external PIN pad and will press ENTER.
Note:
●If the terminal is not accessible for the customer to enter the PIN number; the transaction must be cancelled and the merchant must request another method of payment. ●Examples of this type of scenario:
The terminal is located in a gas station booth and the customer does not have access to it to enter the PIN number.
The terminal is located under a counter and the customer cannot access that area to enter the PIN number.
Any other place where the customer cannot access the terminal to enter the PIN number.
●In this example the transaction will be processed as debit.
●If selected credit as processing option, the terminal will request the entry of the last four (4) last digits of the card.
