THE ELECTION IS
ABOUT THE FUTURE
The 2010 election is all about the future. What we want Sweden to be.
Moderaterna want Sweden to continue to be a country where it pays to work and where businesses are allowed to grow. A country where everyone is needed, and where everyone can create their own fu-ture through their own work. That’s why we will ensure that there are more jobs.
We want Sweden to be a country in good economic shape. This is essential in order to safeguard jobs and wel-fare. And it’s important so that we can be prepared when new challenges arise.

and is there to support us when we need it. A country with high quality preschools, schools, healthcare and care for the elderly. And a country with a legal system that is strong enough to stand up to violence, crime and drugs.
Moderaterna love Sweden. That’s why we want to use politics to continue Sweden’s development. So that more people can do themselves justice and share in all that is good about our country. We believe that the best is yet to come for Sweden, if we move forwards together and continue to take responsibility. If we continue to show consideration for each other. Then the Sweden of the future will be stronger than ever before.
We want your support in the election on 19 September in order to continue our work to build a better Sweden.

ONLY A WORKER’S PARTY
CAN TACKLE EMPLOYMENT
Jobs are the key issue for our future.
Our policies involve bringing Sweden back to full employment. Through more people working, we can improve the quality of welfare. Only jobs guarantee long-term pension growth. During our mandate period, we have started to replace a welfare line with an employment line. Our working tax credit means that a nurse can now receive almost SEK 1,750 more each month. In a leading country, people should be able to afford to be teachers, nursing assistants or librarians. That’s why we want to keep
mak-ing it pay to work. Sweden needs more businesses, and more companies taking on new employees. We want to make running a business more attractive, and to make employing people less expensive. We also
want to keep the allowances for household ser-vices – ROT and RUT – which have made many black market jobs legitimate.
The conditions for running a business anywhere in Sweden need to be improved. We are doing this by investing in infrastructure, simplifying the

rules and regulations for companies, and keep-ing nuclear power.
Those who have been made unemployed should always get professional help to return to work. We also want to prioritise investments to counter youth unemployment. It must be easier for Swe-den’s young people to get jobs.
We have taken responsibility for the Swedish economy during the financial crisis. We have safeguarded the core of our welfare system. Nevertheless, the economic recovery is extreme-ly fragile. We will therefore continue to protect the Swedish economy against those who want to dismantle the employment line and increase the deficit.

ALL SWEDISH
SCHOOLS MUST
ACHIEVE EXCELLENT RESULTS
In a leading country, every pupil should get a good start in life. But for many years, Swedish schools have failed to perform as well as they should. As a result, it is those pupils who need extra support who suffer the most.
We want to keep improving schools so that no pupils fail. Earlier assessment is needed if teachers are to be able to help those pupils who are experiencing difficulties. We also want to make better use of young children’s love of learning. That’s why we want to sharpen the
preschool focus on teaching methods and knowledge. By combining play with educational content, preschools can con-tinue to be a place for both playing and learning.
Moderaterna want high quality tax-financed
health-care that is available to everyone, throughout Sweden. During the next mandate period we need to continue our work to improve access to

healthcare for all. We want to reduce waiting times through a statutory, more clearly defined healthcare guarantee. Healthcare should be fair. Healthcare should therefore be just as quick and of equally high quality wherever people live in Sweden.
Healthcare workers do a fantastic job, but they often work in bureaucratic, difficult environ-ments. We want every school, every hospital and every old people’s home to be an attractive workplace. Good use should be made of every employee’s commitment. We can achieve this through shorter decision paths and additional further training. Pay should correspond to train-ing and proficiency.

A SAFE SWEDEN
NEEDS MORE THAN
JUST MORE POLICE
Everyone should feel safe as a matter of course. The best way of achieving this is through policies that both tackle the causes of crime and react with force when crime is com-mitted. This year, Sweden will have more than 20,000 police officers. That’s over 2,800 more than four years ago. Now we want to continue to make Sweden a safer country in which to grow up and live.
Safety involves more than just more police officers, but it is still important that the police are visible and pres-ent in everyday life – throughout the country. Everyone in Sweden should be able to feel safe. We also want to ensure that the punishment is reasonable in proportion to the crime.

The legal system needs to be made more effec-tive and deal with cases more quickly.
Early initiatives to combat youth criminality today will prevent serious crime in the future. We therefore want to focus on preventive mea-sures.
Through more people working and better schools, we can try to address the root causes of crime. When young people commit crimes, there should always be clear consequences. More local police officers in residential areas where crime is a problem can make life safer for those who live there.
