announcement was made that
cir-cular letters had been sent all
post-masters directing that they collect only postage for the first tone, nn
matter what the distance the food
stuffs would have to be shipped.
The difference will be biade up by the war department, which, on
shipments to third and ..fourth tones, will deduct from the price
chargel for orders a sum sufficient to make up the shortage.
Poslmasters were requested by
the post office department to accept
newspaper dispatches as
authoriza-tion for suspension of the gone
rates In regard to the army food,
adding
that
official authorizationwould follow.
The order came after complaints
had been received from all parti
of the country that postage from
distribution centers Into third and fourth tones would In many
in-stances result In an actual price
to many consumers In excess to
tht
charged in stores.NOTE Even with the parrels
post rale changed so that the charges for the first tone only are
collected from the purchaser, very
tittle saving can be mart by
peo-ple of Carlsbad on purchase from
the army on any of the Urtlcle
quoted In the list furnished to the postmasters. The Current doesn't
mention this fact for the purpose
of discouraging pnrchaees, but that
people who undertake to make such
purchases may not he disappointed. There Is also the fact that army goods ennnot be purchased subject
