The application form for the Culinary Arts Academy and a dated outline of the screening process are included in this packet. The information that follows will help you complete the CAA admission process.

I. ELIGIBILTY AND ADMISSION QUALIFICATION

Must meet the following selection criteria of:

∗ Completed Application (form included in this packet) ∗ Completed Performance/Behavioral Contract

∗ Copy of first semester 8th grade report card (Fall 2008)

∗ Available Space – as limited by the facilities of Sonora High School, the size of our feeder junior high population, and the FJUHSD open enrollment policy

Obtaining, if necessary, an appropriate attendance permit approved by the home school district of residence and the Fullerton Joint Union High School District.

Students accepted to Sonora High School during the district’s period of Open Enrollment must still apply and qualify for acceptance into the CAA.

∗ Students who do not live in the Sonora High School attendance area who are transferring from private schools must obtain a transfer appropriate to the resident school.

Intra-District transfer students (living within the FJUHSD) who have not done open

enrollment, must present a copy of the Sonora CAA acceptance letter and obtain the Intra-district Transfer from the high school of residence.

Inter-District transfer students (living outside the FJUHSD) must obtain a request for

Transfer Form from their home school district. This form should be completed and presented along with a copy of the Sonora CAA acceptance letter to the resident district. ∗ Obtain, if necessary, an inter-SELPA agreement approved by both the special Education Local Program Area (SELPA) that serves the student’s school district of residence and the North Orange County SELPA.

∗ The ability of Sonora to meet the educational needs of the student applicant based on the student’s IEP and/or 504 Accommodation Plan.

∗ Physical space limitations may be a factor in accepting out-of-district students.

II. APPLICATION FORMS DUE

For the Sonora attendance area, applications are due by April 17, 2009. For Intra-District students, applications are due by March 31, 2009. Application requires a copy of the Fall 2008 semester report card. III. TRANSPORTATION

Students living outside the attendance area must provide their own transportation.

ACADEMY ELIGIBILITY

All Culinary Arts Academy applicants, who have met the requirements by the due date, will receive a letter of notification in March. (Incomplete applications - missing any of the necessary items – will not be considered for entrance in the initial applicant pool). Subsequent candidates’ acceptance will depend upon available space.

The ability of Sonora High School to meet the educational needs of the student applicant based on the student’s

IEP and /or 504 accommodation plan may be a factor in acceptance. Physical space limitations and impacted

programs are also a factor in accepting out-of-district students.

Special Education students must obtain an inter-SELPA agreement approved by both the Special Education Local Program

Area (SELPA) that serves the student’s school district of residence and the North Orange County SELPA.

Students who do not live in the Sonora attendance area or are transferring from a private school, must obtain a transfer appropriate to the school district of residence. An attendance permit approved by both the student’s home school and Fullerton Joint Union High School District (FJUHSD) is required. Students accepted to Sonora during the district’s period of Open Enrollment must still apply to the Culinary Arts Academy.

EXPECTATIONS AND GUIDELINES

The Sonora Culinary Arts Academy is preparing students for opportunities within the Culinary field, both as adults and while they are enrolled in high school. Our expectations and guidelines match those of future employers. Therefore program guidelines must be understood and agreed upon by both student and parent before admission into the Academy.

Ø Students will maintain regular attendance, arriving in class on time with the appropriate materials. Ø

Ø Students will abide by the Sonora rules, as explained in the Student Handbook. Violation of these

rules will result in dismissal from the program.

Ø Students accepted into the program will remain in the program for the full year. Students will not

be allowed to drop at the semester.

all of the information provided herein is complete and accurate. I understand that false

information may eliminate my participation in the Academy.

Students attending Sonora High School and enrolled in CAA must adhere to the following guidelines: *

1. Maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

2. Maintain satisfactory citizenship (no U’s).

3. Maintain satisfactory attendance (no cuts).

4. Maintain Academic Honesty.

5. Inter-district and Intra-district transfer students must

remain enrolled in CAA courses each semester.
