welcome
call to worship
God is with us always and calls us each by name.
When we pass through difficulties and stress,
God is with us and calls us by name.
When we are discouraged and feel lost and alone,
God is with us and calls us by name, and heals us.
Blessed be God who knows us and calls us by name. Amen.
opening hymn
Baptized in WaterBaptized in water, sealed by the spirit, cleansed by the blood of Christ, our King; heirs of salvation, trusting his promise, faithfully now God's praises we sing. Baptized in water, sealed by the Spirit, dead in the tomb with Christ our King; one with his rising, freed and forgiven, thankfully now God's praises we sing. Baptized in water, sealed by the Spirit, marked with the sign of Christ our King; born of one Father, we are his children, joyfully now God's praises we sing.
opening prayer
God who watches over us, offering us light and hope, be with us this day as we hear the story
of Jesus’ baptism. In the waters of baptism, you have transformed us, marking us as your
children, and recreating us through the work of your Son and the power of the Holy Spirit. You have called us by name, knowing each of us, and loving us. Remind us again of the many ways in which you reach out to us. May the image of the waters be for us an image of hope. Shower us once more with your grace that we might be renewed in your spirit, through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

affirmation of faith
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he
ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic
church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Mark 1:4-11 | Common English Bible
John the Baptist was in the wilderness calling for people to be baptized to show that they were changing their hearts and lives and wanted God to forgive their sins. Everyone in Judea and all the people of Jerusalem went out to the Jordan River and were being baptized by John as they confessed their sins. John wore clothes made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey. He announced, “One stronger than I am is coming after me. I’m not even worthy to bend over and loosen the strap of his sandals. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
About that time, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and John baptized him in the Jordan
River. While he was coming up out of the water, Jesus saw heaven splitting open and the Spirit, like a dove, coming down on him. And there was a voice from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I dearly love; in you I find happiness.”
The Word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

the lord’s
prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever. Amen
