I have this prayer card that says, “Keep me aware, Lord, of the difference between using you for my own plan and follow- ing yours. Help me to remember that reforming my life means letting you take charge of it.” As I was preparing the music

for our parishes, it reminded me of this prayer. It struck me when I was reviewing the music of “Ready the Way of the Lord”. The lyrics to this song as well as the Gospel mention making straight paths. Our paths are crooked sometimes and

equivalent to a windy road. This song helps guide us back so that our voices and actions are in harmony with what God wants for us. Let us continue to straighten that path and examine our lives during this Advent Season!

The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal invites you and your family to be a part of our an- nual tree lighting event on the Shrine grounds. The Vincentian Marian Youth Mass will be at 4:30 p.m. fol- lowed by the tree lighting at 6:00 p.m. A tree near the Shrine Church will be decorated with lights for the Advent and Christmas seasons. This is also an opportunity to help those in need during the Christmas sea- son. We ask visitors coming to this event to bring at least one non-perishable item that will help the Ladies of Charity Food Pantry attend to the needs of others in our community. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available as you enjoy the Christmas decorations on the grounds. Please share this opportunity with family and friends to come together as a community to celebrate Advent and Christmas seasons.

If you have questions, please contact us at 1-800-264-6279, email us at [email protected], or visit the Association of the Miraculous Medal Facebook page.

Here at the Shrine, a tree will be decorat- ed with prayer petitions from local students. There will be live music both nights. Light refreshments will be served in the Visitor Center, where unique Nativity sets will be on display.
