Spring 2008

The Sikeston Career & Technology Center is committed to community education. We offer you the chance to learn new skills, explore new career options and fulfill your life by enrolling in our adult education programs.

Office Hours

Mon. thru Fri. 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. When classes begin January 28 times will be: Mon. thru Thurs (when night classes are in session) 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Attendance Policy

Registration Continued

(Short-term courses)

Certificates will be issued on attendance and com-pletion of competencies for vocational courses. For short-term courses, students missing more than TWO classes MAY NOT RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE. For full-time students, please refer to the attendance

policy in the 2007-08 SCTC Student Handbook.

Parking

Students may park in the designated parking spaces only. Please do not park outside of lines or in the grass.

How to Register

For Short-Term Courses

Spring registration will begin on January 8, 2008. You may register in person or by mail using the registration forms on the back cover.

To register in person, come to the Adult Education Office during office hours at Sikeston Career & Technology Center, 200 Pine St., Sikeston, MO 63801.

To register by mail, complete the registration form and mail it with your fee to: Sikeston Career & Technology Center, 200 Pine St., Sikeston, MO 63801. Checks should be made payable to Sikeston Public Schools.

Receipt of your enrollment WILL NOT be confirmed or acknowledged unless there is a problem. You should assume that you are enrolled and the class will begin as scheduled in this flyer. Mark your calendar with your start date and time. You will be notified by telephone only if class is canceled.

You are encouraged to register early since classes are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Most classes require a minimum number of students. Tuition must accompany enrollment. There will be an additional $20 charge for any checks that are returned to us due to insufficient funds.

Refund Policy

Full refunds will be given if a class does not form due to insufficient enrollment or if a class is full when registration is received. Please allow 2-4 weeks to receive your refund. Any class may be dropped and a refund will be issued, minus the $5 registration fee, if you notify our office at least 3 working days PRIOR to its start. Refer to the partial refund policy stated below. One- or two-week classes will not be refunded once they have begun.

Partial refunds will be made, if possible, as follows: 1) Students dropping after one class will be refunded 70% of the tuition.

2) No refunds will be issued for students drop-ping after the second class meeting.

3) No refunds will be issued to students for text-books or worktext-books if they have been written in or if pages have been removed. NO EXCEPTION! For full-time students, please refer to the refund policy in the 2007-08 SCTC Student Handbook.

Smoking

Sikeston Career & Technology Center is a smoke-free campus. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the grounds.

#1231 Beginning Medical Terminology Staff

#1260 Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

Prepare for entry into medical training. This course is designed for those interested in learning the terminology essential to jobs in the medical field.

Prerequisite for Medical Transcription.

This course prepares those who have a career in medical coding and terminology or for those who have taken both of the classes to prepare you to take the CCS exam and an insight into taking the certifica-tion test.

This course is designed to help learners master the complexities of medical coding. It will address a variety of medical specialties including CPT, ICD-9, pri-mary care, dermatology, and auditing and appeals for comprehensive coverage. #1250 Medication Technician (CMT) Staff

PRETEST WILL BE GIVEN AT SPS HEALTH OCCUPATIONS CLASSROOM. Call 472-8887 to sign up for class. This state approved course meets the minimum standards of medication technicians for nurs-ing homes and other long-term health care facilities. The course includes 60 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of clinical training. Eligibility requirements: High school diploma or GED, state certified nurse aid with a minimum of six months nurse aid experience. Must submit a letter of reference from employer. If not cur-rently employed, must submit a letter of reference from previous employer. Must pass a pre-test that measures your reading comprehension and math skills. A certifi-cate will be given to those who successfully complete the course. Applications may be picked up at the Health Occupations Department.

This is a very important position in any hospital. Ward clerks assist the nurse. They transcribe doctors’ orders, lab and radiological reports, order supplies, page personnel, and answer the telephone. In this course, the student will learn how to use hospital communications systems properly and become familiar with the forms necessary to handle the position.

#1216 CPR Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers

Staff

Curriculum and testing will include the First responder adult CPR, adult obstructed airway pediatric CPR, as well as two rescuer adult CPR and mouth-to-mask technique and circoid pressure. An 84% or greater score is required on the written test. The completion card should be issued to all students who demonstrate mastery of knowledge and skills. #1211 I.V. Therapy for LPN’s Staff

Prerequisite: Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse. This course prepares current Licensed Practical Nurses in the state of Missouri to perform limited I.V. therapy treatments. Course included 40 hours of classroom lecture and lab followed by and 8-hour RN supervised clinical. Graduates of the course will receive Missouri state certification. Class limited to first 15 people.
