Guidelines for Thesis Proposal

Mahidol Bangkok School of Tropical Medicine (Mahidol-BSTM),

Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University.

The thesis proposal components are suggested in this guideline but all the general format must be in accordance with the thesis format of the Faculty of Graduate, Mahidol University These include font type (prefer 10 point time New Roman), page setup, line spacing and page numbering. Please consult the web-site; “http://www.grad.mahidol.ac.th/thesis/index-en.php”

The components of thesis proposal should be arranged in the following sequence.

2. Thesis proposal submitted page 3. Evaluation of the thesis proposal

4. Summary of thesis proposal (Abstract) 5. Table of Contents

6. List of figures, List of illustrations (if any) 7. List of Abbreviations

8. Contents

8.1 Introduction

8.2 Review of the literature

8.3 Objective of the proposed study 8.4 Materials and Methods

8.5 Data analysis

8.6 Significance of the research 8.7 Research Fund

8.8 Time Schedule

Component Details.

1. Cover and Title page must contain the following details  Thesis title

 Name of student

 Statement “A thesis proposal for the degree of …. (name of the course)

 Name of Faculty

 Year of defense thesis proposal

2. Thesis proposal submitted page must contain the following details

 Thesis title

 A statement “was submitted to the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University for the ... (specify a program) on … (date)”

 The list of names for signatures from candidate and thesis advisor committee. To specify degree of all thesis advisors

3. Evaluation of the thesis proposal (Thesis proposal approval page) must contain the following details

• A statement “We, the member of the Thesis

Proposal Defense Committee”

• Thesis title

• The list of names for signatures from the thesis proposal defense committee and the dean. To specify degree of all the committee members

4. Summary of thesis proposal (to follow the format of the Faculty of Graduate)

3 This page contains details of thesis proposal title, name of candidate and student ID, name of the program and name of field of study.

Using concise sentences, this part details the objectives, background, materials and methods, time frame and the expected usefulness of the proposed study. The length must not more than one page and to have 3-5 key words at the end.

5. Table of Contents. This page lists the captions and page numbers of all the tables that appear in the thesis proposal.

6. List of tables and list of figures and illustrations (if any). This page lists the page number of all tables and figures (figures, maps, charts and graphs) in the thesis proposal. 7. List of Abbreviations (if any). This page describes

symbols and abbreviation in the thesis proposal. Abbreviations should be used as an aid to the reader, rather than as a convenience to the author, and therefore their use should be limited.

8. Contents of the thesis proposal.

This page outlines important sections of the thesis proposal in proper order of page numbers. All the 9 suggested topics (see 8.1-8.9) should be included.

9. References. This section comprises of list of references that details titles of books, publications, audiovisual materials. References cited in the contents are numbered throughout the text. Citations will be numbered in the order in which they appear in the article (citation-sequence reference system) in parentheses. Reference style in the reference section is to follow the Graduate guideline.

10. Appendices are supplementary texts that cannot be included in the body of the text but can enhance thesis comprehensive and any relevant research data that were not directly cited in the thesis / thematic paper.

11. Biography of student. The biography appears on the last page. This page should include the following information of the author:

 First and last name with applicable title, rank,

rank of nobility, title conferred by the king and religious rank.

 Date of birth

 Place of birth (province and country)

 Education credentials from Bachelor degree

upward together with details of relevant academic institution and year of degree completion.

 Scholarship / Research grants (if any)

 Home address

 Current work position and office  Academic publication
