Who are we!

Devon Academy opened in 2004 and is well established as one of the best complementary therapy schools

specialising in massage training in the UK and has earned itself an excellent reputation in the industry. We have a

small but enthusiastic and passionate team some of whom have been practicing massage therapists for over twenty

nine years. We teach some of the most thorough massage techniques in the industry which will set you ahead of the

competition from the very beginning. ITEC massage courses are recognized worldwide and are thought to be the

best training to undertake. Our fast track and intensive courses are suitable for men and women of all ages and walks

of life with no previous experience necessary, just a willingness to learn and put in the effort.

We teach the whole syllabus in an intensive, innovative but fun way and most of our students achieve a merit or

distinction and to date we have successfully maintained 100% pass rate for 10 years. Intensive does not mean we cut

corners or syllabus content, it just means that we are really good at bringing the best out of our students in a short

space of time so that they can focus on developing their skills unhindered by doubt and lack of confidence. Our

practical classes are small, so that we can offer each individual advice and support!

New online distance elearning now at Devon Academy for the Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology course as

well as Massage; and Aromatherapy theory. Our practical sessions will then focus on bringing the theory

alive and polishing your massage techniques.

Director and Principal

- Gail Lowe

Gail is a successful massage therapist with over 29

year’s industry experience. Disillusioned

with both general and psychiatric nursing which were not the holistic

“hands on” profession she

hoped it would be, she initially trained with Prof: Arnold Taylor, founder of ITEC and opened the

only massage therapy business in her home town of Barnstaple in North Devon in 1986.

Combining her medical background with her therapy skills, she worked very closely with other

therapists, osteopaths, local GP’s and hospitals. Giving lectures and teaching workshops as well

(4)

as holding drop-in aromatherapy clinics and blending topical applications for babies with eczema; patients with

varicose ulcers and many other conditions.

She has always continued with her training and developed her skill in Remedial massage at the Northern Institute of

Massage with Eddie Caldwell and Lars Peterson author of Sports injuries. The focus of her treatments combines

remedial massage with aromatherapy as she helped many Olympic athletes recover from injuries and return to peak

performance as part of their training regime.

Gail considers that it was her enthusiasm and passion combined with the very thorough training she received along

the way that is responsible for her success. She is concerned with the lack of quality in treatments she has received

worldwide, which has led her to open Devon Academy and share her skills and expertise with students during training.

Devon Academy has been training men and women of all ages and differing walks of life for over ten years and 1500

therapists later they still maintain a consistent 100% pass rate and very low dropout rate. Many students come back

and complete other training courses with Devon Academy and Gail is always ready to support and give advice and o

which are invaluable to a new therapist.

Although students are always conscious of the cost of their training, she feels that the quality and cost effectiveness of

her training is really second to none and believes that initially you are only as good as the person who teaches you

and she believes she is one of the best! Evidence goes to support this through the amount of Devon Academy trained

therapists

running

their

own

practices

and

businesses

throughout

Europe

and

the

UK.

Support staff -

Ruth Godbeer

Ruth joined the team at Devon Academy in her capacity as office administrator in 2011 she is

also an experienced runner and sports trainer herself, who ran the Kingsbridge leg of the

Olympic torch relay in 2013.

She is our main office administrator and without her support we would crumble. She organises

the office, co-ordinates with the students and keeps us firmly on the straight and narrow.
