RECREATION & DANCE — Nassau Zone Outstanding Physical Education Student Award - 2019-2020

Presented by: Dr. Michael Brostowski

This award was presented in December to honor a male and female physical education student in the class of 2019 who demonstrated exceptional physi-cal performance, scholastic ability, leadership qualities, and service to their school and community throughout their high school careers.

Renny Witzig was a highly-respected and beloved teacher, coach, depart-ment chairman and friend. This award is presented to the senior boy and girl who best exemplify his integrity, personality and skills in the Roslyn High School Physical Education program.

ROSLYN BOOSTER BASKETBALL CLUB SHELDON SHALOM AWARD Presented by: Mr. Steven Flick & Mr. Steven Kahn

Sheldon Shalom began coaching Roslyn Booster Basketball in 1985 when his son, Victor, was in the fourth grade. He formed a new instructional league for fourth graders and then ran this program for 17 years. He initiated the use of high school students to assist and inspire younger athletes. He was also the Executive Vice -President of Booster Basketball for 10 years.

This award is given in his name to honor an athlete who has combined ath-letic excellence, character and community service.

ROSLYN BOOSTER BASKETBALL CLUB SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD Presented by: Mr. Steven Flick & Mr. Steven Kahn

This award is presented to a senior boy and girl who have best combined academic excellence with extensive participation in athletics. Academic achievement is a crite-ria, as well as consideration for all sports played, seasonal scholar/athlete awards, Section VIII All-County, All-Conference and All-Division awards, and recognition as a Roslyn “Most Valuable Player,” “Most Improved Player,” and “Coach’s Award” recipi-ent over four years as a Roslyn High School athlete.

ROSLYN BOOSTER BASKETBALL CLUB LENNY PUGATCH AWARD Presented by: Mr. Steven Flick & Mr. Steven Kahn

Len Pugatch grew up in Roslyn and played Booster Basketball. He graduated from Roslyn High School in 1969 and played Varsity sports in High School and College. Len began coaching as a senior in high school and eventually became President of Roslyn Booster Basketball from1994 until 2002. Without Len, the enormous growth and popularity enjoyed by the Booster Basketball program could not have occurred. Len was not someone who simply participated. He was an example of someone who took an active and leading role in the program to which he had committed himself. This award is given to an athlete who has demonstrated peer leadership, with exten-sive athletic participation.

ROSLYN LITTLE LEAGUE DAVID WOLFE SCHOLARSHIP Presented by: Mr. Doug Wolfe & Mr. Greg Zucker

This scholarship is presented in memory of David Wolfe. It honors two stu-dents who have participated with excellence in sports at Roslyn High School and have demonstrated the ability to successfully combine academic and ath-letic goals.

Presented by: Ms. Samantha Peters

This scholarship is presented in memory of Jeff Peters. Jeff was a valued member of Roslyn Little League where he served as President and Commis-sioner. This award is presented to a Roslyn High School student who demon-strates high ethical behavior, actions, and morals.

ROSLYN LITTLE LEAGUE CHALLENGER DIVISION SCHOLARSHIP Presented by: Mr. Matthew Sadofsky

This scholarship is presented in honor of Eric Kobrick, co-founder of the Roslyn Little League Challenger Division. This award is presented to Roslyn High School stu dents who have demonstrated outstanding and dedicated service to the Challenger Program.

Jonah Albeg SHOOTING STARS BOOSTER BASKETBALL AWARD Presented by: Mr. Steven Flick & Mr. Steven Kahn

Shooting Stars is a basketball program that helps special needs children learn the skills of basketball in a friendly, non-competitive environment, while at the same time creating a bond between the children and their mentors. The program was started in 2007 in conjunction with the Sid Jacobson JCC. The Shooting Stars award exemplifies the combination of teamwork and helping others and is given to a Roslyn High School senior who has shown outstanding participation in, and support of, this program.

This scholarship is presented to a senior with outstanding

involve-ment and accomplishinvolve-ments in athletics, who has exhibited

leader-ship, sporting behavior, a positive attitude and characteristics as a

“team player” throughout his or her athletic career.

This scholarship is presented to a senior who has shown

outstand-ing participation and support for Roslyn athletics, and who

exem-plifies school spirit. This award honors the memory of Ms. Ginny

Kleinman, a founding member of the Bulldogs Booster

Associa-tion. Ginny’s kindness, generosity, and belief in the value of

athlet-ics for young people symbolizes the goals of the Bulldogs Booster

Association.

This scholarship is presented to a high-participation senior who

has displayed outstanding sporting behavior, character, and

dedication to the values of Roslyn High School athletics.

Sean Balakhanei BULLDOGS BOOSTER “COACH OF THE YEAR” AWARD Presented by: Dr. Michael Brostowski

This award is chosen annually by the Bulldogs Booster Association in recognition of coaching excellence.

This scholarship is presented to a senior who has exhibited outstanding Roslyn school spirit, pride, kindness, work ethic, unwavering compassion and dedication to helping others.

Feyi Rufai STEVEN SHENFELD SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Presented by: Ms. Jenn DiSanti & Ms. Jackie Golub

This award is presented to the student-athlete who has excelled in multiple sports, is viewed as a team leader and has exhibited a strong sense of commu-nity service. Steve Shenfeld was instrumental in rebuilding the Roslyn Bull-dogs Booster Association. Through his leadership, the organization provided funds for the redevelopment of athletic fields and instilled a strong sense of community involvement for supporting Roslyn athletics.

Roey Kafri THE DR. MIRA MARTINCICH SCHOLARSHIP AWARD Presented by: Ms. Jenn DiSanti & Ms. Jackie Golub

The Dr. Martincich award honors Roslyn’s devoted Director of Athletics and Physical Education, a position Dr. M held for over two decades. She is a leader who stands for the ideals of integrity, fair play, equality, team commitment and selflessness. The Roslyn community’s respect for her is unparalleled. This scholarship is presented to a senior who personifies these qualities.

Kidest Wolde MAUREEN TIMONY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSIP AWARD Present by: Ms. Jenn DiSanti & Ms. Jackie Golub

Coach Timony was a beloved volleyball coach and physical education teach-er. This scholarship is awarded in her memory to a male and female volleyball player whose commitment, devotion and love of the sport is exhibited by their sportsmanship and motivation to teammates.

The Michael Goldstein Memorial Football Scholarship is awarded each year to a senior member of the varsity football team who has demonstrated the high-est level of leadership and commitment to the football program at Roslyn High School.
