User Access Overview

Instructions for Single Sign On access will be given by ESUCC

The ADVISER Dashboards application provides different levels of user

access to comply with FERPA

User access roles and any changes should align with district data

policies

User access is determined by a person’s district position title as defined

in the district SIS

No mechanism to set roles on person-specific basis

“Specialists” are defined as staff who are responsible for

specific groups or “cohorts” of students and should only see

those students

Teachers are “Specialists” and only see their students as

determined by their class section assignments

Class sections are uploaded directly from the district SIS

It is recommended that Data Stewards review the list of

The admin tool in the ADVISER Dashboards application uses the district

position titles from the district SIS to link to the ADVISER Dashboards

roles or ‘claim sets’

Position Title: List of current position titles from district SIS

Claim Set: ADVISER Dashboards user access “claim” or setting

There are 9 different ClaimSet roles available

Editing a Single Position Title: Allows the user to change Dashboards

user access settings for one position title at a time

Batch Editing and Reviewing Settings for Multiple Position Titles:

Allows the user to change Dashboards user access settings for multiple

position titles at once

Claims-Based Authentication

Claims-based authentication is the process of

authenticating a user based on a set of claims about the

user’s identity contained in a trusted token

Basic set of roles or ‘claims’ correspond to varying levels

of access

Access will differ based on where assigned (school vs.

Specialist User may view only those students that are associated to their staff ID. District/ School specialist: User may view only those students in the district of a specific school in a capacity other than teacher (as determined by student rosters, e.g. counselor). Teacher: User may view only those students across the specific school(s) that are associated with user as a teacher (students assigned to the teacher’s class sections). Teacher cannot see any information regarding the student’s free or reduced priced meal status. Teacher can see a school level view but student lists are limited to those assigned to teacher’s sections.

1.

Select ‘Single Edit’ button

2.

Select Position Title drop down and select the desired district title

3.

Once the district title is selected, the ClaimSet dropdown will appear

4.

Select the desired access setting

5.

Click Save

Wait at least 10 minutes, then test by impersonating user

export a current list of district
