How Title I Works

The federal government provides funding to

states each year for Title I.

The Florida Department of Education sends the

money to the district.

The school district identifies eligible schools and

provides Title I funds.

Somerset Neighborhood and Somerset

Preparatory implement a school wide Title I

program. This means that all students receives the

benefits of our Title I funding.

SUPPLEMENTAL SUPPORT

Additional teachers and paraprofessionals;

Additional training for school staff;

Extra time for instruction (Before and/or after school

programs);

Parental Engagement Activities; and/or

A variety of supplemental teaching methods and

materials

WHAT IS THE “EVERY STUDENT

SUCCEEDS ACT”?

Education Act signed into law in 2015 that aims to:

Provide state standards for all students that are aligned to the demands of postsecondary education and the workforce;

Provide Statewide assessments that are aligned to statewide standards;

Ensure that statewide accountability systems expect more progress for all groups of

students, especially for those that are

underperforming.

Provide public reporting on the academic outcomes and opportunities to improve learning for all groups of students;

Improve the quality and effectiveness of teachers and school leaders to increase student academic achieveme nt; and Continue providing equitable federal funding to economically disadvantaged students.

School Advisory Council

ASSISTS IN PREPARATION AND EVALUATION OF THE

SCHOOL WIDE PLAN.

DECIDES HOW SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT FUNDS ARE

SPENT.

MAKING SUGGESTIONS RELATING TO THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE SCHOOL IN ALL AREAS.

SAC MEETINGS ARE HELD QUARTERLY.

STUDENTS ARE NOTIFIED OF SAC MEETINGS BY DISTRIBUTION OF FLYERS, PARENT LINK NOTIFICATIONS,

TEACHER EMAILS AND THE SOMERSET SCHOOL WEBSITE.

Parent’s Rights

Be involved and request regular meetings to expression your opinions and concerns;

on your child’s level of

achievement on assessments like FSA/EOC assessments in reading/language arts, mathematics, and science;

Request and receive information on the qualifications of your

child’s teacher; and

Be informed if your child is taught by a non-highly qualified teacher for four or more

consecutive weeks.

Reduced Breakfast=$0.30 Reduced Lunch= $0.40

Lunch pin number and student ID number will be

emailed by your child's homeroom teacher..

Complete Free/Reduced Lunch Forms to benefit your

child and the school. Only one application per family.

Last year's lunch eligibility is valid for 30 days or until a

Attendance Policy

Please see Broward County School’s Policy 5.5 for more detailed information.

• Be on time to school ev ery day! You must report to ev ery class scheduled for the day on

time.

• The maximum number of days that a student may be absent without acceptable

documentation justifying the absence is 5.

• Unless acceptable documentation is presented/submitted, an accumulation of daily

absences (excused or unexcused), by tardiness, or early sign-outs that equals 5 days (30 hours) in a marking period or 10 days (60 hours) within two marking periods may establish a pattern of non-attendance.

• If the student exhibits a pattern of nonattendance, principals may request documentation

for subséquent absences. (F.S. 1003.24(4)) Non-attendance for instructional activ ities is established by tardiness, early-sign-outs, or absences for all or any part of the day.

ZOOM Guide for Families

 Log on 2-3 minutes before your meeting time

 Set up your student in a well-lit area away from noise and distraction  The ideal area is:

 a table & chair, facing away from telev isions/electronics

 a room separate from where family business is occurring (not in a busy kitchen or a

loud liv ing room)

 Make sure your student is wearing appropriate clothing and is comfortable.

 Minimize the need for breaks, and maximize learning time by having your child eat prior to the

meeting, sit with a cup of water to drink, and hav e them use the restroom beforehand.

 You are welcome to sit beside your child to support them. Help them, and their teacher, by

keeping your child seated, keeping the camera stabilized, and reminding them to follow directions. Please do not giv e them answers to questions or worry about their performance. They are here to learn and are not expected to answer ev erything correctly.

 If the connection is spotty, or in the ev ent of technical difficulties, please exit the meeting and
