CCC Student Trustee
Official Candidate Petition 2020 ‐ 2021
Student Trustee Job Description
According to Board Bylaws, Article I, Section 1.2, the student member of the Board shall be elected from one of the City Colleges on a rotating basis and elected by a campus‐wide referendum of the students of the selected college. If after the election, the Student Trustee is unable to fulfill his duties or becomes unqualified the student with the next highest votes will be appointed as the new Student Trustee. If this becomes unfeasible, a special election will be held at the earliest practical date. The student trustee serves for a single term of one (1) year beginning April 15th and ending April 14th of the following year. Student Trustee will be sworn in at the May Board of trustee meeting. The Student Trustee is non‐voting member of the Board of Trustees, having all rights accorded to other Board members, including the right to make and second motions and to attend closed sessions.
The Student Trustee is responsible for:
• Attending monthly Board meetings, quarterly committee meetings and related events. • Attending DSGA monthly meetings and informing SGA presidents of Board updates. • Ensuring student rights and ideas are heard by the Board and the administration. • Seeing that programs are implemented or improved to ensure student success. • Keeping the student body abreast of CCC policies and programs.
• Represent CCC at related ICCB meetings.
• Having basic knowledge of Board Bylaws, Board Policies and Procedures, SGA Guidelines, SGA Constitution and Bylaws.
• Serving on various committees and RFP selection committees. Candidate Eligibility
In order to be eligible to serve as a Student Trustee, a student must maintain a minimum of 6 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75.
City Colleges of Chicago students that have earned 64 or more credits toward graduation at the time of petition or have earned an Associates’ Degree at any of the City Colleges of Chicago are not eligible to serve as a Student Trustee. Term of office is April 15, 2020 – April 15, 2021.
First semester students are granted a grade point average waiver and may serve until a grade point average is established.
In order to be eligible to serve as the Student Trustee, a student must not have incurred any disciplinary infractions while enrolled at any of the seven (7) City Colleges of Chicago. To do so would result in immediate disqualification. All candidates’ academic records will be reviewed by the Student Activities Office prior to the campaign period. Candidates will be notified immediately should they not be eligible to run for office.
A person elected into office, whose GPA falls below the stipulated GPA and/or who is placed on academic probation for one semester, will relinquish all powers and privileges of that office. This will also prohibit them from receiving the tuition waiver, and any additional waivers associated with Student Trustee/SGA for their term in office.
