CONSTRUCTION SITE SAFETY MASTER

In order to obtain this certification, Construction Site Safety Master (CSSM) candidates must: Successfully complete NCCER’s Master Trainer Program* or Instructor Certification Training Program ** (See additional information on page 6.).

AND Provide a copy of the applicant’s resume detailing safety experience AND Fulfill at least one of the following education and training requirements:

• Current certification as an Associate Safety Professional or Certified Safety Professional (valid certification number required for verification)

OR

• A bachelor’s degree in safety from an Accredited Board for Engineering & Technology (ABET) approved program and four years of professional construction safety experience

OR

• Any four-year bachelor’s degree (AA/AS not applicable) with a minimum of five years of full-time construction safety experience

OR

• Successful completion of NCCER’s Safety Technology program with a minimum of five years of full-time construction safety experience

OR

• Minimum of 10 years of full-time construction safety experience

The sponsor representative is responsible for verifying and maintaining documentation of qualifications as outlined above.

Once the above requirements are met, candidates must complete and submit, through the Accredited Training Sponsor, the Construction Site Safety Master (Form 800) and safety resume. It is not a requirement to submit a Form 101 to register for this CSSM certification. The Form 800 can be found in the forms section on NCCER’s website at www.nccer.org.

CONSTRUCTION SITE SAFETY TECHNICIAN

In order to obtain this certification, Construction Site Safety Technicians (CSST) candidates must: Successfully complete NCCER’s Master Trainer Program* or Instructor Certification Training Program** (See additional information on page 6.).

AND Successfully complete either edition of NCCER’s Field Safety AND Successfully complete NCCER’s Safety Technology

AND Fulfill at least one of the following education and training requirements: • Possess an associate degree or higher in safety from an accredited

postsecondary educational institution with a minimum of two years construction industry experience

OR

• Have five years of experience as a safety trainer, instructor, educator or safety supervisor in the construction industry

The sponsor representative is responsible for verifying and maintaining documentation of qualifications as outlined above.

Once the above requirements are met, the Accredited Training Sponsor must submit the Instructor Certification Form (Form 101) for the CSST title. The Form 101 can be found in the forms section on NCCER’s website at www.nccer.org.

CONSTRUCTION SITE SAFETY SUPERVISOR

In order to obtain this certification, Construction Site Safety Supervisor (CSSS) candidates must: Successfully complete NCCER’s Master Trainer Program* or Instructor Certification Training Program ** (See additional information on page 6.).

AND Successfully complete either edition of NCCER’s Field Safety

AND Successfully complete 11 modules from NCCER’s Safety Technology (See list of identified modules at the end of this document.)

OR

Complete the OSHA 500 (Please note that ONLY the OSHA 500 credential is acceptable along with a copy of the credential.).

AND Fulfill at least one of the following education and training requirements: • Possess an associate degree or higher in safety from an accredited

postsecondary educational institution with a minimum of two years construction industry experience

OR

• Have five years of experience as a safety trainer, instructor, educator, or safety supervisor in the construction industry

OR • Have journey-level craft experience

The sponsor representative is responsible for verifying and maintaining documentation of qualifications as outlined above.

In order to obtain this certification, Construction Site Safety Orientation (CSSO) candidates must: Successfully complete NCCER’s Master Trainer Program* or Instructor Certification Training Program** (See additional information on page 6.).

AND Successfully complete either edition of NCCER’s Field Safety OR

Complete the OSHA 500 (Please note that ONLY the OSHA 500 credential is acceptable along with a copy of the credential.).

AND Fulfill at least one of the following education and training requirements: • Possess an associate degree or higher in safety from an accredited

postsecondary educational institution with a minimum of two years construction industry experience

MASTER TRAINER *

In order to obtain this certification, Master Trainer candidates must:

Successfully complete NCCER’s Instructor Certification Training Program for Master Trainers, which is presented directly by NCCER

AND Be employed or endorsed by an NCCER Accredited Training Sponsor AND Demonstrate at least one of the following:

• Two years of experience as a trainer, instructor or educator OR

• An associate degree or higher in education, a construction-related field, industrial arts or similar field from an accredited postsecondary education institution

OR

• A minimum of two years experience at a supervisory level or higher in the construction, maintenance or pipeline industry

CRAFT/TECHNICIAN INSTRUCTOR **

In order to obtain this certification, Craft/Technician Instructor candidates must:

Successfully complete NCCER’s Instructor Certification Training Program for Craft/ Technician Instructors, which is presented by NCCER Master Trainers

AND Be employed or endorsed by an NCCER Accredited Training Sponsor AND Demonstrate at least one of the following:

• Minimum of journey-level or technician-level expertise OR

• Minimum of three years experience as a certified teacher in a vocational/ technical construction, maintenance or pipeline-related training program

NCCER offers two types of instructor certification training programs that teach instructors how to

instruct using the NCCER Curriculum.
