Elementary Programs:
3
rdGrade Summer Reading Camp: Intensive reading camp for third grade general education, ESOL, and
ESE resource students who scored a level 1 on FSA Reading. Instruction will include intensive reading
instruction to develop oral reading fluency and word level skills, to improve strategies for reading and
comprehending non-fiction text, and to connect reading and writing skills. The camp provides an opportunity to
complete a reading portfolio or achieve a passing Alternative Assessment score.
ESE 3rd Grade Reading Camp (Separate Class): This intensive reading camp is for third grade VE Mild/
Moderate students who scored a level 1 on FSA Reading and receive their reading instruction in a separate
ESE class. The focus of this program will include intensive reading instruction to develop foundational skills,
oral language, vocabulary, and comprehension.
ESOL
– Grades K-5: The ESOL program offers an intensive English acquisition curriculum with a focus on
academic language in all content areas. The goal of the program is to deepen our ESOL student’s academic
language development through intensive hands-on activities while at the same time building their English oral
language development.
ESY: ESE and related services provided to students with disabilities beyond the regular 180-day school year
are called extended school year (ESY) services. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, school
districts must provide ESY services if the student requires those services in order to receive a free appropriate
public education (FAPE). Only ESE students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) reflecting “ESY” may
attend. The ESY Determination of Need form is used to determine eligibility by the IEP committee.
Migrant:
PENDING FUNDING
Students in the Migrant Program are eligible to participate in any of the various
programs, such as: Grades 6-12 Intensive English Acquisition Program, Grades 9-12 Online Learning for
Credit Retrieval, and K-5 Enrichment Program that meets their academic needs. The Migrant Program will
provide services, resources, and materials to support the students in addition to those offered by the District.
Title I CSI (Comprehension and Science Investigation) – Grades Pre-K, K, 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5
thGrade STEM:
CSI (Comprehension and Science Investigation) is an engaging hands-on integrated science and reading
program. Pre-K and K units are now part of CSI along with all grades using Common Core curriculum. CSI will
focus on science content centered on themes of the practice of science, water cycle, weather, matter, and
energy. Hands-on Foss and Delta experiments, problem-solving math questions and writing will also be
incorporated. The goals of this program are to strengthen reading and math strategies as well as pre-teaching
science content for the coming year. *New this year
– Pearson Project STEM for 5
thgraders going to
middle school.
VPK (Voluntary Prekindergarten): A child living in Volusia County may enroll if the parent has a valid
“Summer 2015” Certificate of Eligibility from the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties.
School district personnel cannot determine the eligibility for the VPK program. The program’s instructional
focus will address the following: physical development, approaches to learning, cognitive development and
general knowledge, language communication and emergent literacy, social and emotional development.

Secondary Programs:
Driver Education: Provide students the opportunity to complete Driver’s Education during summer programs. Upon successful completion of the course, the student can earn .5 credits in Driver’s Education.
End of Course Summer Program - Algebra I EOC: Intensive camp for high school students who scored a level 1 or 2
on the spring state EOC test; and passed the course during the regular school year. Instruction will include a review of the benchmarks tested on the spring EOC.
Jumpstart Algebra: Engaging camp for rising 9th grade students who will be taking 9th grade Algebra I in the fall, especially students with middle school math grades of C or lower.
Jumpstart Biology: Engaging camp for rising 9th and 10th grade students who will be taking 9th or 10th grade Biology I in the fall and have passed Algebra I.
Secondary Credit Retrieval Online Labs: Secondary sites will host online credit retrieval courses for students who failed language arts, math, science and/or social studies.
Volusia Virtual School HS Credit Retrieval: VVS will host two summer sessions for students needing high school
course for credit recovery in order to be eligible to graduate with the student’s class. Session A: June 8-25, 2015; Session B: July 6-30, 2015. Students work in courses from any computer with an internet connection. Students are required to participate in proctored summative exams at a designated computer lab and will have access to face-to-face academic support, as needed. Students must submit an online application for each session. Students may only request one course per session. Go to www.volusiaonlinelearning.com for more detailed information.
New School-Based Program: Deltona Middle School Project STEM for present 6th and 7th grade Deltona Middle School students. Please apply on-line for Title I CSI to be considered for one of these positions. Use DeBary Elementary as your school site choice, though the work site will be Deltona Middle School.
