Our Culture

Corporate Values

We trust that our image is one of an open, professional, meritocratic company which is committed to delivering high quality recruitment solutions to our clients. This means being focused, determined and hard working, but not associated with mindlessly aggressive sales, unprofessional business tactics or prioritising short-term gain over long-term success. We ultimately see ourselves as a company which holds shared values, as McGregor Boyall employees and to that of our clients.

A company’s culture is not something that is created overnight. It is the result of consistent values

influencing its development over a long period. It is also a reflection of the kinds of people who have joined the company and helped to continuously reshape its personality.

At McGregor Boyall we believe our core values form the foundation for shaping the way we work and our company culture:

Quality - In the way we build and maintain our relationships, along with delivering services of the

highest calibre

Integrity - We believe in doing the right thing, we say what we mean and take responsibility for our

actions

Collaboration - Internally, we welcome a degree of healthy competition fostered by high levels of

individual performance, but we also encourage and expect a genuine commitment to team playing and corporate goals

Expertise - We are committed to enhancing the skills & knowledge needed for successful business

To ensure our values are embedded across our organisation they are integrated into everything we do; internal recruitment, induction training, company policies, training & development, work behaviour and best practice.

When recruiting new employees we look for individuals who naturally share these values – but we also fully expect them to contribute to our future success in a way which is unique to them.

Spotlight on

Danni McCarter - Consultant, Commerce & Industry

As part of our trainee intake, Danni joined our expanding Commerce & Industry Division as a Resourcer in August 2012.

Recruitment appealed to Danni’s competitive nature, particularly the meritocratic environment that offered her the chance to manage her own income and progression. She is an excellent example of the progression path of a Trainee Resourcer at McGregor Boyall - within nine months she made the transition from

Resourcer to Consultant. Whilst initially focused on candidate management, she gradually took on more responsibility and was given exposure to the entire end-to-end recruitment process.

As part of her training, she was given the opportunity to accompany Senior Consultants, from all areas of the business, to client visits and briefings. Such hands-on exposure really helped Danni to appreciate the ‘step-up’ required to become a Consultant and allowed her to develop her own personal style of client management, rather than following a predetermined script.

She is now a successful Consultant in our Commerce & Industry team and is responsible for both account management and business development.

“I love being part of an established company which supports my goals to build a solid desk within the Commerce & Industry space. I want to be

consistent in my success and continue to build great relationships with candidates and clients – I just wish that someone had told me about

Henny Schipper - Associate Director, Tech SME

Henny joined McGregor Boyall in 2004 as a Resourcer after deciding on a complete career change from his previous role within hospitality. After a year as a Resourcer, Henny became an Associate Consultant shadowing more senior members of staff to develop his client side skills at a steady pace and in April 2005 he was given his first client to manage which involved working on a variety of IT Infrastructure roles. Henny is a great example of our flexible and open approach to new ideas – and our policy of really

empowering our employees. With no dedicated Infrastructure department at the time, he expressed a keen interest in developing a separate division focusing on these types of roles. After speaking to his Manager, he was given the opportunity to present his ideas to the Managing Director who gave advice on how to present the idea to the rest of the company – and how to get buy-in from other divisions who may have felt that they were having vacancies taken away from them. He developed his own business plan for the division, presented it to the whole company and is now the Associate Director running a team of six people.

David Hagan - Senior Consultant, Marketing

David joined the Marketing team at McGregor Boyall in 2011 as a Resourcer after working at a well-known retail bank in a sales role. He was attracted to recruitment because it had all of the elements that he

enjoyed at his previous role - sales, money and competition - but it also allowed him the opportunity to join a company that was people focused, not product based.

When he interviewed at McGregor Boyall, David was impressed and motivated by the Consultants he met and the mature working environment that was on offer. As opposed to hard KPIs and selling, the focus was on account management, business development, quality service and relationships. This made McGregor Boyall stand out against our competitors and David believed that there was a real career opportunity to work alongside people with the same corporate values and goals.

After working as a Resourcer for nine months, David was given a tailored development plan to guide his progression to Consultant. He received regular one-to-one mentoring from his Head of Division which, coupled with his personal dedication to his role, resulted in his promotion to consultant in September 2012.

“I felt that other consultancies were merely dangling the money carrot intimating that if you made lots of money for them quickly then you would

succeed – or fail! McGregor Boyall had the very opposite of this ‘revolving door system’ by being much more focussed on developing your skills.”

“For me, McGregor Boyall offers the perfect mix - a friendly and collaborative working atmosphere coupled with a focused business

environment that offers dedicated consultants the opportunity to develop their skills and succeed in their career.”

(10)

Chirag Raichura - Associate Director, Finance

When Chirag joined McGregor Boyall in 2009 his remit was to join our Risk & Compliance team with the view to setting up and managing a brand new desk focusing on Product Control. Whilst this role provided him with the autonomy that he sought, it also gave him the opportunity to join an established company which offered him support and enabled him to leverage off an established client base.

The culture at McGregor Boyall was attractive to Chirag; rather than being heavily KPI driven, the focus was on a consultative approach, with less emphasis on aggressive sales techniques. He found this to be a much more positive environment to work in – whilst there is a focus on results, he was encouraged to develop his own style in order to achieve his targets. For Chirag this meant engaging directly with clients and developing strong personal relationships, not just relying on portal based roles.

Twelve months into his role, Chirag was given his first opportunity to coach and mentor direct reports. Over the last 5 years he has worked hard to achieve his current position of Associate Director and has grown the desk to compete with much larger competitors in his industry. He feels that he has been able to achieve this as he was given the space, time, encouragement and responsibility to develop the desk in a way that he saw as most beneficial to the company.

Marta Gronowska - Principal Consultant, Business Intelligence

Marta joined McGregor Boyall in 2013 to establish a Business Intelligence presence across Financial

Services and Commerce & Industry. Prior to joining Marta knew of the company’s strong brand and market reputation and felt that it was the sort of organisation that would suit her abilities and personality. When Marta joined McGregor Boyall she had just returned from maternity leave so one of the other major selling points for her was the work-life balance that McGregor Boyall offered.

She loves having the freedom to run her own desk and manage her time without being heavily micro-managed, whilst still having the support of the management team. She feels that her opinion is valued and that she can truly affect how her desk grows. She believes that she has become more self-motivated as a result of having the responsibility and freedom to determine her own success. Working at McGregor Boyall has given her a rewarding environment in which to flourish, she feels that there is trust placed in her and she not only wants to achieve her personal goals but also wants to ensure that she creates a successful Business Intelligence offering for the business.

“McGregor Boyall allows good Consultants to express themselves with their own style of recruiting. There is a strong emphasis on organic growth

within the organisation and the continuous development of staff. The entrepreneurial culture offers Consultants the opportunity to build their

own business and work alongside like-minded driven individuals.”

“By promoting a hardworking culture and a ‘can do’ attitude, mixed with a good work-life balance, McGregor Boyall offers something different within the recruitment industry. With the help and full support of management,

as well as the organisations’ prompt responses to external market conditions, McGregor Boyall provides the perfect foundation to succeed
