Aknowledgement

This book once again happened through the

encouragement from my family , my parents , my sister’s family , friends and cousins. A special mention is needed to be put about Mr. Sonam Mallik for being the punching sack of my ideas. I would like to also thank all my professional associates to have contributed in whatever little way, sometimes in oblivion too , for shaping this book .I would also like to take the opportunity to thank my editors for bearing with me for delaying in submission of the manuscript . Thank you for your patience. Last but not at all the least , I heartily dedicate this book to my father , who left us for his heavenly abode , and my friend Shankar Ganguly , who also left us a year and half ago. I can only remember you through my writing. Thank you all. Needless to say , all the characters are fictitious . Any resemblance to characters living or dead is merely coincidental.

Prologue

Companies do not care for people. Though, people build companies , they grow to devour them. Yet

people keep serving them with complete

commitment in search for sustenance. However , we tend to forget that time changes everything . Time has no mercy , no remorse .It can denigrate the mighty and catapult the simpleton to stardom ... it can compel the profligate into heroics and lead the

influential into disdain. People have an

overwhelming desire to believe onto something .... to have a definition to their life . With a goal in front even dullards can move mountains. The process of defining oneself brings forth ones character . It’s a lifelong asset.

Chapter 1

The Final Sermon

“This is going to be long .... so people who would like to catch a quick grub, have a smoke or visit the loo, please do so now. I refuse to call it the washroom or the restroom . Everyone knows what people do out there...so why to assign such benevolent terminology to it. Let shit , be called shit.”

Amidst the murmur of laughter and giggles that ensued, some people from the audience chose to leave the auditorium , to come back refreshed , through whatever means. The evening promised to be long ....and eventful.

We are at “Premier House” , mass lecture hall ( which can accommodate a thousand people with ease) , Mumbai, India. This being a special occasion, almost historical . We are here to bid adieu to P.B.Solomon , the last non-executive member of the previous management of Premier

Engineering Private Limited . His peers have long gone and the few who remain have been consumed by executive posts of the new Sino-Afghan management . We are here to hear the last sermon of Solomon , who had for so long coupled his tasks of engineering with providing every avid listener on Saturdays a short ( sometimes long) , inspiration talk. They became famous as “Solomon’s Sermon” and most of them had been published in magazines , worldwide.

I, Kabir Sen ,have been given the incommodious task of covering this event. I am not very comfortable though, since I’m depressed like most of the others at the departure of this Colossus. Till some years back Premier and Solomon were inseparable entities . “In death do we part” was Solomon’s once vocal opinion . So , this is history being etched today in the glassware of time .

We are about to resume . The ones who had been out , have quickly returned to their seats . The lights have been dimmed and a soothing background tune has been set . The tune is like the canvas , the ornamentation of which is awaited.

“ I start by offering apology , to no one in particular, but on behalf of mankind , for talking big from a small hole in this vast universe .... which in turn is a small piece of shit , sorry, within the collection of trillions of even bigger universes . We are too small to even imagine , how many centuries more , this planet will exist. Ladies and Gentlemen , I am Solomon P.B. , you can put the initials in any

order ,Perennially Bore or Boring Person , P.B. means the same. Though I hail from Kerala , I have never lived there , you know why? Because its God’s own country and I am nothing less than a demon . My parents chose Mumbai as their home when I was not even born .I never got married , not because I am a gay or am impotent but because I never felt like getting married . It’s a strange feeling and it only comes to creatures as ignoramus as me.” “But I had the best of education .” Solomon shifted his tone to a low baritone. The classical voice modulation. I knew something hard was about to come. “ That’s because my parents could afford it since I was their only child . You know why ?” Solomon temporarily raised his voice a little , only half a pitch perhaps. “Because I never went out to play?”

Some laughter emanated from the audience .Solomon waited for the audience to settle once again.

“ The misfortune of the nation is that we are too many of us . I shudder to think what our ancestors have done. We are bearing a curse handed over by our predecessors which we are destined to pass over to our progeny as a sorry legacy.”

“You see , China too is a populated nation . Also , at one point of time they too were impoverished . But they have risen from the ashes with re-invented vigour. They have amended their psyche to strengthen their national cause. They have used
