SUMMARY:
Under the direction of an assigned information systems manager, supervise, plan, evaluate, select and install computers and related hardware and software throughout the District; analyze, re-design and modify existing systems software as needed to improve efficiency or correct deficiencies; supervise, develop and maintain system software required to support the programming staff and user community; provide technical assistance to the programming, operations, and computer repair staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ensure the availability and optimum performance of the production, development, library computer systems, capacity planning, planning and migration to new/upgraded systems, and configuration management.
Design and manage systems that support forms management; student e-mail account generation and maintenance.
Plan, design, implement and manage procedures that include room fire suppression and alarm systems; offsite storage of backup tapes; data integrity of complex interrelated/stand-alone systems, backup/recovery.
Supervise and establish procedures to support and provide maintenance for hardware, software, network and telecommunications systems.
Provide backup support for the Technical Services Manager and direction as needed for District staff and technical support staff deployed across the two colleges.
Supervise complex computer operations, configuration planning, vendor coordination and scheduling, and software/hardware/network upgrades.
Supervise the daily operation of hardware that includes: District desktop computers for faculty and staff, servers, local/remote printers, and other peripherals.
Establish controls and methods to assure accuracy, security and compliance with established procedures; develop and configure system security measures to prevent unauthorized access to the computer system and databases.
Develop comprehensive testing procedures to assure that all system software functions efficiently and accurately.
Train and provide work direction to the computer operations staff, student assistants and other personnel as assigned; participate in the selection of staff and assign and review the work of others.
Maintain current knowledge of computer equipment, systems and technology; attend meetings,
seminars and symposiums related to computer hardware, and software.
Ensure the proper creation and storage of backup media for the HP production, development, library and network servers used by administrative computer users.
Maintain a library of support software essential to the operation of computer equipment and application systems and programs.
Communicate and schedule vendors and district personnel to exchange technical information, schedule installations, user training, and monitor the availability of system software.
Evaluate and make recommendations regarding the selection, scheduling and installation of computers, network and related systems.
Prepare a variety of internal reports, records, documentation, specifications and other materials related to the District's computer software systems.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
Plan and install administrative application servers, network servers, peripheral equipment, communication equipment, network/local printers, and personal computer hardware and software.
Analyze, formulate, recommend and implement solutions to complex systems hardware and software problems.
Install and update new/existing system software required to maintain an effective and reliable computer system.
Supervise and assist in the performance evaluation and selection of full-time staff in computer operations and at the District help desk.
Supervise, evaluate performance and select part-time and student employees.
Analyze, design, write, test and implement programs for the automation of internal operations in a multiple operating systems environment; monitor and adjust structures and parameters.
Write and implement procedures to ensure the reliable/response access and support of the GCCCD Student Instructional System, local software modules, desktop applications, class schedule/roster uploads, ID card systems, security of network and servers, virus protection and eradication, and Cold Storage.
Maintain operating system and support software to efficiently utilize available resources; use systems to measure the performance of the operating system.
Document and formalize standards and procedures relating to the interfacing of computers and peripheral equipment.
Prepare detailed procurement specifications such as request for bids on computer and related equipment.
Program, configure and operate a variety of computers and related equipment including
mainframes, microcomputers, servers, personal computers, tape and disk drives, and communication equipment.
Design, develop, and maintain a computer system to monitor the current inventory and future requirements of printable forms used by the various computer systems; work with the
programming staff and department representatives in the design and procurement of forms used by the data center.
Design, develop and maintain macros and programs used in the conversion of staff personal computers to new and improved platforms.
Manage and perform system administration of the District's development, production, and library platforms.
Maintain departmental area(s) in a safe, clean and orderly condition; assure compliance with established safety procedures and regulations.
Install, test, troubleshoot and perform adjustments to a variety of equipment including servers, desktop computers, and peripherals.
Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Increasingly responsible experience in systems software programming on various servers including mainframe, minicomputers, workstations and PCs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Information Systems environment subject to lifting up to 50 pounds, moving and installing
information technology equipment. Multiple shift environment.
