What Is Around Us?

What are the important landmarks near our school?

We are going to draw a sketch map of

the local area.

(35)

What Can I See?

Include these things on your sketch maps:

A title.

Labels and

annotations where needed.

Simple lines.

A note to say that it is not

to scale.

A North arrow.

Enough detail to give a rough idea (not every house and

tree).

(36)

Topic

You need to go for a short walk in your local area, picking out the key features.

As you are walking draw a rough sketch of the area.

When you get back redraw the sketch map making it neater and adding in the extra details such as a north arrow, smaller details and a key.

Keep it simple and don’t try to sketch a huge area.
