PC/E Branch Device Management
Software solution for optimum control and management
of your banking devices
PC/E Branch Device Management
More than ever, a net-centric IT architecture is now the key factor when
it comes to process optimization and cost cutting. Since this also
applies to the management of front-office devices at retail banks,
Wincor Nixdorf offers PC/E Branch Device Management.
Financial institutions need to configure, administer and monitor their device estates across the organization at optimum cost.
| Innovative device estate management
Retail banks are modernizing their branch IT with viable, future-proof infrastructures in order to optimize operating margins. They see the potential of value creation in the reduction of administrative overhead. There is a clear trend toward the (re)cen-tralization of branch servers and the stan-dardization of applications, triggered by unsatisfactory cost structures in common IT landscapes. Banks are increasingly de mand ing Web-based software solutions to help them handle business transactions efficiently. At the same time, bank staff requires access from their workstations to all the banking devices at the branch. The use of both Internet technology and thin clients in the front office are examples of today's IT modernization and consolida-tion. Under this aspect, financial institu-tions need a single solution to administer all banking peripherals and make the device services available on the network from a central point, particularly when banks merge or acquire other institutions. The right concept allows both existing and future front-office devices to be integrated quickly and easily.
| Branches are making a comeback Customers' demands are on the rise. At branches they expect service that meets their requirements, innovative facilities and an appealing atmosphere for active con sulting. To increase their scope for this, financial institutions are turning to new technologies that can handle standard business transactions more easily and fas ter using a variety of frontoffice de -vices. And that’s not all: automation of transactions via banking peripherals must also be secure and reliable.
| Net-centric software solution for peripheral control
PC/E Branch Device Management is the future-oriented software platform from Wincor Nixdorf for control of banking peripherals in the front office. This soft -ware is ideal for all banks that focus on banking applications and want to use stan-dard software to control their devices. It supports all the usual devices such as automated teller safes (ATSs), card read-ers, passbook and receipt printers and sig-nature pads, to mention just a few. | Our solution: the functions

❚ Control of banking devices even in heterogeneous IT landscapes
❚ Fast integration of new peripherals and device types (vendor-independent)
❚ Central management of front-office devices for optimized operating costs
❚ Enhanced availability through real-time monitoring
❚ Extension of the installed base at optimum cost thanks to a scalable architecture
❚ Investment security due to system and platform independence
To optimize bank transactions, the soft-ware platform is constantly being expand-ed to cover additional device models and new device types. Third-party device driv-ers can also be integrated as an option. | Convenient, time-saving
administration
Since the configuration data for the pe -riph erals is kept centrally, configuration changes can be made available faster for all front-office devices on the network. This saves your bank costly site visits by technicians. To make sure your financial
ins titution profits directly from new device functions when relevant process changes occur, the required configuration changes are available centrally and a mechanism installs them automatically on those work-stations that have connected devices. Configuration updates or new installations are implemented in this way on an as needed basis. The software features a com prehensive administration console.
|Central overview and real-time monitoring enhance availability High availability of front-office devices at the branches is critical for smooth transac-tion processing. So that you can ensure this, we offer an extra service that can be used to monitor all connected devices cen-trally. Potential faults or device incidents are reported directly, allowing you to solve the situation as fast as possible. You can keep precise track of the entire estate of devices and analyze the malfunction of an individual printer in real time just as easily as a power failure that affects the whole branch.
Central management and monitoring
boost the availability of devices and let you benefit from
lower IT costs and optimum investment protection.
PC/E Branch Device Management ensures secure, efficient access to front-office peripherals in thin client environments.
| Access to peripherals in every system environment
To ensure device control in heterogeneous system landscapes or to enable it in thin client environments, PC/E Branch Device Management is installed on a peripheral controller at your bank's branches. The pe -ri pheral controller is capable of networking and allows device control to be decoupled from the front-office workstations. When configuring PC workstations, banks conse-quently no longer need to consider re -sources, such as interfaces, that would otherwise be necessary. This makes it more cost-efficient to deploy thin client workstation computers throughout a branch.
The peripheral controller has a variety of COM and USB ports so the system can be used wherever standard PCs do not sup-port these sup-ports adequately or at all. Connecting the front-office devices direct-ly to the peripheral controller makes them IP-capable and thus available to the bank-ing applications over the network.
| Advantages in the name of PC/E Suite
PC/E Branch Device Management delivers optimum control and management of your entire estate of banking peripherals. The modular structure of the PC/E Suite means that the software platform is responsible for device control in the modern PC/E Teller Operations software. With the large

number of devices available, this enables the increasing automation of transaction handling and significantly reduces the associated transaction times. The combi-nation of the two software packages supports a variety of scenarios such as ter-minal server mode, Web-based architec-tures or thin client environments.
Using the PC/E Assisted Services applica-tion, staff can initiate cash withdrawals on their front-office workstations and transfer the actual dispensing operations to an ATM or ATS. To do this, data must be read from a customer or white card via a mag-netic card reader and linked to the front-office transaction data. The card reader or ATS is accessed via PC/E Branch Device Man age ment.

| New IT concepts for retail banks The sector: The main pillars of traditional banking business are crumbling; their prof itability can no longer be regarded as stable, let alone rising. This is due in part to flex ible customers, who are quick to change banks when they have a better offer else where. Market liberalization makes this flex ibility possible; thus, the winner is the bank that succeeds in ap pealing to consumers' emotions and staying one step ahead of the competition. However, the generally complex, heteroge-neous IT ar chitecture of most financial institutions does not support this strategy or the processes it requires.
