FLORIDA STOPS SKID WITH 3-2 VICTORY OVER JUPITER: In a night that featured 29 strikeouts, the Florida Fire Frogs

came out victorious in a 3-1 final over the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Monday night, snap-ping a seven-game losing streak.

Ian Anderson (2-5) and Jordan Yamamoto (4-1) exchanged blows throughout the series opener, with the Fire Frogs’ starter out dueling the Hammerheads’ right-hander with six shutout innings. Kurt Hoekstra drove home the game-winning runs with a two-run single in the fourth to give the Fire Frogs a 2-0 advantage.

FINDING HIS GROOVE: Ian Anderson fired in his fifth quality start of the season, and fourth in his last five starts on Monday

night, scattering three hits while walking one and tying a career- and team-record with 11 strikeouts...The native of Rexford, N.Y. set down six consecutive batters on strikes from the final two outs of the third until the start of the fifth, and recorded strikeouts to nine of the final twelve batters faced...Since the start of June, the Atlanta Braves’ fourth-ranked prospect (MLB. com) has posted a 2-3 record, but has an ERA of just 2.21 over 11 games by allowing 14 earned runs in 57 innings of work.

• Following his retirement from his professional playing career in 2012, he joined the Tigers as the pitching coach with Single-A

Lakeland, a position he held for three straight seasons.

• Originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 1998 First-Year Player Draft, Maroth was a part of five

different organizations during his 13-year playing career, including Boston (1998-99), Detroit (1999-2007), St. Louis (2007),

Kansas City (2008) and Minnesota (2010)…He also spent two seasons (2009 and 2011) with Mayaguez of the Puerto Rican

Winter League.

• Maroth’s Major League playing career spanned six seasons from 2002 to 2007, and included a pair of organizations, Detroit (2002-07) and the

St. Louis Cardinals (2007)…He made 161 appearances at the Major League level during his career, including 150 starts… Maroth compiled a

50-67 career record and a 5.05 ERA, and won a career-best 14 games with the Tigers in 2015.
