READING LIST
Compiled by Sally Michael
The following books are recommended books for passing on values or just for fun! This is not meant to be a comprehensive list but rather a starting point to help parents and children choose wholesome books. The age recommendations will vary depending on whether the child is reading the book himself or an adult is reading it to the child. The recommendations in the list are based on a child reading the book himself.
Preschool books have not been included—Due to their brevity, they are easy for a parent to quickly read and evaluate. Many preschool books are merely instructional (counting, colors, etc.) or fun; others (such as many of the Dr. Seuss books) are good tools for parents to use in passing on their values.
Most of the books on this list are fictional works, as parents more closely need to evaluate works of fiction than nonfiction.
