Prerequisites
To setup SocialMediaBox and connect successfully to social networks, you need to meet the requirements, listed below. For Facebook:
You must have a valid personal Facebook account.
You must have a valid mobile phone number to add to your Facebook account. You must register as a Facebook Developer – there are no charges for the registration.
You must register a Facebook Application to connect to your SocialMediaBox installation – there are no charges for the registration. For Twitter:
You must have a valid personal Twitter account.
You must register a Twitter Application to connect to your SocialMediaBox installation – there are no charges for the registration. NOTE: Without the prerequisites for Facebook/Twitter setup, only RSS feeds can be configured
Creating a Facebook Developer Account
To register as a Facebook Developer, you need a regular Facebook account and a mobile phone number for verification. Sign in with your account and do the following:1. Go to https://developers.facebook.com/. Click My Apps, and then click Register as a Developer. A popup dialog will appear where you have to re-enter your facebook password, then click Submit.
2. In the Register as a Facebook Developer dialog, click to toggle between Yes/No and accept the Facebook Policies, then click Next.
3. Enter a valid mobile phone number, then click Send as text to receive a text message with the confirmation code. When you get the message, enter the 6-digit confirmation code in the field below, then click register. A confirmation window will open – click Done to complete the registration and close it.
As a registered Facebook developer you have access to some additional options, like adding Facebook applications, which is a basic requirement for a successful SocialMediaBox setup and is explained in detail further in this guide.
ADDITIONAL ACCOUNT SETTINGS
The Facebook Platform has to be enabled in order to successfully integrate and use SocialMediaBox. The Platform is enabled by default. If you have disabled it, you will have to turn it back on.
NOTE: You will have to do the same for each user account, which will be linked with SocialMediaBox
1. Log on to Facebook and go to Facebook Settings > Apps. 2. Under Apps, websites and plug-ins, click Edit.
Registeringa Facebook Application
1. On the https://developers.facebook.com/ home screen, click My Apps, and then click Add a New App. You will be prompted to select the app type – click Website.
2. In the Quick Start editor for Websites that opens, you will be prompted to enter an app name. Click Skip and Create App ID in the top-right corner of the dialog instead. In the following dialog, enter a Name of the application in the Display Name field (e.g. SMB), you may skip the Namespace field because it isn’t significant. Choose a matching category (e.g. Entertainment) from the drop-down Category menu, then click Create App ID. You will have to fill in a CAPTCHA code in order to proceed. You will be redirected to the application’s dashboard.
3. From the application dashboard, copy the application’s App ID and App Secret to a safe location. These are required to complete the SocialMediaBox installation.
4. In the app menu to the left, click Settings. In the Settings window, add a valid Contact Email address (mandatory), then click Add platform in order to point your app to the address of the server where SocialMediaBox is installed.
5. In the Select Platform dialog click Website.
7. In the Settings window click the Advanced tab, then go to the second section bellow – App Restrictions. Find the Social Discovery button and click to toggle between Yes/No. Thus, you will disable receiving advertisement.
8. In the app menu to the left, click Status & Review. In the Status & Review window, click to toggle between Yes/No and make the app available to the public. In the dialog that follows, click Confirm
Registeringa Twitter Application
To integrate SocialMediaBox with Twitter, you have to add a Twitter application. To register as a Twitter Developer, you need a regular Twitter account and a mobile phone number for verification. If you are unfamiliar with Twitter applications, follow t he steps below.
1. Go to apps.twitter.com, sign in with your personal account and click Create New App.
2. Enter your application’s Name (e.g. SocialMediaBox), Description and Website. Read and accept the Developer Rules of the Road, then click Create your Twitter application.
3. The following screen contains details about the newly created application. Navigate to the Keys and Access Tokens tab and copy the application’s Consumer key and Consumer secret to a safe location.
4. On the Keys and Access Tokens tab, click Create my access token and copy the application’s Access token and Access token secret to a safe location.
TIP: It is recommendatory to create a separate application for each TV channel in SocialMediaBox in order not to surpass the limit of maximum sessions in a channel
