John H. Samies, MD, FSHEA, CWS is a board certified specialist in Infectious Diseases and Inter-nal medicine with more than 25 years of experience in the treatment of acute and chronic wounds. He is the hospital epidemiologist and Director of the Center for Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, SC. He is a fellow of the Society of Healthcare Epidemiolo-gists of America. He has an active clinical practice in Infectious Disease Medicine and Wound Care. He serves as a consultant for Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence. His clinical and research interests are in wound infections and infection control in wound care .

FACULTY

Thomas E. Serena MD FACS FACHM MAPWCA is the Founder and Medical Director of Serena Group™, a family of wound, hyperbaric and research companies, is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The College of William and Mary and Penn State Medical School. He completed his residency in Surgery at The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center with fellowship training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Southern IL. University. He is recognized internationally as an expert in the field of wound healing: He has 100 published papers and has given more than 350 invited lectures throughout the world. He consults for numerous wound care industrial partners in the development of new products for the wound care space. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Wound Healing Society. In 2009 he was elected Vice-President of the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine. He also currently serves on the board for the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care and the American Professional Wound Care Associ-ation.

Marie L. Gehling, MSN, NP-C , is the a board certified family nurse

practi-tioner with over 20 years of experience in wound care. She has been credentialed as a CWOCN since 1992 and practices with Dr Samies in wound care and Infectious Disease Medicine at the Center for Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, SC. She was elected Southeast Region WOCN Nurse of the Year for 2012 and has presented numerous educational lectures and research posters and publications on advanced wound care topics. She serves as a consultant for Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence.

Teresa J. Kelechi, PhD, RN, GCNS, CWCN, FAAN is the David and Margaret Clare Endowed Chair and a Professor in the College of Nursing, Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Dr. Kelechi has been employed at MUSC since 1987 as a geriatric and wound care provider until 2001 when she joined the College of Nursing. Her primary focus as a nurse scientist is venous and foot leg ulcer pre-vention using cooling therapy. She also specializes in infrared technology to predict the development of ulcers and teaches patients techniques to self monitor and self manage their skin problems. Dr. Kelechi practices in a residential care facility, where she provides foot care and geriatric consultation. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and an active member of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses Society, Sigma Theta Tau International, Southern Nurses Research Society, Society for Vascular Nursing, and the American Nurses Association.

Kathleen D. Schaum MS, is the president and founder of her own reimbursement strategy consult-ing company. In that capacity, she brconsult-ings more than 40 years of Medicare reimbursement knowledge and experience to wound care professionals who wish to improve their businesses. Kathleen conducts the very popular Wound Clinic Business seminar which travels to 10 cities throughout the US every year and which provides up-to-the- minute reimbursement information for hospital based outpatient wound care de-partments and the qualified healthcare professionals who work there. Kathleen has published nearly 300 wound care reimbursement related articles. Every month for the past 14 years, Kathleen has authored a regular Payment Strategies column in Advances in Skin & Wound Care. In addition, Kathleen is one of the founding editorial board members of the journal, Today’s Wound Clinic, where she has shared reim-bursement information in her In Business column for the past 7 years.

Carolyn H. Cuttino, BSN, RN, CWCN is a board certified wound care nurse and practiced at the Medical University of South Carolina for over 36 years. She now heads Carolina Wound Manage-ment, a consulting company that provides education and wound management to skilled care facilities and industry. Carolyn is one of the founding directors of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) and presently is on the planning committee for the Symposium of Advanced Wound Care. She has numerous wound care publications and has lectured extensively throughout the country on wound management. She was the 2009 recipient of the Symposium of Advanced Wound Care Founders Award, given for contributions towards the success of the symposium and the advancement of wound care. She provides education, facility assessments, and assistance with

is the Vice President of Clinical Research & Physician Education for Serena Groups.

He is board certified as a wound specialist by the Wound Ostomy and Continence Nursing Society as both a Certified Wound Care Nurse and Certified Foot Care Nurse, American Academy of Wound Management as a Certified Wound Specialist, and is Wound Care Certified and Diabetic Wound Care Certified by the National Alliance of Wound Care, in addition Jim is certified by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine as an Advance Certified Hyperbaric Nurse. He is a Fellow of the College of Certified Wound Specialists (FCCWS) as well as a Diplomat of the American Pro-fessional Wound Care Association (DAPWCA) and past President of the Baromedical Nurses Asso-ciation. James retired from the US Navy, where he served as a saturation diver and held the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. James is a recognized expert on advanced wound healing and hyperbar-ic medhyperbar-icine and has lectured throughout North Amerhyperbar-ica. He is versed in all aspects of inpatient, out-patient, and home health wound care. James co-edited the first nursing text book on "Hyperbaric Nursing and Wound Care" and is the only nurse in the United Stated to have been published in Jour-nal of the American Medical Association.

Pamela Semp Connnor PT, WCC, CLT, has been employed at RMC since 1988. She is the des-ignated Physical Therapist for the Advanced Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center. Her treatments consist of various modalities to promote wound healing, with Ultrasonic Mist being the most fre-quently used. Being lymphedema certified, her caseload consists not only of wound patients but also those suffering from edema. She is a member of APTA. Pamela also practices on a PRN basis at the area nursing facilities .
