iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus deliver innovation at every level. 3D Touch senses how

deeply you press on the display and brings a powerful new dimension to the way you

experience iPhone. The 12-megapixel iSight camera captures sharp, detailed photos

and 4K video while Live Photos gives you an entirely new way to relive your favorite

memories. Powered by the A9 chip and iOS 9, these groundbreaking technologies and

more make these the most advanced iPhones ever.

With the original iPhone, Apple introduced Multi-Touch and forever changed how

people interact with technology. iPhone 6s introduces 3D Touch—the next generation

of Multi-Touch. It senses how deeply you press the display, letting you do essential

things more quickly and simply. With Peek and Pop, you can go deeper into your content

without losing your place. With Quick Actions, you have shortcuts to the things you do

the most, right from the Home screen. When you use 3D Touch, your iPhone responds

with subtle taps, so not only will you see what a press can do—you’ll feel it.

The world’s most popular camera is now more advanced than ever. The 12-megapixel

iSight camera features advanced pixel technologies that enable higher resolution and

even better-looking photos. There is also better noise reduction for all scenes, ranging

from very low light to the brightest blue sky.

Live Photos is a new way to relive your favorite memories. It’s an innovative approach

to photography that captures the moments just before and after your still photo along

with movement and sound. Press anywhere on a Live Photo and it comes to life, letting

you experience that moment again. And you can view Live Photos on your other

Apple devices too.

With iPhone 6s, videos are even better with 4K video, which is up to four times the

resolution of 1080p HD video. Other advanced video capabilities include slo-mo in

1080p at 120 fps and Time-lapse with video stabilization. iPhone 6s Plus now has

optical image stabilization in video as well as stills. iPhone 6s will take even better

sel

fi

es with the 5MP FaceTime HD camera featuring Retina Flash.

Powering the iPhone experience is the Apple-designed A9 chip—our third-generation

chip with 64-bit desktop-class architecture. It is the most advanced chip ever in

a smartphone. The CPU is 70 percent faster than the prior generation. The GPU is

90 percent faster and provides console-class gaming so that you can enjoy more

responsive and lifelike games. For the

fi

rst time, the M9 motion coprocessor is

integrated into the A9 chip.

The smooth, continuous unibody design of iPhone 6s is made of 7000 Series

aluminum—the same grade used in the aerospace industry. The new cover glass

is the strongest in the smartphone industry. And now there are four stunning

fi

nishes to choose from: gold, silver, space gray, and the all-new rose gold.

iPhone 6s features LTE Advanced with speeds up to 300 Mbps.

1

That is twice as

fast as the previous generation. It supports up to 23 LTE bands, more than any other

smartphone. That means you can connect to even more high-speed LTE networks in

more places around the world. And when you’re connected to Wi-Fi, iPhone 6s has

data speeds that are twice as fast, up to 866 Mbps.

2

Touch ID is faster and better than ever so you can quickly and securely unlock your

iPhone. With Touch ID, you can also use Apple Pay at hundreds of thousands of stores

and within participating apps. Apple Pay is available in the United States and the

United Kingdom.

The new iPhone comes with iOS 9, an experience unlike any other, which brings

together an elegant and intuitive interface, powerful features, and robust security.

iOS 9 includes new Notes and News apps, new Proactive Assistant features, improved

Siri, Maps, CarPlay, Apple Pay, and more. iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus users can also

access the App Store, which off

ers more than 1.5 million apps—many of them free.

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. The only thing that’s changed is everything.

(5)

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus build on the beautiful and continuous design of iPhone 6

and deliver even more innovation and performance.

3D Touch

3D Touch introduces an entirely new way to interact with iPhone and your content.

iPhone 6s senses how deeply you press the display, and allows you to do all kinds of

things more quickly and simply. It gives you real-time feedback in the form of subtle

taps from the all-new Taptic Engine. 3D Touch, it feels incredibly natural, intuitive,

and essential.

Peek and Pop

In addition to familiar Multi-Touch gestures like Tap, Swipe, and Pinch, 3D Touch introduces

Peek and Pop, which let you preview all kinds of content and even act on it—without

having to actually open it. For example, you can Peek at an email in your inbox with a

light press. Then press a little deeper to Pop and see the full email.

3D Touch helps you get through the email in your inbox more quickly and effi ciently. To Peek at a message, just press it lightly.

The content of the email appears on top of your inbox. If it’s a short message and a Peek is all you need, simply stop pressing and you’re back in your inbox.

If you want more than a Peek, press a little deeper to Pop into the message for a full view—just as if you’d tapped to open it from your inbox.

(6)

Peek and Pop allow you to go deeper into your content without losing your place. For

example, if someone sends you a link in Messages, press lightly to Peek at its content.

If someone sends you a link to a website, you can Peek at it with-out leaving the screen you’re on.

Press the link lightly and the top of the page appears just as it would in Safari. Stop pressing and you’re back in your message.

If you want to open the full page in Safari, press the link a little deeper to Pop into it.

iOS automatically detects upcoming events, addresses, and

fl

ight numbers, so you can

quickly press on the link to see if you are free, where something is located, or the

fl

ight

status—all without leaving the app that you are in.

If someone sends you an address, you can Peek at it on a map with-out leaving the screen you’re on.

Press lightly on the link and the location will appear on top of the screen. Stop pressing and you’ll return to the screen where you found the address.

If you decide to explore the area in more detail, press a little deeper to Pop into a full map.

(7)

Quick Actions

Quick Actions let you do the things you do most often—but faster and in fewer steps.

You can start a message to your favorite contacts. Or instantly bring up the camera to

snap a selfi

e. Or immediately get directions home. Many of these actions can even be

done with a single press, right from the Home screen.

Start shooting video, selfi es, and more with just one press. Press the Camera icon on the Home screen, and you can immediately snap a selfi e, shoot a video, or even go straight into a camera mode such as slo-mo.

Get a conversation going faster than ever. Simply press Messages on the Home screen to begin a new message or quickly reach out to one of your favorite contacts.

Get where you’re going with fewer steps. Just press Maps to instantly get directions home, drop a pin on your current location and send it to a friend, or search what’s nearby.

Technology behind 3D Touch

To provide the nuanced e

ect of force being gradually applied and removed, 3D Touch

detects a dynamic range of pressure to a microscopic degree. When you press the

display, capacitive sensors instantly measure microscopic changes in the distance

between the cover glass and the backlight. iOS uses these measurements to provide

fast, accurate, and continuous response to finger pressure. Deep integration between

software and hardware makes this possible. iPhone 6s also provides you with

respon-sive feedback in the form of subtle taps, letting you know that it’s sensing the pressure

you’re applying.

Quick Actions can also be accessed

with Peek: Simply swipe up after

you Peek to bring up a menu of

commonly used actions.

Taptic Engine

The all-new Taptic Engine in iPhone 6s

provides responsive feedback in the form

of subtle taps. For example, when you Peek,

you feel a mini tap, and when you Pop, you

feel a full tap.

(8)

12MP iSight Camera

The new iSight camera captures beautiful 12-megapixel photos. It features a

state-of-the-art sensor, new Apple-designed image signal processor, advanced pixel technology,

and improved noise reduction. Every pixel in the sensor has been reengineered to

prevent crosstalk between the subpixels, so there are more pixels in the sensor for a

sharper photo that has less noise and truer color. All the technology works together

seamlessly so all you have to do is tap the Shutter button to take your best photos ever.

Improved noise reduction

iPhone 6s has even better noise reduction for all scenes, ranging from very low light

to the brightest blue sky. Temporal multi-band noise reduction in mid to low light

pro-vides greatly improved images with less noise and the sharpness of

fi

ne details in low

light. New advanced multi-band noise reduction in bright light distinguishes between

smooth areas and edges to intelligently de-noise smooth areas more while preserving

textures and edges.

Live Photos

Live Photos introduces an amazing new way to relive your favorite memories. At the

heart of a Live Photo is a beautiful 12-megapixel photo. But together with that photo

are the moments just before and after it was taken, along with any movement and

sound. To capture a Live Photo, press the Shutter button—just like you would for any

shot. It works with the iSight or the FaceTime HD camera. Catch your daughter making

silly faces just before the family photo. Or save the sound of the waves breaking on

the beach as the tide comes in. Live Photos is on by default so that you don’t miss

any moments.

To bring a Live Photo to life, simply press anywhere on the photo. You can even

set it as your Lock Screen wallpaper. And you can view Live Photos on your other

Apple devices too—including Apple Watch.

You can share Live Photos using iMessage, iCloud Photo Sharing, or AirDrop. And

you can view Live Photos on your other Apple devices too—including Apple Watch

running watchOS 2. And a Live Photo is sent as a still photo if you share it any other

way. Coming soon with our new API for Live Photos, developers will be able to add

app-to-app sharing of Live Photos as well.

See examples of Live Photos at

www.apple.com/iphone-6s/cameras.

(10)

Advanced Video Capabilities

The iSight camera has many new video capabilities, including shooting brilliant 4K video

and smoother time-lapse videos with new video stabilization. With iPhone 6s Plus, you

can record amazing videos in lower light with optical image stabilization.

4K

The world’s most popular camera now takes amazing 4K video for all of life’s moments.

You can record moments in a resolution of 3840 by 2160—that’s four times higher than

1080p HD video. You can even zoom in on the 8 million pixels while you’re shooting

or playing back your 4K videos to see the incredible detail. 4K video supports video

stabilization, continuous autofocus, face detection, and the ability to take an amazing

8MP still while recording.

Slo-mo

Now you can capture your slo-mo video in even more detail in 1080p at 120 fps. If you

want to slow it down more, record in 720p at 240 fps.

Time-lapse video with stabilization

Time-lapse video mode was introduced with iPhone 6 and people created incredible

time-lapse movies of sunrises, clouds fl

oating across the sky, and traffi

c zooming by.

New video stabilization in Time-lapse mode lets you take smooth video even if your

hands aren’t steady.

Optical image stabilization on iPhone 6s Plus

iPhone 6 Plus introduced optical image stabilization, a unique integration of hardware

and software that allows you to capture beautiful low-light photos without any extra

work on your part. With iPhone 6s Plus, optical image stabilization is now available

for videos in addition to photos. So you can shoot even smoother videos in lower light.

4

K

(11)

iMovie app

Shoot 4K video of your next adventure with iPhone 6s, and use the newest version of

iMovie for iOS to edit and share them with the world. With a few simple taps, you can

send them to YouTube at 4K resolution. And iPhone 6s is so powerful that you can

even smoothly edit two streams of 4K video to create eff

ects like picture-in-picture

and split screen—a challenge for many PCs.

5MP FaceTime HD Camera

The FaceTime HD camera now supports 5MP photos, so your selfi

es will look even better.

You can also capture Live Photos with the FaceTime HD camera. And, of course, your

video calls look great too.

4

The Retina HD display now acts as a fl

ash for your FaceTime HD camera. When you

snap a selfie, a prefl

ash detects the lighting around you. Then a True Tone fl

ash on

the display matches the ambient light for a gorgeous shot with more true-to-life

colors and more natural-looking skin tones. Retina Flash is powered by an innovative

technology—a custom display chip that allows the display to fl

ash three times brighter

than usual.

(12)

A9 Chip with Integrated M9 Motion Coprocessor

The Apple-designed A9 chip is the third-generation chip with 64-bit desktop-class

architecture. It brings a higher level of performance and e

ciency to iPhone 6s and

enables incredible new features. This is the most advanced chip ever in a smartphone.

The A9 chip delivers 70 percent faster CPU performance than the A8 chip. It also delivers

90 percent faster GPU performance and is capable of console-class gaming.

The M9 motion coprocessor is embedded in the A9 chip, and o

oads tasks from the A9.

It also connects to the advanced sensors for a wide range of

fi

tness-tracking capabilities.

So you can now measure your running with iPhone 6s.

The integrated M9 works so e

ciently and intelligently that Siri is always on and waiting

for your voice commands. You can easily activate Siri by saying “Hey Siri” whenever your

iPhone 6s is nearby.

Design

iPhone 6s pushes a breakthrough design even further with all-new materials. The

enclosure is made of 7000 Series aluminum—the same grade used in the aerospace

industry. Created from a unique composition of elements for incredible strength, this

custom alloy is the strongest alloy ever used in an iPhone. And now it comes in an

all-new rose gold

fi

nish in addition to silver, space gray, and gold.

iPhone 6s also features the strongest cover glass in the smartphone industry. The glass

is chemically strengthened using a special dual ion-exchange process.

Both iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus feature the stunning Retina HD displays with

3D Touch. Apps, photos, and more look vibrant and sharp thanks to high-contrast,

dual-domain pixels and accurate colors.

Faster LTE and Wi-Fi

iPhone 6s lets you browse the web, download apps and games, and stay connected

with the people who matter to you. Now you can do all those things up to twice

as fast with LTE Advanced

1

(up to 300 Mbps). And iPhone 6s supports up to 23 LTE

bands—the most in any smartphone—for better worldwide roaming.

iPhone 6s now supports 802.11ac with MIMO for even faster Wi-Fi. This Wi-Fi technology

is up to twice as fast when you’re connected to Wi-Fi for data speeds up to 866 Mbps.

2

Wi-Fi Calling is now available in even more markets around the world and is great for

when you don’t have a good cellular signal. Starting with iOS 9, on supported carriers

you can make and receive calls on your iOS, Apple Watch, and Mac devices using your

iPhone number.

And with Bluetooth 4.2 technology, you’ll stay connected to your Apple Watch, external

speakers, and hundreds of other devices.

Faster Touch ID

Touch ID has made unlocking your phone simple—and now with its new sensor, it is

up to 2x faster. Touch ID can also be used for purchases from the iTunes Store, iBooks

Store, and App Store. Developers have broadly adopted Touch ID for authentication in

their apps too.

You can also use Touch ID and Apple Pay to pay in stores with your iPhone 6s in the

United States and the United Kingdom.

VoLTE

iPhone 6s models support Voice over LTE

(VoLTE) for wideband high-quality calls.

VoLTE is now supported in even more

markets.

(14)

iPhone Accessories

Apple designs the cases and accessories at the same time as the iPhone itself, so you

get the best experience out of both. New leather and silicone cases are available as

well as color-matched docks.

Leather Cases

Made from premium, hand-selected European tanned leather, each leather case looks

and feels luxurious. The leather fits perfectly over the curved form of iPhone 6s and

iPhone 6s Plus with a color-matched microfiber interior to keep your phone—and its

camera—beautifully protected. All without adding bulk. They come in midnight blue,

saddle brown, rose gray, brown, and black.

Silicone Cases

The silicone cases are designed to cover iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, while still

maintaining the slim form of the phones. The camera stays protected just beneath

the case, while a soft microfiber lining cushions the enclosure. Each perfectly

form-fitting case has a smooth finish that feels as good as it looks. The color choices are

exquisite: white, charcoal gray, stone, antique white, blue, turquoise, midnight blue,

lavender, pink, (PRODUCT)RED, and orange.

(PRODUCT)RED

When customers buy (PRODUCT)RED

merchandise, Apple gives a portion of

the proceeds to the Global Fund to

fi

ght

AIDS in Africa.

(15)

Lightning Docks

Use the iPhone Lightning Dock to charge and sync any iPhone with a Lightning

connector. Your iPhone sits upright in the dock as it syncs or charges, so it’s perfect

for a desk or countertop. Even when your iPhone is in an Apple-designed case, it’s

easy to dock. And you can unlock iPhone or use Touch ID without having to remove

it from the dock. The iPhone Lightning Dock also features an audio port, so you can

use headphones or connect your iPhone to powered speakers while it’s charging. It

now comes in four color-matched fi

nishes: gold, silver, space gray, and rose gold.

(16)

iOS 9 brings together an elegant and intuitive interface, powerful features, and robust

security. It’s designed to work as beautifully as it looks. So you can enjoy everything

you do—on a device that does everything.

Both iPhone models come with iOS 9, which delivers a simpler, faster, and more intuitive

user experience with new Notes and News apps and Proactive Assistant features, Siri,

Maps, CarPlay, Apple Pay, and more.

Intelligence

iPhone becomes more intelligent and proactive with powerful search and improved

Siri features—all without compromising users’ privacy.

5

Proactive assistance

Proactive assistance presents the most relevant information even before you start

typing—automatically suggesting apps to launch or people to contact based on your

usage patterns. Siri will even keep an eye on tra

c, and alert you when it’s time to

leave for your next meeting across town. iOS 9 learns what you typically listen to in a

certain location or at a particular time of day, so when you plug in headphones at the

gym or hop in the car before work, it can automatically display playback controls for

your preferred music and audio apps.

Siri improvements

Siri features an all-new design in iOS 9. Find your personal photos and videos more

easily by searching with your voice based on dates, locations and album names. For

example, you can say, “Show me videos from last Christmas” or “Show me pics from

Hawaii last August.” There are also contextual reminders. So you can ask Siri to remind

you about things you’re looking at in your apps, including Safari, Mail, Notes, Messages,

and more.

For a list of languages supported in Siri, visit www.apple.com/iphone-6s/specs.

Search improvements

Search is even more powerful. Find sports scores, weather conditions, and stock prices.

Or do simple math calculations and conversions from Search. When your search results

include contacts, you can initiate messages, phone calls, or FaceTime calls right from

those results.

4

(17)

Built-in Apps

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have the essential apps and features that you need

already installed, including the brand-new News app, redesigned Notes app, and

updated Maps. You can also access the App Store, which o

ers more than 1.5 million

apps—many of them free.

3

News

The News app delivers beautifully designed stories from the best sources, selected

just for you. News lets you read your favorite newspapers, magazines, and blogs, or

choose your own topics to follow. News learns your interests based on what you read

and suggests relevant content that’s easily shareable with friends or saved for later. It

delivers the best articles from a variety of publishers and a wide selection of topics to

help you personalize your reading experience—all presented in an elegant, uncluttered

design. Articles in News can have beautiful typography and layouts, photo galleries,

videos, animations, and more. Apple News Format allows publishers to create beautiful

editorial layouts for iOS users. News app availability varies by country.

Notes

Notes has always been the best way to jot down a quick thought and keep track of

it for later. Now it’s easy to save other important items into your notes as well. Want

to quickly save a web page from Safari? Or maybe an important address from Maps?

Simply tap Share to save the item directly into a note. Want to add a photo? You can

now access your camera from within any note. You can even draw a quick sketch

using just your

fi

nger. The new Attachments Browser lets you scan through all of your

attachments visually, so you can quickly

fi

nd what you’re looking for. And thanks to

iCloud, when you create a note on one device, it will instantly be available on your

other devices as well.

6

Maps

Maps adds support for metropolitan transit systems and schedules.

7

Now you can see

exactly where subway station entrances and exits are. From the New York City subway

to London’s Underground, the directions are shown in a way that matches the signs

that you will see in each station. When you plan your trip, Maps can o

er a combination

of trains, subways, buses, and walking, helping you navigate every step of your trip.

Looking for a place to go for dinner or drinks? With the new Nearby feature, you quickly

see what’s around by tapping categories such as Food or Drinks. Dive even deeper and

explore even more categories within Food, such as Cafés, Restaurants, and Bakeries.

And now you can tell if a retailer supports Apple Pay by looking at its details.

Apple Pay

Last year, we introduced Apple Pay, enabling you to easily and securely make purchases

with your iPhone in stores and within apps. With iOS 9, you can use Apple Pay to

make purchases with your Discover card. And now you can just double-click the Home

button when your iPhone is locked to access Wallet and quickly pay with Apple Pay.

Apple Pay is available in the United States and United Kingdom.

(18)

Foundation

iOS is the foundation of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iOS 9 makes that foundation

even stronger with re

fi

nements including improved battery life, enhanced security

features, even better performance and convenient software updates.

Improved battery life

iOS 9 has battery optimization that provides a typical user with an additional hour

of battery life.

8

There is also a low-power mode to help further extend battery life.

Low power mode extends the battery life of your iPhone while still being able to use

key functions like making and receiving phone calls, emails, messages, accessing the

Internet, and more. When enabled, low power mode reduces display brightness,

optimizes performance, and minimizes system animations.

Security

Security has always been important. In addition to the security of the second-generation

Touch ID, the default passcode length on iPhone 6s is now six digits instead of four.

With one million possible combinations, instead of 10,000, your passcode will be even

stronger. You can also enable two-factor authentication. When you sign in from a new

browser or on a new device, you are prompted for a veri

fi

cation code, which is

automat-ically displayed on your other Apple devices or sent to your iPhone.

9

This means you

can quickly gain access to your iCloud account, while unauthorized users are kept out.

Performance

Metal was introduced last year with iOS 8. Many game developers took advantage

of this API to improve their performance. With iOS 9, animation and motion e

ects, as

well as content in websites, Mail, and PDFs, now all use Metal for better responsiveness

and performance. Now, with Metal, iOS has up to 50 percent greater rendering

e

ciency in apps, like Mail and Safari.

Software updates

iOS updates are free and convenient and now require less space to install.

10

You can

download wirelessly on your iPhone. And if you prefer to update your device later,

there is an Install Later feature that will perform updates to your device when it is

not in use.
