T

he Intensive MA Programmes are based on a methodological structure divided into:

• Online content at the beginning and end of the programme, through the IED Madrid’s e-learning platform.

• An attendance-based section, concentrated into three months, with the aim of developing the keys of the didactic programme with a range of professionals, combining projects, concepts and experience.

The Intensive MA Programmesare aimed at contributing to the training and specialisation of those who, because of a lack of time, professional commitments or geographical distance, are not able to access them in any other way.

This kind of programme allows students to experience a training experienced based on the combination of theoretical-practical content, direct and exclusive access to professionals from the sector, participation in cultural activities, both within and outside the IED Madrid, and an enriching personal experience which contributes to a comprehensive and objective vision of business reality.

The intensive MA programs offer a chance to develop and expand on the necessary knowledge to access or improve one’s professional activity in today’s competitive and demanding work market.

Due to the frantic speed with which fashion articles are launched

nowadays, and faced with consumers who are more and more demanding, it is of prime importance that products reach the final consumer exactly as they were presented, without defects, at a suitable price and in the stipulated time.

On the other hand, factors like the consolidation of new technologies, real time, the development of new markets and production decentralization, force the textile sector to be constantly seeking solutions and

improvements with which they can innovate and succeed.

To anticipate and face up to these changes, fashion companies increasingly need professionals able to quickly handle very complex production processes.

They need responsible, skilful and fast people, who can simultaneously coordinate the manufacture of products in Asia, negotiate with suppliers, and monitor the distribution of stocks and the sale of a product in the store. It is only by understanding the functions of each of the agents involved in this whole process that we can obtain the best results in terms of product and profitability. For this reason the Intensive Master in Fashion Management is based on acquiring knowledge in the spheres of management, marketing and purchases, thus enabling students to gain skills and practical experience in the management of fashion products in

prêt à porter, accessories and cosmetics.

Starting from this premise, the master was created to train professionals in the sphere of development, management and distribution of the fashion product in its widest sense, and from an international perspective.

has a didactic methodology that is applied to both the specific content of the master and to the common transversal area of the 4 schools of the IED Master (Design, Fashion, Visual Communication and Management). In this way, students receive a complete training experience, promoting relations with other disciplines and profiting from the exchange of knowledge, ideas, opinions and experiences as part of a stimulating and enriching training for their subsequent professional career. Starting from this approach, the methodology of the Intensive Master in Fashion

Management is based on:

Methodology

Theoretical-Practical Classes

These classes will help the student to lay the foundations of knowledge in a solid way in order to guarantee success in the execution of ideas. The student will have the opportunity to reinforce the knowledge acquired in the theoretical classes by means of finding solutions in practice cases, using real examples or working on specific cases which have a bearing on concrete subjects.

Online Training

The student will develop a series of subjects and tutorials through the IED Campus. These subjects, either theoretical-practical or to develop tools, are part of the student’s transversal training, and the online tutorials will form part of the support and monitoring of the final project.

Lectures

These lectures aim to bring the experiences of some of the most outstanding professionals in their field to students, in order to get to know different examples of current reality at first hand and to resolve the student’s doubts and concerns.

Visitas

These offer the possibility of seeing in situ the different spaces in which some of the sector’s professional activities are carried out.

Trips

The possibility of taking a trip exists, if the head of the course considers it to be necessary. If this happens, the additional cost will be met by the student.

Workshops

These are collective activities, where the student puts into practice the knowledge acquired during the course and experiments with new work tools from new approaches.

Design culture: The IED Madrid has a programme of cultural activities that complement the student’s training.

Professional orientation: The Companies Department of the IED generates didactic material, with the aim of facilitating students’ access to the professional world.

Module 3. Final project -

attendance-based (5 credits)

The final project, a fundamental part of the programme in the attendance-based period, and carried out in collaboration with a company in the sector, has as its objective the drawing up, carrying out and presentation of a work, as an exercise in the integration of the specific and transversal skills acquired during the programme, thus contributing to the student’s introduction to the employment situation. This project is carried out under the eye of a professional and is submitted for valuation by a jury of experts so they can mark it and give their critical opinion of the work done.

Module 4. Personal thesis - online (10

credits)

After finishing the attendance-based part of the teaching programme, students then have to face producing a personal thesis, with all the complexity and professionalism that this supposes.

Once they have decided the sector of interest in which they are going to work and what local realities, human resources and media and materials that they have, students present their projects to the head of the course for his approval. Work is carried out with the support of a project tutor through forums and online meetings, as well as by broadening his training with complementary didactic material. In this phase, didactic activity is focused on the resolution of any doubts with the tutor, periodic deliveries of thesis development, presentations for the monitoring of the documentation process, and periodic revisions. The result is presented to a jury by means of two delivery options:

• In person: at the headquarters of the IED Master.

• Online: by videoconference from the student’s home.

Intensive Master in Fashion Management IED Master Madrid

The IED Campus is the e-learning platform of the IED Madrid, and a practical and intuitive online support for enriching the training period of the design and communication disciplines. Distance learning is the perfect complement to the contact with the professionals and teachers who give the theoretical and practical content, and is an irreplaceable part of the training period. For this reason, the online modules are a perfectly integrated part of the courses. The material imparted allows our students to widen their skills and go deeper into the knowledge and tools they will require, so that the attendance-based experience is made even more intense and efficient.

The IED Campus provides didactic content in such formats as master classes, interactive manuals, downloadable texts, course self-evaluation tests, activities, directed exercises, personalized tutorials and debate forums moderated by our teachers, who give the student continuous follow-up.

There is also a coordination space on the IED Campus to support the attendance based classes, where students can establish multidirectional communication channels with their teachers and classmates, consult the course calendar daily, find out about all the latest news, have within reach notes, teaching programmes and didactic foundations, consult, send and receive messages, etc., and

be up to date on everything that is going on in the IED Madrid (events, exhibitions, lectures, seminars) through a constantly updated diary. The IED Campus also has very accessible technology, which allows students to access a learning environment at any time or place and from any device with an Internet connection (computer, lap top, mobile or tablet). Connection with the IED Campus promotes a sense of community between students, teachers and the school. Sharing and debating the knowledge learned is the most efficient way to train in an attendance-based and online way.

(14)

T

F

ashion has become a social reference point, by means of which individuals communicate their values and define their own lifestyle, through profound reflection on the socio-cultural and anthropological context.

As a mass phenomenon, differences can be appreciated in the market. On the one hand, we identify the great luxury firms, experts in the art of selling design, which continue marking the importance of the dominant, aspirational impulse of the consumer society. On the other hand, in recent years and as a consequence of globalisation and the appearance of the new digital media, the textile sector has experienced a drastic transformation in retail.

All this has reduced the distance between the different agents who intervene in the manufacturing and distribution process, shortening the time from design of a garment to its arrival in the store, creating a concept of quick fashion which has changed this market system.

This trend, which can be extended to the world of accessories, textile design and other spheres connected to fashion, such as the cosmetic sector, is evolving more and more and obliges professionals in the sector to be up to date on all the changes, acquire a global and detailed vision and promote their professional, even international, careers

For this reason the training of the

IED Master in Fashion is based on the following objectives:

IED Master

facilitates

the necessary

successfully in the

fashion business

universe

• To give students a global vision of the fashion market, helping them to identify the characteristics and needs of each of its areas. • To guide training towards a professional

approach in order to explore the market properly.

• To foster the student’s creative identity in whatever functions he has to carry out in a company or as an entrepreneur.

Conscious of the needs demanded by the market, the programmes of the IED Master in Fashion facilitates the necessary knowledge and tools to move rigorously and successfully in the fashion business universe.

(16)

The IED Master is constantly in contact with the business world as part of its curriculum, with a relationship that runs parallel to the training course.

Teaching and business are intertwined in each of the courses, enriching the educational experience of the students with case studies, competitions, involvement in projects, etc. This link is consolidated in most programmes with the completion of a final project in which the student makes use of all the knowledge acquired during the course.

To promote these synergies, the IED Madrid has a Business Bureau where agreements with public and private entities are activated, to develop educational content as part of our Career Guidance. The aim is to facilitate access to the employment market and to create a network of professional contacts from the start of the academic year.
