Heavy Weapons:

We hope to resume outdoor practices in April. In the meantime, fighters can continue to hone their skills with our bothers (and sisters) to the West. Capt. Oscad de Segovia and the fight-ers of Ostgardr have graciously opened their fight practice to all membfight-ers of An Dubhaigeainn. They meet in Brooklyn at Quality Conservation, 140 58th Street, Bldg. A, Unit 8M on Sundays from noon until about

four pm.

The site is indoors - a large warehouse with plenty or room, so even polearms are fine. There is also plenty of parking within a fenced and guarded lot. For those taking public transportation, the site is two to three blocks from the R/N train stop at 59th Street.

There is only one entrance and that is on the corner of 58th and 1st. As you enter, Building A is on the right (near the water). Let the guard know that you are going to a meeting at the Quality Conservation building. There is even some storage for fighters who might want to leave their equipment in the warehouse if they don’t want to transport it every week.

Non-fighters are welcome to attend. There are bathrooms and a drinking fountain readily available and a number of locals have even been bringing food. There are plenty of chairs and no floor fees. There are also a number of restaurants within walking distance of the site.

Google Maps

Walking in: You don't really need to check with the gate guard. You will be able to see the front doors. En-ter, wave/talk to the guard, and head down the hall to

the elevators. Take them to the 8th floor, and turn left.

Driving in: Talk to the nice guard, turn right down the 'hill'. At the bottom, you will curve left, and there will be a large rust colored awning. Under the awning is a door. After parking, go through that door, about 50' down on the left is a door to the elevators. Take one to the 8th floor and turn left.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Best contact method is via RobertEsteves@gmail.com

Archery & thrown weapons

As the weather continues to warm up, we hope to resume outdoor practices on March 22 and 29 at the home of Dina and Mark Wolyniec. Please call before coming in case plans change. 631-924-6968. Loaner equipment should be available for all those interested. If you’ve never thrown a spear, axe or knife, now’s your chance to try it out in a safe and supportive environment. There is also an outdoor space for archers and archer wannabe’s. Come in comfortable street clothes, and remember we’re outdoors so dress accordingly. We generally do potluck, so please bring some food to share and a beverage of your choice.

Archers can also continue to hone their skills on Tuesday evenings at an indoor range in Hicksville. Contact Peter of Hawkwoods (Pete Farrell) for further information. (631) 754-8977 before 9PM, or

pfarrell27@yahoo.com

Fencing Practice

Remember, we have new practice space at 640 Belle Terre Rd., Building F, in Port

Jeffer-son. As noted, practice for fencers is Friday evenings, 7:30-10 PM. Some loaner gear may be available if requested beforehand. If you’re

curious, come see what we’re all about!

Our own Lord Alexander MacLachlan and Baron Don Jean Xavier Boul-lier represented the Barony at King and Queen's Rapier Championship held in the Barony of Bhakail on February 28 in Pennsylvania.! The first part of the tournament had fifty-seven fencers broken into groups of seven for a round robin to seed a fencer's ranking in the field.! The sec-ond part leading to the finals was a single elimination tourney.! Baron Don Jean Xavier made it to the top sixteen before losing to Baron Don Jean-Paul Justen Casse.

In the end, Don Caine Ramsey won King's Champion and Master Tho-mas de Castellan was selected by Her Majesty as!Queen's!Rapier Cham-pion.

Ostgardr made a fantastic showing!by fielding eight fencers that day, one of whom made it to the top eight fencers. Vivat! (archival photo of our fencers)

Greetings Members of An Dubhaigeainn and other friends:

Winter shows that it’s not quite done yet. We left Bear's Tavern while the snow was falling. Hope-fully by the time you read this, temperatures will be rising with Spring around the corner. By the way, for those of you who have not had the opportunity to see it, the site used for Bear’s Tavern is beautiful.

Speaking of events, the Barony’s Schola event is coming up at the end of the month at the Elk’s Lodge in Riverhead. We cannot stress enough our request that you attend. It promises to be a wonderful event with several of the classes be-ing taught by members who are makbe-ing a spe-cial trip out to our Barony just for this occasion. The class list is exciting and varied and a lot of talent is available for you this day. Please take advantage of it. Hopefully our yurt does not need to be set up in snow.

Next on the calendar, we all have Balfour's Chal-lenge to look forward to. Currently there is no overall team score, but that should not stop us from going up there to enjoy the day.

On another note, we hope that you all know that we encourage you to nominate people for awards. Not only is it your right to do so, but we appreciate when members of the barony are honored for their efforts and would like to support them. All we ask is that you let us know that you are doing this so we are not surprised by it. A private word in our ear or a phone call is all that is needed. Thank you in advance for the courtesy.

Again, we enjoy this position where we can serve you, and let us know if we can help your SCA ex-perience.

In Service,

Ateno and Lassar

Baron and Baroness An Dubhaigeainn
