KEITH ZARS POOLS
10 STEPS TO YOUR DREAM POOL
17427 SAN PEDRO AVE | 210.494.0800 | KEITHZARSPOOLS.COM
STEP 1: WHY DO I WANT MY POOL?
THINGS TO CONSIDER/MOTIVATON
It would make my backyard and home look better.
It would be a great place to entertain family and friends.
It would keep the kids at home, playing outside, and having fun.
It would provide a great way to stay healthy and exercise.
It would be an outstanding way to relax after work.
I've always wanted a pool and this is a gift for me.
For example, if your primary motivation is to entertain your children or grandchildren, then a "lap pool" may not be an ideal choice. If "exercise" is a priority, then you'll want to pay extra attention to overall length and depth of the pool. If
"relaxation" and "fun" is important, than adding a sun shelf, slide, or a great water feature might be perfect for you.
Once you know what you what you want, then you can take a deeper look at pool styles.
STEP 2: WHAT'S
MOST IMPORTANT
TO ME? Advanced Technology Beauty\Style\Design Builder's Reputation Ease of Maintenance Energy- Efficiency
Financing Options Low Price
Quality of Workmanship Safety
Warranty
It's easy to say "everything!"
Try to list your top 3!
STEP 3: WHAT'S MY STYLE?
FREEFORM OR LINEAR
Linear Pool Freeform Pool
Clean Straight Lines
Combination of Geometric shapes Modern waterfalls and fire features
LINEAR: Modern, Contemporary, Formal Smooth flowing curves and natural lines Flagstone\Natural stone decking
Natural looking waterfalls, grottos, water slides, and other features FREEFORM: Natural, Fluid
The next factor you have to consider is the shape and design of the pool. Some people prefer pools with curves, while others prefer something linear. When determining the shape of the pool, you have to take into account the size and shape of your yard. Sometimes a curved or straight line works best in your yard.
STEP 4: WHAT SIZE & DEPTH DO I WANT MY POOL & WHAT OTHER AMENITIES SHOULD I CONSIDER?
The size of the pool is important. It affects what activities can occur with the pool, the appearance of your outdoor space and what other elements you can incorporate into the space. As you try to determine what size of pool you want, the first thing you will want to do is determine what the pool will be used for. This will also help in deciding the depth profile.
Next, determine what else you might want in your outdoor space. Will you be adding an outdoor patio, built- in kitchen, fire pit, playscape, etc. You have to determine how much space you have to construct these
items or build knowing that other amenities will follow later. Running gas lines, or sleeves for electrical and water should be included in the plan to avoid tearing up landscape or decking at a later date.
Third, consider how many people will be using the pool both now and into the future. You can't alter the size of a pool once it's built, so base the size of the pool on what you need now and in the future.
Lastly, you can't put a pool directly on your property line, so take into account setbacks along the property line when planning your backyard oasis!
STEP 5: "OOH, I LOVE THAT..."
GET INSPIRED!

STEP 6: WHAT DO MY
FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY?
GET REFERENCES AND EXPERIENCES
It can also be extremely helpful to talk to any
neighbors who have gone through the experience of building a swimming pool in your neighborhood. This can provide valuable insights that will help you get
your dream pool.
Also, check out reviews on Google and Facebook. The company should have plenty of reviews for you to look through to determine their reputation in the
community and the quality of their work.
WHERE CAN I GET A LOAN FOR A SWIMMING POOL?
PERSONAL LOAN VS. HOME EQUITY
SWIMMING POOL LOAN: THINGS TO CONSIDER Online Lenders
Banks
Credit Unions
Loan rates, terms and features vary by lender, so it’s best to compare multiple options. Online lenders allow you to pre-qualify to see rates and terms with no impact to your credit score, and funding can be faster. But you may get a lower rate from your bank.
If you do not have enough equity in your home, a personal loan might be the option for you. There are fewer up-front fees, faster time to funding, and less risk.
If you have equity in your home, then you will most likely qualify for lower rates and may have tax benefits.
Approval based on credit
Research your best lender option for your financial situation (we can help with this!)
Pre-approval will give you a realistic budget and assurance the project can move forward.
STEP 7: WHAT IS MY BUDGET/WILL I
NEED TO FINANCE?
STEP 8: HOW WILL I MAINTAIN MY POOL?
Ah, maintenance. Heaters, chemicals, pumps, pool cleaners, filters, and test kits...maintaining your investment properly is important.
Are you up for the time commitment and monthly costs of maintaining your pool? Can you afford to hire a monthly pool maintenance service to do the work for you?
Maintaining your investment is part of pool
ownership, so you can enjoy your oasis for years to
come!
STEP 9: HOW DO I CHOOSE MY POOL BUILDER?
How long have they been in business?
How many pools have they built?
What is there reputation?
Are they Certified Pool Builders by the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals?
Do they have a Service and Maintenance department?
Do they provide a warranty on the pool and equipment?
Are they insured?
Do they have a showroom and on-site display pools for you to
see?
STEP 10: HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE FIRST MEETING?
The designer will come out to your property to measure the space, take grades and elevations, and discuss what you want in your pool/backyard design.
If there are two people making that decsion, then make sure that both of you are going to be there.
Have your ideas ready, photos of pools you like or any features you might be considering.
Set aside enough time for the meeting by planning for an hour to an hour and a half for the designer to be there to gather all the necessary information.
Have a copy of your survey for your property so any easements and other issues can be addressed. This could affect the size and location of the pool.
Let the designer know if you have an HOA or will need permitting.
