Migration Checklist

It’s best to have a checklist to be sure that everything is planned and ready to go come migration day. Below is a brief list of tasks/ considerations to keep in mind when planning a migration. Although this list is far from complete, it does give you a high level over-view of some of the most basic tasks involved with planning a migration.

Do you have administrative access to the server, ftp access or some type of access to your website files? Do you know what the type of database server that your website is using?

Do you have remote access to your database server? If not, can you obtain recent backups of your database? Do you know what technologies your websites are using (php, asp.net, asp, just html) and what versions?

Do you know what type of webserver your websites are running on, what version and are they using any third party tools? Is your site secured with ssl (https), if so can you generate new certificates or purchase a new one?

Do you have access to change your websites DNS entries to point your sites to the new servers? Do you have email associated with your websites that need to be migrated?

We offer you the ability to create domain level backups for version control and we provide disaster recovery backup of domain and configuration settings of your account. Backup data is stored on a storage system that is separated from the storage system for live data for disaster recovery backup.

SnapBackup™

The Virtuozzo control panel offers you the ability to create image backups of the entire server. This is distinct and different from the backups in Plesk, which can back up individual domains and clients. An image backup backs up the entire VPS into one image, inclusive of all operating system files, databases, passwords, files, do-mains, etc. This can not be automated and must be done manually by logging into Virtuozzo. It is located on the hardware node and outside the VPS and cannot be downloaded to your computer.

FTP Self-Serve Backups are for do-it-yourself types and allow you to backup domain level files to a remote loca-tion on our network. We offer a discounted low-cost backup oploca-tions where storage is metered, and capped with small allocation for overage. Backups must be manually configured by the customer, as we does not con-figure backup routines for FTP backup customers.
